Then went to the self serve beverage station,it was a huge mess, sugar spilled everywhere, there was no teabags, no cream, just hot water and the coffee machine was also empty, the employees were nearby but no one cared. I'm likely not the best person to review a casino but based on my, albeit limited knowledge, I don't find this casino enjoyable at all. We came here a couple of times this past week only because of a promotion we received in the mail (and then the follow-up promotion we received once there the first time). Sign up at the counter was quick and the customer service was great... of course it was. Please, tell me if I'm missing something but all I saw was a room full of slots... and not a very big room at that (compared to other casinos I've been to). The only other thing I saw was a restaurant/bar area. Is that all there is to this place? Of course, as with any casino, it was packed to the rafters and it always amazes me to see people straddled over two chairs with wads of 20's in their hands feeding, not one, but two machines a seemingly endless supply. I don't get it but maybe it's just my age... no wait, some of these people have a good 30 years on me! Wait a minute! Aren't you on a fixed income lady? The restaurant tonight was half empty and still the staff is claiming a 2+ hour wait at 9pm. We listened to an argument with another person who had already been waiting 90 minutes and he was told he would be waiting another 90 to 120 minutes. It's a brutal scam to get you there to gamble and the casino wants to frustrate you into not eating there. Save yourself time and frustration. Don't bother. read more

This if for the OLG Ajax Downs casino. I will just review the restaurant, as I could not spend much time gambling today (but will return for that). One odd thing about getting there - the nearest parking is a long walk. Could have been planned better. The restaurant is pleasant, with nice full-length windows to look out on the racetrack, a great view with a few horses exercising. The food is okay, though I can never understand why any chef thinks frozen French fries are acceptable to eat. Service, unfortunately, was worse than poor. Staff is apparently untrained, same as at other OLG casinos, where the attitude seems to be that if the food or most of it somehow gets to you and not too much of it is spilled or forgotten, and you don't mind eating your soup and cold main course at the same time, the customer should be satisfied. "I don't know" should be an acceptable answer to questions about the food, and "I'm new here" should excuse any other mistakes a waiter makes. In this case we ordered 2 soups and 2 main courses after struggling with the waitress's total lack of understanding of the menu. So we were both having the same thing. After a long, long time, one of the soups was delivered by a different waitress. When we asked about the other soup, she explained that she had seen the one soup sitting in the kitchen and knew it was for our table so brought it out. Never a thought that there were two of us. Then she chatted in a corner with other staff, forgetting us. After another long wait, the other soup arrived with the 2 main courses. I mean, give me a break. When asked to keep my companion's main course warm until he ate his soup, the plate disappeared until much later, when it came out cold. A similar experience to the Blue Heron restaurant - are they conspiring against us? This restaurant was an ordeal I do not want to repeat. Oh how much I hate this casino. And I loves me some casinos! The entrance is beautiful and it's nicely located out of the main part of town. Parking can be an issue but they have a shuttle that goes around the parking lot for those rainy days that you can't be bothered to walk to the doors. But when you get INTO the casino, its a huge let down. The place is packed with machines and even after the expanded it, it's still far too crowded. It's hard to get onto a machine at just about any time of the day or night (we've gone during the middle of the day during the week and during the middle of the night on weekends, its always the same) and the machines are so closely packed together that its hard to move between them to make your way through the casino. I don't know who's bright idea it was to pick machines, but whoever did it at this location picked far too many high roller machines. $5 a spin? I think not. There's an entire area of the casino that sits empty because everyone wants to pay penny, nickle, dime and quarter slots (and this high roller area is a sizable area too). The complimentary drinks are nice but I do find that the staff stare you down. This could be because I'm 26 and look like I'm 19 but still... I'm inside, clearly I'm legal so leave me alone to gamble. The bathrooms are gorgeous as well, but it really doesn't make up for repeated lacklustre gambling experiences. I'll spend the extra money and time heading up to the Blue Heron for better machine selection and more room to move around. I came in on a weekday night. Was seated right away & had a drink in my hand within 5 mins. Ordered breakfast & it came in about 15 mins fresh & hot. I don't know about the negative reviews about the service but these servers were happy, pleasant & trying to make the meal a pleasurable experience. I would definately eat here again. read more

