She had resided here with her mother and grandparents along with her brother Fred. The area is known as Celoron and not far from that home is the Lucille Ball memorial park. Lucy used to work at that park when it was a small amusement park by the lake. The house is painted in a bright blue but what stands out is the polka dot garage door and the lopsided barbecue in the back. The barbecue was probably inspired from one of the last "I love Lucy" episodes. Note-the residence is a private dwelling and people live here. For this reason, you are asked to be respectul of the property. More information can be found on their website which also happens to be attached to the front entry door. Located on the banks of the Allegheny River at the corner of Hickory and Pennsylvania Avenue and complimented by a music park offering outdoor concerts it offers a taste of history and culture as well as local flavor. From the park one can see the Four Flags, being the American, the flag of the Seneca Nation, the French fleur de lis and the British Union Jack representing each of the governing bodies that now or previously claimed the area as its own. Soldiers and Sailors is indeed a magnificent little piece of green space park for a city to have.

A very unique and curious phenomenon. We came Labor Day weekend and just about all of the ice had…read moredissipated, but they allowed us in to see and explain several theories they have for why and how this ecological mystery occurs. Some environmental experts have even visited her to try and discover why ice forms in this cave and only during the warmer weather. Still no one can quite explain exactly why ice forms sometimes several feet out of the cave. This oddity of nature struck my interest when we were planning a Sunday drive upstate and even though I knew the ice was melting I still had to visit. As a cave and cavern junkie I hoped that despite the ice being almost gone we would at least still have a tour of the actual cave. However that is not an option. The "tour" is really only admission to a room that houses the top opening of the cave allowing you to view down inside to where the ice grows up and rises out. Nonetheless I am glad I had the opportunity to see it and may travel back in early spring to see it in her full glory. The mine is closed now (early September) and will reopen seasonally in spring.

The ground level contained a gift shop, several rooms with antique furniture, and a room that contained a timeline of Jamestown and Chautauqua county history as well as locally made items. Some of the exhibits upstairs included a furniture room, an upside down Christmas tree, a toy room, observation tower, Lucille Ball photographs, and more. Some of the exhibits on the lower level (basement) included an old kitchen, Swedish Roo, Underground Railroad information, and farming tools. There were docents spread throughout the museum, and QR codes to watch videos on the items in each room. Overall worth the visit!

This is an absolutely stunning hidden treasure within the Allegheny Forest. This section is located…read more southwest of Warren and is hiding a fabulous grove of old growth trees, including white pine and hemlock. Ironically, signage indicates that this area survived because it was owned by a higher-up in a lumber company who wanted to live among the trees. Thankfully, it was donated intact to the US Forest Service, who has been taking care of it since. There is a one mile interpretive trail that leads you through the forest and lets you explore the amazing ecosystem that has developed. There were a number of fascinating little orange lizards all over, fungus, various seeds and nuts from the myriad of mature trees in the forest, and more. The area is rightfully a registered national landmark. There is a gravel parking lot that leads you to a nice picnic area with a shelter, picnic tables, and some basic latrines, plus access to the trailhead. The hike is fairly easy, which is great since I spent so much time looking up. It really is amazing to be among 300-400 year old trees!

The gift shop is delightfully eclectic, with a great selection of rocks, crystals, and local souvenirs. It's the kind of place where you'll definitely find something unexpected.
