OK, this bakery rocks! If you are going to or passing through lady smith, this place is worth a stop. We were walking and saw a huge line so we continued walking, and then came back and the line was still long! We wanted to get some pasties and coffee so waited patiently (about 10-12 mins) in line. They have such a huge collection of pies, tarts, sausage rolls, croissants, cookies, breads and cinnamon rolls, etc. We couldn't decide what to get and don't want to go crazy as we had bought pasties earlier on from elsewhere, so bought two different cinnamon buns and a latte. The poppy seed and cream cheese cinnamon buns were incredible! Latte was delicious! Haven tried the rhubarb and strawberry cinnamon bun yet but looking forward to it tomorrow! There are limited tables and seats inside but it's crowded. The staff are friendly and the regular locals are amazing! We had a chat with the lovely folks in the line and they were recommending what they love, which was pretty special! I'm giving five stars because they deserve it - their food, drinks and hospitality. read more

What an amazing bakery loved watching them make the cakes thru the window. I had to try the Cornish pastry pie and the crack bar both were out of this world. The other people in our group bought the almond cinnamon bun I believe they had five other kinds of cinnamon buns. It tells you on the website. Somebody also ordered the plain and chocolate covered coconut macaroons. The line was out the door, but it went really fast. We ate inside and brought another chair to sit our group of four. Man oh man, we stumbled upon this place during our walk of the downtown area, and it is something special! My wife and I split a ham & cheese sandwich and I had some mocha bar while my wife has a blueberry muffin (they messed up in that she had ordered an orange cranberry flavor, but she enjoyed what she got). This place was busy all during the lunch hours, with a line out the door constantly. They have HUMUNGOUS cinnamon rolls, most with a wide assortment of frosting, and the bread loaves looked incredible. Day 6 -Ladysmith I woke up today planning to install a dimmer switch for the dinning room light. So far, I've done everything right. (Which is unusual for me but as some of you will be surprised to know, I did take, and pass, Electricity in High School.) Hallelujah! The Home Hardware store had the required part and I'm hoping that the installation will be problem-free. (High unlikely but we can hope.) On my way home I stopped at a little bakery shop on the main drag in Ladysmith. Numerous people have given a five star rating on their cinnamon buns and, well, I had to see for myself. I was blown away by the breadth and depth of their product offering.! And there was a line up! After careful consideration, I selected three of the six varieties of cinnamon buns they offered - Raisin Spice, Cream Cheese and Cranberry Orange. They were, so you know, bargain priced at $4.25 each. Zowie! Well...you can tell from the pictures that I have devoured the Cranberry Orange bun. OMG -it was delicious!. One does need, however, plenty of napkins and a washing station to clean up both during and after the gourmet experience. It was, without question, the best cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dimmer switch will have to wait. It's 10:15 AM and I'm ready for a nap. read more

On our way up-island, my coworker said that we NEEDED to stop by Ladysmith to come to this bakery alone. Her friends are obsessed with the cinnamon buns here so we got some to bring them back after our trip. When we went in, walking through the line made me want to get at least 6 different baked goods but in the end, I contained myself and just got a salmon roll and a miniature cheesecake cup. Although the classic raspberry one looked fantastic, I ended up going for the maple pecan because well... yum! I was actually extremely shocked by the level of detail and delicacy of the little cup. The base was very crumbly and real, which I didn't fully expect... because I've had quite a few sub-par cheesecakes in my time. I would 100% get this again as a little treat or even get a larger one from them for an event. The salmon roll was DELICIOUS as well. The crust was buttery, flaky, and had a good assortment of herbs on it, and the salmon inside was exactly how I wanted it. Awesome little snack! I didn't try the cinnamon buns but I DID take pictures because they just looked unREAL. The iced cinnamon bun I had today took me back to childhood. It was so familiar. So delicious. The best cinnamon bun I've had in over 20 years. So why 3 stars? The place was dirty. This bakery and cafe was a local favorite and lived up to the charm of the town. When you pass by the front window you will see various bakery tools hanging on display. I entered the bakery and surveyed the space. Long tables and bench seats were to my left and the pastry display was in front of me. Beautiful cast iron lighting fixtures hung from the ceiling and the smell if fresh baked bread and cinnamon waffed past. I got in line for a coffee and felt pulled by the display of cookies, pastries and obviously their pride a variety of large cinnamon buns. Some we're classics like raisins and cream cheese icing. But there were other creative ones on display; peanut butter cream cheese icing, blueberry bun with cream cheese icing pumpkin and so on. I did not try one because they were not vegan. However, I watched as happy customers walked out with their box of them or sat at a table eager to dig in. I ordered a black coffee and waited for my blind "date" with a friend of a friend. Stopped on a Saturday morning......mistake, lineup was out the front door. We have enjoyed our morning muffin here in the past, but were disappointed with our items when we finally got to the head of the line. Muffins and danish were dry and somewhat tasteless. I was very delighted to find this little gem during our visit to Ladysmith. On a sunny day you can sit outside like we did or if you are lucky you can get a seat inside as this is such a popular little place. The entire time we sat enjoying our meal there were others lining up to get their own slice of paradise. We partook in a selection of salads, spinach pie, baked macaroni, sandwiches, cookies, and challah bread. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations. I particularly liked the lime meringues so full of flavour and the house salad which was garnished with cranberries and candied pecans. As it sometimes happens, we didn't save enough space to try one of their famous cinnamon buns. The selection of which is extensive. The day we were there they offered flavours such as peanut butter cream cheese, orange, blueberry, chocolate pecan and classic cinnamon raisin.