This is not really a Casino, just a large venue with slot machines. It is a very pleasant modern building, with an attractive layout and restaurant. It is extremely crowded on weekends but very accessible on weekdays. There is a nice array of slot machines for a wide range of 'budgets'. There are complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, and the service is very good. I have often read negative reviews of Casinos based on the reviewer having lost a bit of money. That is not and should not be the standard. This, overall is a pleasant environment, with a bunch of nice players (with a few exceptions), and really accessible from Toronto. They are a bit skimpy on comps (it is the OLG), and players can only guess at the payback percentages of the slot machines. Ontario and the OLG are one of the few casino operators in North America that do not 'tout' what the payback is on slots. read more

Went to Ajax Casino last night and while playing on a slot Machine. I had received some bonus spins and one of the spins landed on the grand prize just over $30,000 grand and the Machine shut down and restarted. Everyone that was around me was in disbelief, i looked around for a Worker to show them, i pressed the Service button and still no one came. About 5 mins later my machine came back on and re-spin without me pressing it. Then it stopped at $150. Then i was angry still no one showed up. I had to walk the whole Casino i found a person is the pink shirt they came over but called someone else. This guy shows up in black and white said he was the supervisor and asked me to explain so i did. He told me that it landed on the $150 and that's what i was awarded. I said no the slot landed first on the jackpot grand then shut down. I told him to go look at the Cameras above the machine. He said that machine has done this before. So i asked him the same Question at least 10 times. I said do all 4 of these same machines do the same thing and he would not answer. He just pointed at the one machine and loudly said this machine has done this before. Maybe he was trying to hint to me that the machine i was on wasn't working correctly... Hello , I have been going to Ajaxs Slots for over 5 years. I am disgusted with the service .. What Service ? I was there 2 nights ago and last week as well the coffee area was so dirty also the out side were we smoke cigarette butts every were even in coffee mugs . Also The games are nothing like it use to be. I go there to have fun not a bad habit. I will tell you that I would be embarrassed to bring any one there as I use to bring family and friends from out of town , I will be taking this to higher then just Ajaxs slots. The parking makes it for a long walk to park. It is fine if you like walking though. The slot area is small. I've never seen any helpful staff around yet and I have been there numerous times. Just like any other slot place, the machines don't pay out anything anymore. read more

When Ajax Downs opened the restaurant was the best of all the OLG restaurants. We recently went for dinner (On our own money) and they had a chinese buffet. It looked rather good and decided to try it. The food was absolutely cold. We advised the waisted but all we got was a shrug of the shoulder and said she would tell the chef. There was not further comment from anyone but we got the bill in full. We should have known something was wrong because there was no one else at the buffet!!!! read more

Keep in mind: 1. Life is 99.9999% luck. The other HALF is a good grasp of mathematics. 2. The only room they'll comp here is the bathroom. However, the bathrooms are nice and modern given the upgrade of a couple of years ago. 3. To enjoy yourself, come here with an open wallet and an open mind (no judgement of the muttering losers who are walking out the door as you're walking in or of the zombie-like trance of the players). 4. I know my limit. I'm usually stepping in it. A small racino with a decent selection of slots (I would personally prefer more penny slots), no table games, a large parking lot with an operating shuttle, a friendly customer service desk and several self-serve complimentary non-alcoholic beverage stations. Around 800 slots (compared to the 2800 or so at Woodbine) so can be busy and packed during certain times of the year especially holidays when everything else is closed. Mainly a local's venue. Ontario has an 85% minimum payback so expect most machines to be set at 85%. The occasional or irregular player won't be able to tell the difference between a 92% payback and an 85% payback over a single visit. Hardcore players are better off going to Vegas or Atlantic City for the higher payback, more selection and the latest games. The regulars seem to be able to eventually sniff out which machines give the most play time (just my opinion) so keep this in mind if you plan on contributing to my child's public education. By the way, I thank you in advance. If you lose, you were probably unlucky during your visit. If you win, you were probably lucky during your visit. We were more than a little disturbed to find out that the dining room was closed for a private function when we arrived on New Years Eve. We went out of the house feeling that we would have a nice dinner and then gamble a little bit. The hot dogs (buns were absolutely stale) were cold and the bag of chips were stale as well. For this, we were charged $5.00 with no drink. Then you have the problem that there was no place to sit down to eat it. Other than the fact that the High Rollers spend more than a lot of others, was there not an area where these people could have had their private function? I know that a lot of people go into the Casino often although they don't spend the same kind of money because quite frankly, they are on a fixed income and can't spend what others do. Is this any reason to kick them to the curb and give them a hotdog? Perhaps, in the future, you could consider doing something different such as putting the private function downstairs or out in the yard. This whole thing was nothing short of disgusting. The OLG website is HORRIBLE. They will allow you to put money onto the site but when you want to take it out, they decline you! On top of that they took OVER a month to decline me, I even tried to call,they make you wait on the phone(over an hour wait), and there's no point to try and "Live Chat" because they are Always experienceing high wait times.(stupid).I don't recommend ANYONE to play on the website. read more

