I forgot to get cabbage at the Old Market farmers market on Saturday, so came to Aksarben on Sunday. Be mindful that the hours are not exactly the same. The advantages of this one is that there is free parking, and the ground is not uneven so it's easier to walk. There are a lot of vendors. It's a large area and there are a LOT of people. So many things to browse and buy. It's really nice, though personally I prefer the downtown one, because I would rather just be downtown anyway. read more

Dog friendly, stroller friendly, and kid friendly it could be a weekly staple for some families. I am glad this year it's back in the village vs by Baxter arena. This was my frist time at the farmers market in so long and it exceeded my expectations! Got great, free parking and was able to find our way easily. There was a huge variety of vendors. Went to look for the Omaha Bagel Co. and they sold out so quickly! Ended up getting some cat grass and other trinkets. Will def. go again! read more

Omaha has the best farmers markets and that really is saying something. Between the two big ones (downtown and here), I would give this one the edge but only slightly and I'm going to explain why. Parking: this is the first big one. Most of you know the parking in the Old Market on Saturdays is metered parking after 9am. So you can either be like me and show up at 8AM to get a free meter for an hour or you have to pay for it. This market has free parking! There is a parking garage behind Jones Bros and a lot of people park across the street in the arena parking lot also. Selection: This market has far more vendors than any of the other markets around here because there is more space to spread out. I, of course, do have my favorites (namely the Welchert's who only do this market now as well as my honey lady at It's all about Bees) that keep me coming back every weekend. Hours: This market is open an hour later than the other one and I am not a morning person at all. I only ever make an exception for the market. So are there cons? To me yes there are. Along with this being more spread out the downside is there are a TON more people that come here and after 10:30 it gets pretty crazy. It's really frustrating when you're trying to walk down the street but can't because a group of 12 people decide to stand in the middle and have a reunion. Also dogs. Now I know this will ruffle some people's feathers but I REALLY think you shouldn't be allowed to bring your dogs. I have seen far too many fights break out between dogs and I've also seen a small child almost get injured in the middle. Also when it gets crazy busy there isn't room for your great dane to comfortably walk around and I feel bad for the dogs that end up getting shoved everywhere or stepped on. Moreover if your dog is so crazy you need to hold it in your arms so it doesn't attack someone; that's a sign it should stay home. Mostly though, there just isn't room! There is barely room at times for the humans to walk around. So if you're still reading this and I haven't completely pissed you off my tl;dr is you should visit this market and the other markets here in Omaha. You really can save a lot of money if you're smart and shop around between vendors. Pro tip: MOST vendors don't take credit cards, but you can head over to the official farmers market stall (at this market it's in the middle where all the streets meet up near Jones Bros) and get blue tokens in increments of $5. They can be used at any of the vendors like cash and you get your cash back if you only say spend $4. Just be aware there is a $1 transaction fee to cover their costs (and that's no matter how much you get). They also have green tokens that are worth $1 which are for food stamps. Yep! You can take your snap card to the stall and use it to get fresh goodness. They also do a matching program, which currently is up to the first $20 per market. Meaning if you spend $20 on your snap card, you get an extra $20 FREE for a total of $40. There is also an ATM on site, but I don't know what the fee for that is. read more

Coming to this farmers market in Aksarben Village has quickly become a staple in my Sunday reset routine! Even if I don't always buy something, I really enjoy walking around and exploring all of the vendors and seeing what local farmers, artisans, etc. have to offer. I prefer this location to the Old Market one because it is much larger and more easily accessible in terms of parking. Aksarben Village always has space in their many parking garages. The market itself has a HUGE variety, so whether you're looking for produce, meat, bread, coffee, lemonade (definitely recommend), or art (and more!), this is a great place to shop. Items are reasonably priced as well, though of course there is sometimes a premium for local quality. I will say that it has been very crowded in my experience, which can be overwhelming and make it a bit difficult to get around at times, but I can hardly blame everyone for wanting to be there. Get ready to spend time in the sun, but there are small areas of shade for respite. I have had nothing but pleasant interactions here, whether it be with vendors or fellow patrons! read more

I enjoyed my experience at this market. It was crowded and I had taken my dog. My dog seemed to be overwhelmed by the experience (which is not like her). Unfortunately her behavior there encouraged me to arrange a vet visit and my poor pup has double ear infections . I plan to attend again once she has recovered and I'm sure we both will have a great experience. Many booths I wanted to visit but couldn't. Especially the local honey booth. read more

