Even running a bit behind, which if you know, you know that's not abnormal. Didn't affect me because I plan ahead. But when I say I got the best haircut yesterday, I am not lying. Best fade I e ever got and I've always wanted a hard part but my previous barbers didn't know what that really meant. I love my cut. So I initially gave this place 5 stars a little over a year ago when I started going here. I'm not a year round local, I come here seasonally to work at the state parks and then I leave. I've been to a few barbers and none of them in Newport at that time could do a zero fade. I read that these barbers did, I read great reviews about Anthony, but he was booked so I went with Daniel. The first time he cut my hair he did a great job, was friendly enough too, so I continued to see him. I started bringing my partner too. We usually get a similar haircut/fade. The first couple of times we went to see Daniel he did a good job on both of us, then the time came that I wanted a shorter cut on top, I had to go home and fix it myself. I've gone to barbering school, I can do fades, my hands hurt from carpal tunnel now, so I prefer not to. I brushed it off, we all have our off days. Then in February this year, I got sick, so I scheduled an apt for only my partner in the evening time with Daniel, I stayed home. When he showed up, Daniel was very obviously buzzed, if not drunk. He was louder, and chattier than he'd ever been with my partner. Even more obvious is how Daniel clearly doesn't know his audience, because he starts going off about gender. Starts mouthing off and saying "I'm gonna call you what you look like, if you look like a dude, I'm gonna call you a dude, if you look like a girl I'll call you she. When people are rude to me about it and correct me, I just go out of my way to do it more to get a rise out of them." BIG YIKES. Hey Daniel, if you're reading this, did you know that both my partner AND I are trans men? At one point we were in that awkward position of claiming our identities and correcting people before we "passed" was hard and terrifying at times. It disgusts me that in a world where kindness costs you nothing while still being such a gift to the person you're kind to, that you choose to taunt people who just want to feel some kind of validation. It's not hard to just say my bad and correct yourself. So that was cringeworthy. The fact that my partner and I are recovered alcoholics also made us so uncomfortable knowing how drunk the guy was while cutting my partners hair. So we started going in the morning which seemed to be better because he was eager to just get the cut finished and get us out of there, vs having drunk beer with his clients all day. He will never remember your name. He takes twice as long to cut hair as Anthony does, and his fades are always high. Even if you ask him for a low fade, the best you'll get is a high-mid fade. This last haircut he did for us was the last straw for me. We're leaving for the summer to work at a National park so I wanted to cut my hair short. Mistake. I asked Daniel, please do my fade as low as possible, even lower than you have been doing. He faded it higher than our normal haircuts. Then goes on to cut my hair completely dry. Does a terrible job. Asks me how it looks, I had to point out 4 times, "dude there's corners here, it's longer here, I don't want a fringe, can you like blend it better?" ffs. I finally gave up and said it looks fine. I went home and took an 8 guard to my head and fixed what he fucked up. I'm so glad I didn't ask him to trim my beard, it's taken me a year to grow it out, if I would've let him trim it, I would've gone home and shaved it off too no doubt. He also fucked up my partners hair on this last cut. My partner likes faded undercuts. The more dramatic line/ shelf on the fade. They'd done a cut the haircut previous when his hair was shorter to kind of precursor so that they could do the cut he wanted next time he came in. Then when my partner shows him the picture he showed Daniel last time, to remind him what cut he wanted, Daniel says okay, cuts his hair into a normal fade, turns him around and says, "what I didn't like about that cut was the dramatic shelf, so I didn't do that." My partner was like, "dude that's literally what I told you I like about the haircut." Plus he totally fucked the back of my partners hair up, and left him long fringe bangs. I had to come home and blend his hair for him, to fix it. Like are you fucking kidding me? If I owned the barbershop I wouldn't have that guy working there. Anthony gives great cuts and fades, he's a quiet guy, he does fart jokes instead of popping off about social issues and gender, and does cuts and fades quickly. I've watched them. If you want to schedule here, it's worth waiting for Anthony, he's usually booked for a reason. But if you need a same day cut kind of thing, I'd go somewhere else. Daniel sucks. We won't be back ever again. read more

We came here to get haircuts for my husband and my 3 year old son. Anthony is super friendly and he does a great job. He's thorough and listens to what you want. He's great with my kids and even gave my son a fake mustache for fun. He used a straight razor on the back of my husband's neck and gave my husband a neck massage, both things that have been skipped everywhere else we've gone. The prices are reasonable. My boys are looking sharp and we are very happy. read more