I came to eat here to celebrate my sister's graduation from high school. It took so long just to get a table. When we were lining up, we literally lined up just to get a buzzer to let us know that a table is available for us. My family and I sat down and waited for two hours just for a table. I enjoy going to Ajax Down from time to time. The food is okay and beverages are either to sweet or not sweet enough. I do like the experience and I do have some fun. Staff are nice! I don't believe that the casino pays out 85% of winnings because you can walk through the room and there aren't any bells going off!! How do we know that 85% is paid out anyway??!! Is this a line to reel us in and where are the statisic that show us that this is true?? Hmmmm, you have to wounder. There are many machines that people will not play. This should tell us something, like it doesn't pay out so don't play it!! If more people won then the word would definitely get around and ALL the machines would be in use. The casino would make even more money if ALL the machines were in use. They would be happy and so would we with nice payouts. Ajax down has many slot machines. My husband and I enjoy our time there. I usually leave my husband on a wheel chair at the entrance before I park the car. Very often I used the shuttle. It used to be a white mini van. The driver controls the door and there are many seats. But recently it has changed to a grey 9(?} seat van. I tried to close the door three times without success. If there were more than 4 passengers, I have to climb into the next row of seats. I like to give the driver some tip but his box is right next to him and I have to reach over to put the tip into his box. Is this because the corporation does not encourage such practice? The grey van is not easily noticeable. I have to double take to see if it is the shuttle. I do hope another kind of vehicle serves as the shuttle. We have been going to Ajax down for over two years. Food is good, but I don't know how the establishment can claim minimum 85% returned as winnings. You can walk around for two hours and not hear a bell ring or see a "hand pay" screen, meanwhile thousands of dollars have been shovelled into the slots.Doesn't add up. read more

First off walking to the security guard that's I'd-ing said "when were you born" I hadn't even placed my I'ds on the table. The following gov. IDs were used Ontario drivers license, Ontario health card and my Security license! I was still denied though I carry my birth certificate with me as well. She also made me sign a card and looked at my signature. until i left (i got a coke atthe bar and had to pay for it. security was literally fallowing me around all I wanted to see was the casino. I got annoyed and left will not be going back. The staff are friendly and very nice it's the security the space it's self is beautiful. I don't agree with one of the tips saying there's no parking I found a spot an many many others and its pretty cool to see they have a shuttle bus that will drive you to your car. The only reason I gave one star is because the servers were astonished at the way security was treating me and threaded me with respect again I say it security is horrible there as an adult that has worked in the security field for over 4 years there customer service skill need major major improvements. read more

I have a little story to tell about us 4 seniors who went to this Casino for dinner and some fun. 1 is a Nurse, 2 are PSW, and 1 is a Cost Engineer. 1 is a diabetic, 1 is a cancer survivor 1 has a weak heart, and 1 is hearing impaired. Upon arrival we intended to eat dinner right away and play some slots later, but were told that there was a wait of 45 min. and we were given a vibrating puck. We then went in to play some slots while we waited to be seated. During this time we all had 1 drink each. We were all having fun and as we were all hungry the 1 drink went to our heads a little. After waiting a long time (close to 2 hours) we were finally called for dinner. By now we are very hungry and the diabetic is in need of food soon ( he was already going into shock but did not realize it at the time. As we went up to be seated it was determined that we were all intoxicated and not only would we not be seated, but we were told to leave. ( please note that a common sign of insulin shock is slurred speech )This was extremely upsetting, embarrassing to us all, and at this point a danger to his health, as we then had to go find someplace to eat when most places were closed. There were a number of mistakes made by the staff, first intentionally lying to us about how long it would take to be seated for dinner. then mistaking ( having fun ) for being drunk. It seams that once a wrong decision has been made by staff there is no recourse. I am upset and disappointed in this casino for its poor judgment and heavy handed reaction.