The Aksarben farmer's market is a little larger than the Old Market location, bringing in a whole new crowd from West Omaha that might not be willing to drive to Downtown on a Saturday. I like that for me, there are two main farmer's markets within 15 mins of our house, and if I have work on a Saturday, there is an option for me for Sunday. Aksarben's location seems to have more things for dogs, including more tents selling dog related items and lots of water for them to drink (and play in during hot days). We absolutely love that! There are seasonal items as far as produce and also stands for food made to order and crafts. It's an awesome way to support local, and also get out and be part of the community. I love that we are dog friendly here in Omaha, as other cities I have visited have strict no animal policies. The market runs from May to Oct, so visitors and locals have many opportunities to come and shop. Also, there are many surrounding businesses to have brunch or grab a snack and bite before or during your vist-with plenty of parking and green space. read more

Not sure what else to add. I agree with everyone else, excellent vendors, prices, and we love the enchilada place too. We almost always go home with a half dozen of the chicken enchiladas. In my opinion, the produce selection really starts to get good around the end of June/early July. I love that it's very pet friendly. I enjoy looking at all the different breeds of dogs. The only annoyance is when people/customers have a tendency to stop and socialize right in the middle of the isles. If you want to stop, say hi and talk to your friends, that's fine, if you could just move aside and do it on the sidewalk, or in the park area? That way, you're not blocking the customers who are there to actually shop and to get in and out quickly. Parking is a pain in the ass no matter what time you go. If you want to park in the parking garage, have patience and be ready to circle a few times. Another option is to park across the street in Baxter Arena, it's not as hectic. read more

Between getting a balloon animal for my son , fresh squeezed lemon aid and salsa ! Every week something new is added as the season goes on . This was one of the first places I went off campus and it was so fun! Several highlights include 1. Kids playing instruments, my personal favorite: boy kid playing accordion 2. Erick's Enchiladas: I buy a bunch to freeze anytime I go 3. A vast variety of dogs to admire 4. Free samples 5. The Greek station! It's insane and every single thing is so good 6. I like this farmers market a lot better than the one downtown. Can't really put my finger on why cause most of the vendors are the same. Lots of free samples and all the baked goods we tried were delicious! Too bad we ran here from our house and did not really wanna grab stuff that'd we have to carry back. I recommend the beef enchiladas from Erick's Enchiladas, their salsa verde is so good with it. The samples of tea with honey from the honey stand were also very refreshing, although a little too sweet. It is always pretty crowded and a lot of people bring their cute dogs. I wish there was more options for produce, I hardly see any fruits being sold and every stall sells pretty much the same variety of vegetables. Still a good time and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do in Aksarben afterwards! read more

I love the Farmer's Market so much! I am used to the one in downtown Portland. It goes on for blocks! I am getting better with going to this one though. I have a terrific wagon (everyone needs of these from either Costco or Sam's Club) which I pull so I am not laden down with all my purchases. I also brought my own bags to save on the plastic ones. Here is what I will bring to the next trip, an insulated bag. Some of the meat I buy comes frozen and the last thing you want to do is wander around looking at everything while stuff starts to soften. They have almost everything here. Meat and eggs and organic free range chicken and low carb bread. That is super expensive at $9.00 a loaf but you can cut it down and it freezes well. My favorite stall is the Parthenon Greek bakery from Lincoln. Apple Fritters the size of your head. read more

I've been a regular at the Omaha Farmer's Market for over 10 years, first at the Old Market and now Aksarben Village since it's closer to home. I love, love, love the Farmer's Market - it's one of the highlights of my week. During lettuce season we have fantastic salads for weeks. Other regular purchases include jam, salsa, green onions, tomatoes, spicy mustard, and Greek pastries. Smoking Gun Jerky is a bit pricey but so worth it. The blue cheese bread from Le Quartier bakery is to die for. I've found many a unique gift at the crafty booths. It's fun to sample and try something new every week. Hoping to buy a couple steaks and try some bubble tea from the Mai Thai next time. Italy in Your Kitchen and Provisions by The Grey Plume are recent welcome additions. If you're hungry while there, there are several options for brunch or a snack : Laura's Famous Eggrolls, Liv Lounge, Jones' Bros Cupcakes, Voodoo Taco and last week I saw the La Casa truck parked nearby. With the playground and splash fountain right there at Stinson, it's a fun outing for the whole family. My only complaint is that is has gotten really crowded in the past four years but that's a good thing for all the local businesses. Best to get there early for serious shopping. I think it tapers off a bit toward the end of the summer. read more

