Set up for a wedding ceremony
    Laura H.

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception here and we couldn't have been more pleased with the service, the gorgeous venue, the accommodations and the surrounding amenities! We chose this site as our venue before construction even started, as we were aware of the beautiful events that Brook and Nick Hudson were able to produce for Omaha Fashion Week and were easily convinced that the aesthetic of the Omaha Design Center would surely follow suit. They also provided the ease of an onsite coordinator to help navigate the daunting wedding planning process, which allowed me to be able to plan and prep for my wedding in 9 months during my busy job as a medical resident. They took great care of us and provided great communication with our venders to allow for the coordination of planning and set-up for everything. They allow you to use any catering company in the area, which is nice since many venues require you to use their personal caterer which can limit your options and sometimes require you to pay a higher price. They provide dinner tables, cocktail tables, tablecloths/chair covers in either white or black included in the price of the venue rental. What is really unique to this site is your ability to completely transform the room by being able to choose colored lighting that illuminates the gorgeous white curtains that line the perimeter. The curtains and stunning chandeliers add elegance to the industrial ceilings and concrete flooring. Their bar packages were much more expensive than others that we price checked in the area (ie Attitude on Food) and they require you to utilize their services. However, it actually ended up being more reasonable than we originally thought when we payed for drinks a la carte instead of "unlimited by the hour". They do accept credit cards (instead of cash-only) which is nice for guests if you only provide a limited or no open bar. The bar tenders were fantastic and even bought my husband and I a few specialty drinks on the house. The location of the venue is in close vicinity to 3 hotels that were perfect for our guests to enjoy the night and not have to worry about finding safe transportation home. The hotels also provided shuttle service to-from the airport, downtown and Midtown Crossing which allowed us and our guests to be chauffeured to our rehearsal dinner and the salon as a group at no extra cost (other than tip). The security service was incredible as well. They were professional, friendly, readily available, and attended to any concerns we had throughout the day. They also allowed us to have access to the Tip Top Lofts Rooftop to take pictures after our ceremony, which was a fun surprise to quickly sneak away as our guests were enjoying cocktails and mingling with one another. The only downside was that due to how busy they were (they had events there the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday prior to our Saturday wedding) we were unable to bring anything to set up or do any rehearsals until 9am the day of our wedding. However, this was not too big of an issue for us since we had few things to set up on our own and we stayed in the hotel next door the night before and thus had everything packed and ready to transfer over that morning. Friends and family were also of great help! If we could rewind, we would without a doubt make the same choice to get married here and I think the word is spreading quick as the venue is booking up fast! We look forward to enjoying some of the other unique events taking place there in the future!

Depending upon your event, there are a couple of areas to choose from, and the outdoor space is simply beautiful. What made this review a 3 instead of a 5 is two things: 1) Parking. It's on-street and not plentiful near the venue. When I attended, I did a terrible thing (because I got so frustrated with driving around the blocks for parking); I parked on the sidewalk. Not the best choice, I admit. Now I know to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of any event there. 2) The chairs. HORRIBLE. I attended a theatrical production as part of the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Including announcements, the production lasted 90 minutes--90 excruciating minutes. To make sure it wasn't just my reaction, I looked around. What I discovered was an audience of so many people moving, bending, adjusting, and re-adjusting in their seats. It's as if the owners of 40th Street said, "What are the cheapest, most uncomfortable chairs on the planet? Yep! Let's buy those!!" If you attend an event here in which you will be sitting for longer than 20 minutes, bring a seat cushion with you. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll note that I'm unforgiving when it comes to uncomfortable seating. This venue had the worst by far. The owners should eat their own dog food and sit in those chairs for at least half an hour just to experience what their guests are experiencing. That said, if you're looking for a place to hold an event--and you want something out of the ordinary and memorable--I recommend 40th Street Theatre. If you're a business and want a get away event where your employees can have some nosh and network, I think it's great for that. Standing, chatting, mixing, mingling--40th Street Theatre hits a home run for that.
