Ology - Finish math for good! - Tutoring Centers Near Me - Orem, Utah

Ology isn't cheap and they will be the first to tell you it won't be easy. That said, here is what they will do for you. First, they will show you how how to enroll in the BYU Math 110 course (equivalent to UVU Math 1050) through the BYU Independent Study Program. Unlike UVU, No placement test is required to take this course. The course consists of 34 homework assignments, one pre-test, three mid-terms, and one final. The pretest and homework assignments are completed online. The mid-terms and final can be taken at the BYU Independent Study Office, the BYU Testing Center, or at an approved proctored testing facility. Here is the part I really liked. The pre-test and the three midterms can be retaken twice after the initial attempt. The final can be retaken once after the initial attempt. The fee to retake tests at BYU is $15. Also, there is no limit on the number of attempts to complete the homework assignments. Oh, they will show you how to sign up for the homework site too. By the way, I paid about $575 to BYU for this course, which includes the separate fee of $99 to access the homework website. Then, I paid Ology $1,000 for their services, which includes a structured class that covers the material, an Ology Text Book with chapters matching the homework assignments, access to their math lab w/computers and lab tutors, and free bottled water!!! Ology has a payment plan if paying $1000 up front isn't possible for you. I believe if you utilize the payment plan option it comes out to $1,100. Ology also offers a "pass or don't pay guarantee." This "guarantee" is a contract between you and Ology that basically states that if you put in the work they will pay for you to re-take the class and that includes both the BYU and Ology fees. You, the student, have to show up to class, don't be more than 15 minutes late, complete the homework assignments on schedule (Ology's schedule, not BYU's) - since BYU doesn't really have one) and miss no more than five days of class throughout the term. The first two missed class periods can be made up in the math lab, the next three you would have to make up through their private tutoring service which is $30/hour. UVU accepts BYU Math 110 as transfer credit meeting the UVU Math 1050 Course. To do this you must have a minimum combined total score of 150 points or higher on the three midterms and 50 points or higher on the Final. Each mid-term and the final are worth 100 points each. I believe your online pre-test score must be 50 points or higher. You also must get 100% on the homework assignments, which sounds hard but it's not, given the resources you will have available to you, such as the math lab tutors and your teacher. Also, wolframalpha.com can be very helpful. Another big help that Ology offers is they have and willingly distribute midterms and finals given to BYU Math 110 students from past semesters. Even though the questions aren't the same the concepts are and they were in the same order as the mid-terms and final I took. My teacher at Ology was AMAZING!!! Not only did she know math she also knew how to teach it, which is significant. She would give use the option to chose being taught a detailed lesson on a particular concept or just what we would need to know to pass, which I really liked. Unfortunately, there are teachers/tutors at Ology who have no business teaching but despite not being good teachers they do know math. I would ask questions very specific in nature but the answer would be far from what I was looking for. There was a point that I thought I wouldn't be able to pass math but I did. As good as it gets is right!! Want to make your whole life better? Take Ology. Pretty sure I've been struggling and failing out of math since the third grade. I had major anxiety about anything math related, and even fell apart with emotional stress-induced sobs the night before showing up for class because I thought that this too would be a dead end. I couldn't have been more wrong. I got a 97% on my first exam!!!! AHHHHH!!!! The tutors are amazing, the teachers are amazing, this course saved my academic life. No joke. Hate math? Take Ology. I want to give Ology 5 stars - even 3. But I just can't. I started the class with the best experience I've ever had with Math and ended it with the worst. Halfway through the "term" they switched instructors on my class and needless to say my second instructor, while very nice, was a terrible Math teacher. It is so frustrating to go from one of the best Math instructors I've ever had in my life to one of the worst. I felt for the first time I was going to understand the concepts of this Math class only to revert back to my previous expectations of math: disappointment and confusion. The lesson learned here is that Ology can be good if you get a good instructor. They have small classes, which is nice but useless if the instructor doesn't teach or care about teaching. (#2 always had his laptop open, took numerous breaks and the biggest sin - outright refused to answer questions or give help during Midterm REVIEWS for the sake of time as he said we were behind his other classes?!) Our previous instructor was one who encouraged questions and would stop after each concept to make sure we understood. Because of this, we were always talking, engaged and asking questions. You wouldn't recognize our class by the end of term, we were so quiet. But what do you expect when questions are scoffed at or never answered? I was so disappointed with the way our class ended. I don't feel as though I learned much of anything during the last half of our class and it hurt my scores on midterms. Ology does allow students to retake the class for only 99 dollars. I didn't opt for this as I needed to finish by a certain date. They also have a great open study area with Instructors/Tutors available for questions and LOTS of practice Midterms. I would recommend taking advantage of this if you find yourself with a less than fantastic Instructor. read more

I took math 110 (math 1050 from uvu) this last semester and loved it. Yes it's hard and yes math sucks and yes I studied a lot but honestly they make it really easy for you to learn the material. Do Not Trust Ology!!!! They are dishonest scam of a company. I signed up for online math 1050 class for Fall 2019 in April. Two weeks after enrolling and paying tuition up front I was informed I no longer need the class for my degree. I contacted Ology, filled out the drop form and waited. Making a process unreasonably difficult on purpose can be infuriating. SEVENTEEN phone calls, numerous texts, emails and even a text from the owner promising a refund and four months later still no refund!!! I never even took the class and still cannot get my money back I would not believe their money back policy for the life of me. I would recommend Ology. I didn't have the best experience but it was worth it. There was a lot of miscommunication as far as the timeline to finish the course and to retake the final. My credit took over a year to transfer. However I would still recommend them. Teachers were great and I loved the small class sizes. read more

Ology was a great experience for me! I was so worried about having to take math again. I am going back to school as one of those "non-traditional" (a.k.a. older) students. Math was never my strong point, and the thought of taking college math scared me silly. A friend of daughter suggested I give Ology a try and I don't regret it one bit! After failing statistics once at UVU, I decided to give Ology a try. The price is steep- 1,500$ altogether but it is WORTH it. I have never recommended something more. Becky was my teacher and seriously made all the difference between passing and not passing. After not taking math for three years, I got b's and a's on all the tests which is a huge deal considering math is something I have struggled with my entire life. They give you a book they put together to filter out all the useless information. You have to go to class to pass but when you're paying 1500$ you should be doing that anyways. I've struggled with math for years, hence why I waited (4yrs) until the last minute to complete the requirement! I "graduated" from UVU with the agreement that I would finish my math class over the summer, so this class was all that was allowing UVU to hold my degree hostage! After enrolling and doing the work I still felt like I wasn't going to finish and knew if I didn't I'd be letting a lot of people down! (I'm the first to graduate college in my family and I did it with a B.S. in legal studies) So, after taking the final and bombing it, they allowed me to come in everyday for a few hours to study. We set out a easy study plan and as long as I stuck with it they helped with the pass or don't pay guarantee!! Mark, Destry, Brooke and everyone else was amazing!! Math has always been a struggle for me, and Ology was my last resort. I signed up for the 8 week Math 1050 class. They give you the tools and resources you need to pass math, if you are willing to put in the work. I made sure I kept myself eligible for the "pass or don't pay guarantee". I also went to test reviews and got help in the math lab when I needed it. My teacher was great, and the teachers in the math lab were also very helpful. Each had something unique to offer, and simple ways to help me understand. I had failed MATH 1010 2-3 times at UVU. Thanks to Ology, I passed my final with an 83.33%, the highest grade I ever received on a math test. I can honestly say that Ology was worth every penny. read more
