This is a great place for your child to be challenged and learn and grow at a phenomenal pace. I have been especially pleased with how they have handled virtual learning through Covid19. While many students across the country have lost a year, the children here have continued to be challenged and learn at an exceptional rate. This is a language-based school and I am constantly blown away that my daughter can read and write in 2 languages. This is our child's 3rd year at Omni, and we have been very pleased with our daughters growth academically. This school has a very family friendly environment, in which not only the parents are heavily involved but all the teachers and administrators have the children's best interest at heart. Omni International School is one of Atlanta's hidden gems for more reasons than this review will allow characters for, I'm sure. First, the patience I've witnessed from the teachers managing classes via Zoom is so remarkable I'm in awe just thinking about how they manage a whole classroom of littles in-person. Second, the teacher-to-student ratio is perfect for the intensely immersive format of the curriculum. It is truly amazing to witness stages of growth we often take for granted--the stages of learning language. Learning to speak English is so common in the USA that we seldom realize the time it takes to learn, the processes we endure as children learning language, and how essential language is in building confidence and mental prowess. Omni International compounds this value with its focus on immersion not only in English (speaking, reading, writing) but in Chinese, Japanese,Spanish, and even Math and Science! To see a shy, apprehensive 2-year-old walk into Omni International School, blossom into a confident, strong-willed, outgoing, creative 5-year old--that's an amazing thing. Our daughter started Omni International School this past year and we have really enjoyed our experience. Our child is really challenged academically but in such a supportive environment. Even with virtual classes, the educators were able to keep the students fully engaged. The teachers and staff are responsive, encouraging and creative. Our first grader started at Omni International School this August and in a short period of time, we have seen him grow in leaps and bounds. Previously, we were living in Southern California and had him attending kindergarten at a public school that offered Mandarin Immersion. The class size was 28 (with no aide) that gets chaotic even on the best days. After touring over a dozen Mandarin Immersion schools on both coasts, we decided that Omni was truly a gem. The biggest sell for most people is the language, and the kids will learn it no matter what in an environment of constant exposure. But the surprise for us is that Omni is academically rigorous as well. To illustrate, our son progressed from adding and subtracting in single digits to solving word problems with multiple steps and digits. In our previous kinder, the kids were barely starting to read simple sentences. Now at Omni, he reads and writes paragraphs. Most language schools will promote the idea that research shows that immersion education leads to academic achievement. But few schools are able to put in place a cohesive plan for academic success in the other subject areas because the school day gets really limited (in order to fit everything in). In fact, one of the biggest complaints from parents in other immersion schools is that their children are often "behind" their mainstream peers in the earlier grades (but studies show they will later catch up and surpass). Therefore, the ultimate burden falls onto the parents to supplement subjects in English at home. Fortunately at Omni, most of the kids are challenged from the beginning to perform a grade or two ahead; the learning is also individualized in the small classes. There is homework help from the teachers afterschool on most weekdays, which takes a lot of the pressure off parents. Yet another plus is that the founder has a clear vision for educating children. Our recently turned 4 year old daughter started at this school (Japanese track) one year ago. I am now writing the review because the proof is in the pudding after a year. A year ago we knew we wanted a true immersion language program that she could continue with until graduation (since we speak only English at home) and this school is one of a kind in Atlanta. Finding this school has been such a blessing as the caring teachers and their teaching skills have WOWED us since day 1. We continue to be impressed with the curriculum and the teachers at Omni. When I drop my child off in the morning, we know she is not only learning at an impressive level but is also well looked after by the faculty and staff. I like that my child has homework (even at the age of 3) and is challenged with the task of being taught to speak, read & write in an Asian language all the while still covering the core curriculum. Her teachers send us pictures of her class working on projects and playing which confirms that she is not only learning but having fun. It is obvious that Mrs. Marks, the founder & head of school, has developed this school's program with extreme devotion & care and it shows in the low attrition rate of the student body. People are surprised that our daughter has homework in pre-school but we want her to be exposed to as much as possible at a young age so that she will be prepared for kindergarten and beyond. I recommend reading the school's handbook (available online) as that is what first sold our family on the school. After touring the school we decided the school was the best school for our daughter). We like that the school encourages parents to participate (and actually requires some volunteer hours). Since the school is small, I feel that my opinion counts. The school regularly asks parents for feedback and then makes accommodations/changes as needed. I respect that the school teaches to each child's individual level. My daughter is reading and spelling somewhere at the kindergarten-1st grade level (b/c when I buy the Prek-1st grade books she can do almost everything in them including telling time). I see her progress in Japanese as well (she knows most of the Hiragana) and is learning to write, add & subtract in Japanese just as if she were in school in Japan. I am looking forward to her being able to read children's books in Japanese as well as having conversations with native speakers. The fact she will also begin learning Spanish in kindergarten is a bonus because it is my personal belief the earlier the exposure to a foreign language, the better. We wish we known about the school when our child was two and half years old. So after a year, we think the school is great and we feel confident we are providing our child with the best education. I could not be more pleased with a school, and we have tried a few. My children (ages 3 and 5) often do not want to leave because they are having so much fun. This is the first school where my daughter has been academically challenged, and always in a positive, supportive way. As a non-profit, OMNI is an amazing value. The head-of-school and her husband have worked tirelessly and sacrificed to offer this educational opportunity as a ministry to our community. As an MIT graduate, I am picky about the quality of my children's education, and as I Christian, I am wary about where and with whom my children spend the majority of their time. However, I can attest that OMNI is truly a place where children can reach their God-given potential, and I pray that many more families will be blessed by what it has to offer. read more
