Went to On the Hook Fish and Chips yesterday. I had high hopes but was very disappointed. The fish was okay at best, pieces were small and batter was chewy from being put in a cardboard box and the steam ruined the crispy crust. They should have been wrapped in paper, the classic way to serve them. Fries were great, but the cole slaw was a total rip off. Just shredded cabbage with a very small amount of odd, sweet, non-mayo dressing - terrible. I will never go back. If you want really good fish and chips like you get in the UK, go to the Captian's Corner in Paradise, MO, by Smithville Lake. All of their food is outstanding. read more

This is the second time we have taken advantage of a local visit by this food truck. They have a very simple menu which is fish n chips. The fish is cod and on our first visit it was crunchy and delicious. Our second visit the fish was not as crispy and a little undercooked but still delicious. They are fries with the fish but I am not much of a fried potato person. I will try them again the next time they are in the neighborhood and will ask for extra crispy to be sure it is well cooked. read more

I've heard people rave about this place so I was excited to finally try it! I'm not one that normally goes for fish and chips but this was amazing. We came about half an hour before closing and the line was pretty long. It took about 30 mins from the time we got in line until we got our food but it was totally worth it! The food was hot and the fish was sooo good. It normally comes with 3 pieces of fish but they threw an extra piece into mine which I wasn't mad about. The batter was really crunchy which I prefer. It comes with tartar sauce and sriracha mayo and they were both delicious! The chips were also yummy too. I was starving but I couldn't finish it all so with dinner and leftovers, I felt like I definitely got my money's worth! I don't know where to even begin with this disaster of an experience. My friends and I encountered one of their food trucks on K-10 highway, and let me just say -- it was an absolute nightmare. Not only was the weather terrible (rain, wind, you name it), but we were just trying to make our way through the bad conditions, when this food truck decided to make our lives worse. This truck kept trying to pass us, even though it was unsafe, and they couldn't care less about the conditions or the fact that we were just trying to drive cautiously. After a few attempts to pass, they finally succeeded -- and then, as if it wasn't enough, they FLIPPED US OFF. I repeat: they FLIPPED US OFF. Not only is this incredibly unprofessional, but it's downright dangerous and rude. Who even does that? A food truck -- serving food, mind you -- actively putting drivers at risk and then showing us the middle finger? I don't care how good your fish and chips are; I'll NEVER be eating at "On the Hook" again. They clearly don't know how to drive, treat customers with any respect, or handle basic human decency. They only have one thing on the menu (fish and chips) but they do it well. The fish was plump and juicy on the inside but crispy and flavorful. It was delicious even without any sauce and had the perfect amount of batter to fish. There was a line but it moved relatively fast and the food was piping hot when we got it. It held pretty well on our drive home as well. I did have to take a star off for serving Kraft tartar sauce and not their house made sauce as advertised on their website.
