When I lived in Fort Collins some people referred me to S&H Construction. The individual that runs…read morethis company certainly has his good points but overall the man is a self righteous pig. The good points is that he seems to know what he is doing half the time. I will refer to this individual as S.H. His cost of labor is considerably higher than other handy man contractors in the area. He has come in handy in the past where we bought some firewood from him and he came over and did some odd jobs at the house for my husband and I on a few occasions. The reason why I recommend not hiring him is not just because of his high cost of labor. He also buys cheap supplies for repairs and then it starts showing the quality of where he bought it from and how much he paid for it. Of course then we pay the premium cost for an inferior product. His way of us calling him back so we can give him more work. A good example is my tiled floor and wall in the kitchen in our house that we once owned here in town. S.H. came and retiled the floor and the sides of the kitchen. Within a year I would say that the tile on the wall started chipping off and parts of the floor were peeling up. I would not have been so frustrated if we had kids throwing things around the house and running through the house abusing the floors but that is not the case. It is just my husband and I and we are not people that put a lot of wear and tear in our homes. Aside from the questionable quality at times when one is running a business one should NEVER show their personal beliefs or prejudices. S.H. does not seem to know this. By getting involved with conversations with my husband I overheard racist and homophobic remarks from S.H. Both my husband and I have very dear friends who are Latino and Latina and the subject matter that involved the racist remarks involved Latinos and Latinas. We both have relatives that are gay and lesbian and homophobic remarks were being dealt out on another occasion like nobodies business. Both my husband and I resent the fact that we felt like we were in an old boys club locker room. After that occasion we decided not to call him back for anymore contract work. The potatoes have eyes and the corn has ears my friend. I was so relieved to leave Fort Collins for so many reasons and this is one of them. Far too many people like S.H. engaged in fake and two faced behavior in Fort Collins. When we left town I did not look back and gave the town a double bird, vowing never to return.
