My husband and I love to visit new locations. This weekend, I found on the map an area where I had not yet been. This place turned out to be Olverita's Village. Very colorful. I really like small authentic shops. With so many stars and good reviews, it was worth a try. I didn't think it was possible, but I was immediately attracted by these beautifully decorated souvenirs, in the form of animals. They are luminescent. For $35-45, I think the price is normal. After all, it is handmade. Full of unique finds and deals, I'm impressed that the quality is excellent. A huge selection of goods, dresses, bags, hats, souvenirs and much more. You can also eat Mexican food here.

I have lived in LA for years and never been to this little tiny village smack in the middle of DTLA. I've heard so many people talk about it but the idea of having to find parking and the schlep to this older part of DTLA never seem attractive enough for me to make the trip. We came here over Memorial Day Weekend while driving around. We stopped at the original Phillipe's (1st time as well) to have a French dipped sandwich and decided to stay around since we already paid for parking. Surprisingly there is a lot to see within walking distance. Olverita's Village has the hodgepodge of kitschy Mexican stalls with tourist souvenirs. But what impressed me was the historical nature of the neighborhood. There were many historical buildings and free museums you can just wonder around in. Also it is within walking distance from Chinatown so you can wonder around there as well. Usually you want to avoid parking at the main lots with their $1.50 for 20 min parking rates and find smaller street where they charge $5 for parking for the day so you can have time to stroll around. Next time I would try some of the Mexican eateries right in the village to get the full ambiance.

Love this place. I have been coming here since I was a kid. I love that I can find women's guayberas in different colors.

We parked for $4 flat in the Chunsan Plaza lot, a block away from Yang Chow, and then shopped at the stores nearby. This store, a few doors down from Yang Chow, caught our eye, because they had gorgeous silk pillow covers and table runners in many colors and patterns. A darling pink tutu with matching Chinese brocade top caught my eye, so I got it for my 4-year-old niece ($10). The more I looked through the store, the more I saw! It was a plethora of interesting and useful things - all at bargain prices! Bonsai trees Lucky bamboo Money trees Fob-y looking womens and mens clothing Womens traditional cheongsan (brocade) dresses Childrens clothing Shoes Cozy slipper socks with treads Cute asian tchochkes Asian art Cheap costume jewelry Fun gifty things The couple who owned the store were very sweet and helpful. My friend got 2 pillow forms, 2 gorgeous embroidered silk pillow covers, and a satin chinese table runner for $22. What a deal! I'll definitely be back to shop more for myself and for gifts when I can spend more time here!

Not sure if I liked all the combination of bamboo and vases but what I did like was the girl was willing pull out certain bamboo pieces I wanted from premade vases and put them in new vases for me. Flexible. I like it. I thought I got a rather good deal but then when I came back after 10 minutes because I wanted to buy 3 more plants she said she charged me wrong so I gave her some more money. Still a decent pay but not as good as a deal as I thought. They have money trees too all three kinds, like it. =) A tip though is the bamboo places in the back alley near the gold line are even cheaper and I got a really nice bamboo line up in a turtle vase for $10. (but i didnt get the address so i cant yelp it ) CASH ONLY

Fantastic must-visit shopping plaza in Chinatown. It felt so nostalgic for me to come back here…read morebecause it reminds me of my youth and grandparents! I used to come here often as a kid, and the feel/essence of the place has stayed the same! There's so many different shops ran by hard working and often elderly folks. There's shops that sell kitchenware, clothes, shoes, luggage, art, toys, and even a sewing business. Everything was extremely affordable and the quality of products weren't bad. Some stores look closed, but don't be fooled... this place is large and it's easy to get lost. There weren't many visitors or customers walking around. I do worry about if this place will sustain another generation. I sincerely hope it can stay alive for a long time to come Overall, this is a great shopping plaza that I recommend LA Chinatown visitors to visit.

Since it is almost Tet, there are lots of decor and li xi (lucky red letter envelopes) being sold here. You can get knock off bags like Kipling. There are lots of pajamas, ao dai (traditional Vietnamese clothing) and Chinese outfits. There are kids clothes, shoes, toys and pajamas. The workers sometimes will try to sell or advertise their stuff to you but they're not pushy about it. I came on a Monday so it was empty and easy to navigate. They had t-shirts for $10 for 3 and women's pants for $5. The bad: It can be difficult to find street parking. We got metered parking a few blocks down. The interesting: There are food vendors here too and a spooky restroom with flickering lights.
