Well this "Rement T." is clearly mistaken!!! HE DOESN'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT THIS SCHOOL!!!…read moreHe must have lied because this school has some of the best teachers around. They care about their students and are willing to help them after school if necessary. Some students actually LIKE their teachers and not because the teachers don't give them homework or what not but because the students and teachers could become friends and like what they learn cause the teachers make it relate to their own lives. The principle is very strict and awsome principle. Also the engineers do, do something!! when the AC would break down they work hard on getting it back up. Plus It's not that the principle is too cheap to change the AC but it's that it would cost a lot of money that might not be in the budget. Rement T.'s comment about the black teachers are simply racist. They actually DESERVED the job. Every student that has graduated from this school always comes back to visit their old teachers. They work hard to get us to be the best we can and taught us well enough to be ready for highschool. Also how dare he talks about park district at Haines like that. The workers there are extraordinary. They help the kids with their homework and play with them. Ms. Precious Morgan DOES work, she is like all the other workers at Park District. She would helps kids with their homework and play with them. She does not "dissapear"when there are trips. This person shouldn't be talking about this school or Precious Morgan like that when he knows so little about it. I doubt he actually worked there since i haven't even seen him there before.

The FXW community seems wonderful, but I wouldn't recommend sending your child here. Our 4-year-old…read moreattended for a year, and he was fairly miserable here despite being extremely happy at the school he attended before. It was difficult to reach FXW staff to voice this concern (his teachers were basically unresponsive over email), and the staff I was finally able to reach were sometimes deflective, saying things like "COVID was hard on these kids." At this point, I'm ashamed to admit FXW had me convinced they were largely innocent, and FXW recommended a therapist for our son. After ONLY ONE appointment with the FXW-recommended therapist, we were told our son did not even need therapy, and furthermore, that therapy had been recommended to something like half of his FXW class. A second independent therapist agreed, and even went so far as to say (1) she would not send her child to FXW even if it were free, and (2) we should transfer our child to a different classroom as there had been "other issues" with that room. We spoke to FXW and kindly requested a transfer to a different class, but they refused. At this point we notified them that we were going to pull our child from the school entirely and asked for a refund of our $10k deposit. They also refused. In short, FXW is filled with wonderful families, but you should avoid. It's pretty damning when even the FXW-recommended therapist says the school has issues, and it's impossible to think they're putting students first when they wouldn't even accept the recommendation of their own therapist to move our child. I'm also astonished they would not give us our money back. The $10k we lost won't destroy our family, but I shudder to think of less fortunate families that, in this situation, would have to choose between financial hardship and keeping their children in a clearly problematic setting.

I was a frightened and confused 5 year old and I spoke no English. My Healy school kindergarten teacher, Ms. Martinez, not only committed to giving me the foundation of an American standard kindergarten education, but also committed to helping me learn English in order for me not only to "get by", but to advance beyond expectations. I spoke Portuguese, she spoke Spanish, and together we bridged the two to lead me toward the English language. I was 5 years old, but I remember so much of my time in her classroom because she was so invested in my success. I have thought about her and her incredible impact on my life throughout the years. I wish I could thank her now, as a 38 year old college graduate, for all the care, patience, and investment she exhibited to a scared 5 year old fish-out-of-water little girl. I was very much taken under her wing. I am currently a registered nurse finishing a graduate program to become a Nurse Practitioner in May 2020. I have had many teachers over the last 33 years, but Ms. Martinez was my first and the most influential. This care and gentle guidance formed me into the successful woman I am today, and this public elementary school on the south side of Chicago should be proud of this teacher and all like her.

Physical activity is highly prioritized here but couldn't care less about things like Cheerleading. Academics are okay but the way teachers speak to students is highly inappropriate and higher ups need to speak with volunteers and others on how they can speak to kids. Me and my friends were sitting quietly at recess when this monitor tells us to move down just so they can go and sit in that spot to talk about kids. When she moves us she made only 2 of us sit in a row when there was 3 and when I said we are all together she said just sit down. The teachers also need to discipline students better or less. Other kids pick on students in a jokingly manner that greatly affects them and when the teachers ignore it, it hurts

Think long and hard if you want your child to attend this school. On the surface, it all appears great. However, its a for profit school and its all about money. If you have lots of money, your child will be treated great. If you don't, well not so much. Most concerning is that there is a fair amount of bullying in the school on various levels: bullying between peers but also there are numerous instances of teachers bullying students. Strategically, they have been trying to build up their high school for a long time. It has not been a very successful effort and now they have resorted to manipulating grades (artificially deflating grades) to ensure children cannot easily transfer. NOTE: School's grading system is not easy to understand and its not consistent across classes or teachers independent of student's actual knowledge. If you have other viable option, don't give a second thought to this school. Run away!!!

Rehak (Chemistry-- not related to the English teacher), and finally Mr. Bruner (Art class & Art Club), who is no longer there, but who has changed my life forever. I think we all have a teacher that really touched us. Who knew that from freshman art, I'd be going to art school instead of journalism school like I first imagined for college. It was all because of Mr. Bruner. He got me my first job working for the city painting a mural, and I've been doing art ever since. So even though I am more in the fashion thing right now, hats are very artistic and sculptural. This is not your typical high school. Academics are very valued here. There are no cliches, at least there really weren't when I went there. I got along with everyone. I was really into art and writing, so I did that, and I had outlets for that through the after-school clubs. The minus was that the kids here were way too focused on learning and partying was sometimes out of the question with some people. Luckily, I had a group of friends from grade school that I let loose with. When you're doing Honors and AP classes, you need to balance that with a healthy dose of partying.

They tell me they like their teacher and enjoy going to class. They are taught current technology, multiple languages, and even gym time, which is something we didn't have back in the day. Results matter, and seeing some many of my younger friend's children going on to high school then college after attending St. Therese tells me a lot about the present day school's teaching!

We, rich, privileged, private school students went to a poor, black, public Englewood school to learn about how the school operated and meet the kids. had lunch and then we left and never talked to the school again. how was this a learning experience? so gross and so tone deaf. stellar programs by the school.
