I used to live right around here (in East Buffalo, but minutes from Cheektowaga), so I had my share of run-ins. But one instance was worse than all the others. We were treated like the most wanted criminals just because of expired stickers that my gf forgot all about. So, the Cheektowaga police pulled me and my girlfriend over, and she was a few days past her inspection sticker, or was it registration - I forget. You would expect that she'd get a ticket, right? She didn't. The car was towed. I had to walk home. She was put in jail. She was bailed out by her brother hours later because I didn't have the money to bail her out.. It cost her a massive amount of money. She had to get the car out of the impound. She is a bill-paying tax-paying good girl who occasionally forgets to pay x or y, and then remembers when they remind her. She isn't very good at staying on top of things, so to speak ;) What I'm saying is, that's what the Cheektowaga Police are spending your money on. And that's what they do to make money. This was a few years ago, perhaps things are better now? I wouldn't bet on it. Ugly way of doing things. No wonder a lot of people don't like them. I've had many great experiences with the Buffalo PD. Amherst PD not so much. Clarence PD absolutely not. UB PD the absolute worst... but Cheektowaga, not too far off. One star.

Its a new building (largely paid for by parking/speeding tickets no doubt) on Union, with a fabulous parking situation. The Court and Police are in the same driveway, but the signs indicated the police may be in a different building, I'm not sure. we were there for the court. You walk into the building and there is a (no joke) armed guard, and a scanner for your purse, briefcase whatever and you walk through a metal detector. Seriously? Little high tech for a small court house? Nevermind paranoid? Just sayin'. * Here's where the three stars comes in * But, while you are emptying pockets and putting purses into the scanner, someone else just walks right through, scanner goes off, and the guard does nothing. Now I get he may know the guy, but why on earth would he just let him walk through in front of a short line of people, set off the scanner and not blink? I assume it was an attorney (it was not a policeman in uniform), and I assume he was not carrying a gun, perhaps only his keys, but I don't really care how much you go in and out in a day, you should set an example to the rest by doing it the right way. You are after-all, an officer of the court. If this man was not some sort of officer of the court then I really don't know what to say. If you are going to bother with the time, expense and hassle of the system, then at least make it consistent and frankly, "SAFE FOR ALL". But once inside, this would go back to 4 stars, the lines were very short, they were fast and the people behind the bullet proof glass were pleasant enough. No issues there, they also provide a receipt without prompting etc. Leaving was much easier than going in, there is a different door to exit through. Overall I admire the police and law enforcement in general, I understand gun laws and generally support these types of organizations, in thought and pocketbook. But this experience really left me uncomfortable, I would not want to sit jury in a courthouse where not everyone got the same level of scrutiny as I did.

Not quite sure why we had to spend so much money in another building or move, but if that's all it took to ramp up the quality of people working there - money and time well spent. Maybe it's even cheaper to be at this new place, but whatever the reason - a first wise choice for sure. The person I spoke with was kind and professional, but also had that right amount of friendliness that makes your trip memorable for the right reasons. I was taken care of with speed and left feeling like I actually accomplished what I had set out to do. No standing in three different lines, no angry sour faces staring me down - NICE JOB!

Our tour group only had 4 people total and took us about an hour and 20 mins to go through both floors of the house, and view the grounds. We really enjoyed everything, especially our knowledgeable tour guide and friendly gift shop attendant, Hannah! We'd love to come back again for a special event once the new visitor center opens in February.

Not to be confused with New Fort Eerie, which is more, well, creepy and, well, eerie…read more I have haunted and distant memories of Old Fort Erie from a very long time ago when my family came to visit me in freezing wintry Buffalo for Christmas. The memories are beautiful and magical and distant. I miss those days. I miss my brother and I'm not sure what happened to him, but certainly things will never be the same again. That's just life - that's how it goes. Years later I played a lot of outdoor soccer games here and they went pretty well. I enjoyed being here and I think it makes a good soccer field and a good place to visit, and often very secluded with not too many people around here. Even though it's not that far from Niagara Falls, it has solid memories and I don't mean by D but that's solid too. So I like it on a great many levels and I'll probably keep coming here in the future, I would imagine.

The small yet interesting building had lots of information on Roosevelt. A small talk/tour was in session when I entered. The docent relayed information to the visitors. The gift shop had many Roosevelt related gifts. No charge to enter. Street parking available.

I try to fill my trips out of town with some history and educational stuff of places I have never…read morebeen to or even heard of. When I finally decided to where I would be going I started to look around and see what was catch my interest. This fit the bill. What drew me in was that it had to do with one of our Presidents, fairly cheap on the pocketbook ($12), and easy parking (free and onsite). You can enter the lot from the front or from behind, I suggest from behind as it is easier to access the lot and you won't have to deal with the drive up ATM from the bank. You enter from the back of the building as well, whether you walk up from the street or park in the lot. Try to check the site before showing up and see if the tour times are listed. There is not entry into the space unless you are on a tour. I know, kind of weird, and a bit annoying, but that is how they do it here and that is how you gain access, only on a tour. Pay attention to the tour. Depending on the volunteer (yes, they are volunteers) you have, it can go fast. They are full of information and will tell you more about the house than you can pick up from the informational displays throughout. Pictures area allowed and I suggest taking plenty of them. Sometimes when you go back to them you might catch something you missed when you were initially there. A little about the house, as the name of this establishment tells you, it was used for the inauguration of Theodore Roosevelt. One of only a handful of places outside of the Capitol that would host an event like this. An ordinary house that housed a family and occasional guests over the years ended up being a historic place that fell into shambles and became restored. After President McKinley was shot and ultimately was assassinated President Roosevelt took the oath of office in the library of the house. For a short time, this also served as the White House I suppose. Roosevelt meeting with his inherited Cabinet in the dining room. After the inauguration the house passed through the family and was sold. It became a restaurant up until the 70s and then sat unused and started to crumble. There was movement to tear this place down, but a group made sure to save it and now it is ran by the National Parks Services. They were able to restore the place to what it looked like at the time, only a few things in the house are original to the house. One of the bookcases in the library and one of the chandeliers in the house are told to you. Upstairs is a different set up. One room upstairs houses an exhibit on the history of the house. It goes through the timeline of it being a family home, to the restaurant, and the now historic landmark. Another room has a mock up of what Theodore Roosevelt's Presidential Office would have looked like. You can "play" in here. You can sit at the desk and pretend to be President for a day. If you are looking for something to do in the Buffalo area to kill time or just to enjoy your day, stop by here. You will not regret it and you will learn something new.