I love coming to the farmers market weekly, veggies are always fresh and a variety is always available for the picking. Other vendors are around for breads, baked goods and services. My favorite vendor is Adagio, they make the best soaps, lotions and other smell good things for your home and self. Local is better in my book. read more

This review is not just for the farmer's market that occurs during the summer months, but also the Holiday Market that usually takes place first weekend in December (go to their website as the date changes every year). The Farmers Market: Wonderful selection of fresh produce, meat, cheese and baked goods. I love the fact that they usually have flowers and plants for purchase as well. If you are coming early morning I recommend Eric's Enchilada's you can't go wrong, or one of the many tasty pastries that come in huge portions from the Greek bakery. Dog friendly! Also the parking in the 3 story parking complex is free, bonus because the Old Market farmers market is always a pain to park at. The Holiday Market: I've been to this two years now, and always find something cool. It's a heated covered tent in the street, same place as the farmer's market. They have a range of crafts, local stores selling their goods, a few vendors that are at the summer market sell stuff here, art for sale, and some holiday focused goods. To give you an idea of what is usually there: Wheatfields sells their pre made gingerbread houses that are undecorated ready for you to take home decorate and eat (yum!), Three dogs bakery has a few dog toys, treats, and cute stuff for your dogs, the local root beer brewery and winery show up here for free tastings and sell their goods, the jam/honey lady is here, tea/coffees for sale, candles/soap makers, soup/dip/cookie mixes, jerky man, a local toy store shows up, jewelry makers, barn wood carpenter that sells really pretty tables/trays, scarfves/hats/gloves......there's much more. They also have a food court area in the back if you are hungry. This one is NOT dog friendly since the covered tents make for much closer quarters than the outdoor summer market. Most vendors except cards, but not all so bring some cash just in case. read more

The prices are great and the vendors are friendly. There are also tons of brunch options at Dudley's, Jones Bros., Amatos, and Over Easy operating out of Liv Lounge. Wow! What a difference a year makes. Arrived at the "new and improved " OFM this morning. And since the wife and I are real honest to Pete retirees we got to go in first. The selection was decent but not as comprehensive as previous years. I was really looking for the soap people but was told this was something the health department said couldn't be sold. Huh??!! Yeah, they want us to wash our hand a thousand times a day. Unfortunately I prefer the locally made soap and now some difficulties in finding it now. Next to look for the special baked dog treats we used to get last year.... nope not there. Lots of veggies and a few vendors with reasonably priced cuts of meat (frozen of course). All in all not what I was expecting. But with the social distances we all have to observe, nothing will be like before. But as a Senior we got in first. This was great because as we left there was a long line to get in. Unfortunately social distances were not really observed in the line at all. In the military I was told to adjust, overcome and adapt. Currently this is not the case for many of the patrons that arrived at 10:00am. Hopefully this will not be the norm. But in the meantime......adjust, overcome and adapt. We're all in this together. Now to find some cool soap read more

You can't go wrong coming here. I visit almost every week, every year and as I have my "must" booths, I always make it a point to try new ones as well. They never disappoint. From beef jerky to goat/sheep lotion and veggies, plants and baked goods-I have never eaten or purchased a bad item here. Everyone is so friendly and patient and helpful. Tons of different vendors for an all around great time. Parking is fine since the garages are nearby-you just may have to walk a few extra steps to get to the market. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful place to get fresh produce every Sunday from May through Oct. From 9-1p vendors are set up and you can wander around browsing and sampling everything from bread, to cheese, to granola, and salsa. Depending on the time of the season, you can find any kind of locally grown produce at reasonable prices. We usually come early as it can get very crowded and hot. It is also recommended that you bring your own bag to carry your produce and most of the vendors only take cash and small bills are preferred of course. Every time we go we find new additions or a new treasure. My always-must-get is a giant jar of garlic mustard because that gets used on the daily for sandwiches. And the new find this week was the bacon granola. Yes, you read that right. It was interesting and amazing. And said to be used well in eggs. Hmmmm. Must try that at some point. Sometimes we like to just sit and people watch for a while - or dog watch as there are always plenty of those also. Plenty of close parking can always be found in the parking garage. read more

We enjoyed the downtown farmers market, however the corn we purchased from a vendor was comparable to feed corn. We threw out all of the 13 ears! The berries were ok, not worth the premium price we paid, same is true of the tomatoes. Will not go again. read more
