You'll find art galleries, restaurants and specialty shops, most of which offer complementary wine and cheese. And from 6 to 9 pm, the trolley rides are free. In fact, this whole event is free. This was a great way for us to get to know the city a little bit better and showed us the hospitality of the local artists. Fast forward to me actually living in Memphis and making this a monthly adventure of mine (I even ended up interning for one of the galleries)! I think this is a wonderful way to show off the South Main neighborhood to people who live out in the suburbs, visitors, and people who may be new to the city; a FREE event, awesomely talented artists (with beautiful art to peruse), wine, snacks, and a wonderfully underrated neighborhood to explore and you have got one special mixture! The roads get clogged with traffic late in the day so it is very hard to go anywhere unless you know the back roads. They have a lot of amenities throughout the city like parks, parkways, and things to do.

I think of the sacrifice these heroes made and it also makes me think that the people on this wall, had they lived, would be elderly now. But instead, most died before their lives had even begun. We must remember these brave young heroes and acknowledge the sacrifice they and their families made. I am glad to see Hernando, Mississippi remembers them.

It is a metallic abstract sculpture, composed of columns, funnels, seating, and a roof-like structure. From the artist's statement, "A swathe of something--it could almost be a liquid--swoops out from under the glass overhang above the entrance to the building. It's as if a liquid has been flung out from under, and frozen in the air." The ceiling is lowered to create columns. The column's bottom is built out into a ring of seats, and the roof above reflects the pavement below, giving the impression that you are sitting inside the ground. You can enter the column and create seats inside by folding up the surface, which separates into an arch. You are outside while inside the column because the wall that surrounds reflects the sky. The first Thursday of every month, the businesses in the CY area stay open late and offer specials to those who attend the event. From 10% off to buy-one-get-one's to food and drink specials, there's definitely deals to be had. There's a live band in the gazebo area and random vendors of crafts and the like. Night Out draws a pretty decent-sized crowd, and this crowd is genuinely excited to be there supporting their neighborhood. That's something I can get behind. Kudos to the residents of CY.
