The thing that attracted me most was the playground that featured plenty of shade as well as playscapes that worked for various ages including babies with a soft floor. I also want to highlight that this park features hiking trails and a great view overlooking downtown Pittsburgh. It's tucked into a historic neighborhood so the drive to the park was also pleasant. If I lived in the area, I could see myself frequenting this park. Overall a wonderful experience and we will definitely visit the next time we are in Pittsburgh!

The park is all dirt and there is water there for your dogs and some benches to sit on. This is not a place to go in the rain as it will get muddy or at night as it would be a prime place for crime.

It is one of the…read morelargest and cleanest parks in the heart of the city, with a trail system and variety of recreational spaces that rival some of the biggest parks in Pittsburgh. It is incredible to have such a large natural area surrounded by the energy of the city. The park offers a pool, playgrounds, skating rink, pavilions, and other activities throughout, but the highlight is the extensive network of trails. There are so many paths to explore that you could spend an entire day walking here and still discover something new. Panther Hollow Trail is one of my favorites. It runs through much of the park, is beautifully shaded, and is a great option on hot, sunny days when you want to enjoy the outdoors without being in direct sunlight the entire time. The main trail is wide, well-graveled, and easy to navigate for groups, walkers, and people with pets. It also connects to other trails throughout the park, including the Bridle Trail and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Anderson Playground is another unique feature, with its three-tier fountains and creative playground equipment. There are also porta potties throughout the park, which makes spending several hours exploring much easier. One of my favorite things about Schenley Park is that every visit feels different. You can walk around, find new areas, see different activities happening, and create new memories each time. I have enjoyed many walks here with different friends over the years, and it remains one of my favorite places in Pittsburgh to enjoy nature, sunshine, and time outdoors.

I was fortunate and privileged to grow up with Frick as my backyard and walked all over the place before graduating to riding mountain bikes on the trails when the sport was in its infancy. Later, I ran high school cross-country races in Schenley and trained in Frick Park. Nowadays, we enjoy the flowers, wildlife, and groomed and maintained trails. I never appreciated how unique, rare, and amazing the parks are until I moved away and it's so great to see them treated as the unique assets they truly are.

It's one of those places where you can return again and again and still find something new, which makes it feel really special to me. The way the trails connect is one of my favorite things. Nine Mile Run flows into Deer Creek, which then connects into Tranquil Trail, creating an easy, continuous experience through the park. And thats just one corner of the park. While bathrooms are not abundant, you will occasionally find a porta potty, and there is often trash cans and benches toward the entrances and parking lots of the trail as well. Overall it's just a wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon, and I really hope spaces like this continue to be preserved as an important part of Pittsburgh's identity and history.

It's big with lots to do and was a favorite for my daughter as a toddler. There's the wave pool which is great on a hot summer day. BMX trails, remember those fondly with boyfriends. Hiking, biking and walking trails, horses and stables. Loads and loads of picnic and wooded areas for more hiking. Ponds, and BUFFALO...did I mention the buffalo? Amazing. Not to mention plenty of open land (once the fairgrounds) for festivals and concerts, have seen several bands. Lots and lots of beautiful flowers and vegetation, and wildlife. It turns out that it's 40 acres and has a playground, 3 softball/baseball fields (two of which are lighted), an all-purpose field (for soccer, lacrosse, or just playing with your dog as one older gentleman was doing), and bathrooms. Other than that there's not much to it. It is easy to miss when driving down Baptist Road. However it is very well kept and on this Sunday afternoon wasn't crowded at all. So if you just want that simple walk in the park without running into everyone and their uncle, you might want to take a ride over here. It doesn't beat Schenley or South Park in terms of amenities, but it's a beautiful, clean park in its own right, hence the 4 stars.

And honestly, you can't talk about Settlers Cabin without mentioning the picnic groves. I swear, half of my summer weekends over the decades have been spent at a cookout, grad party, or other gatherings with friends at one of those pavilions, eating hot dogs and hamburgers.
