Urbanest

I moved into my new student digs about a week ago now. This isn't the first time I've moved out of…read morehome, and it isn't the first time I've been living in a specialty student place (hello boarding school), but Urbanest is definitely a different experience. First of all the communal areas are pretty snazzy. Everything is modern, there are silent study areas, places to hang out, and a great balcony with a bbq that I suspect will be perfect for entertaining in Summer. The location is also fabulous, and yes, I was tempted to give them 5 stars just for being located next to Mamak Corner and only a short walk from Mandoo. This is my first taste of city living (in Adelaide) and I could get used to this. The rooms themselves are pretty small. Not impossibly tiny small, you could fit a single mattress on the floor if you were having a sleepover, but not much else. The range of crockery & cutlery also isn't quite as snazzy as they show you in the show apartment. The only real downers would be that wireless internet can be pretty darn slow, and it'll cost you $4 every time you need to wash & dry some clothes. There are activities daily, and they get plenty of deals to pass onto students. Like I said, I've been here a week. I doubt my rating will go down during my 1 year stint, but there's every possibility it will go up once I discover more things to do.
I hope this helps people who are looking for accommodations. DON'T STAY IN URBANEST. It í…read moreridiculously expensive, and not worth your money. The rooms are tiny, the kitchen is tiny, the bathroom is smaller than a normal closet. The closet is around the size of a cupboard. Don't let the pictures fool you. The rooms and windows are smaller in real life. You can't really cook in the kitchen. The utensils they give you are not enough. The bathroom's sink and shower doesn't drain properly. Worst of all, they have a 15GB cap on wifi. You have to pay more to use more. The internet add-on prices are very expensive. They want to make money off of students. Another thing, they subtract the amount of internet you use incorrectly so that no matter how much you try to limit your wifi usage, you would have to buy more data around the end of the month. The staff here are not friendly. They will appear as super friendly and helpful during the first few days, but their attitudes change after the first week. They change from happy friendly to condescending very quickly. Doing laundry here is a nightmare. They only have a few washers and dryers. Washing costs $4 per load. Same goes for drying. The dryers leave my clothes damp, and they are still damp after the second drying. Overall, if I could choose, I would not live at urbanest. It's not worth the money that I spent. The only reason why I'm living here now is because my school wouldn't let me live independently. If you're thinking about moving in to urbanest, please consider independent or shared housing. You would save a lot more money and avoid the hassle, anger, and disappointment.

There was no way to contact them out of hours, their number didn't go through, they didn't respond to emails. My belongings arrived damaged, chips out of numerous bits of furniture, plastic tubs in pieces, boxes torn open and squashed. Not all my belongings arrived and I was offered someone else's paintings. The removalists were very unprofessional and had no idea what they were doing, putting boxes of books onto lighter boxes and wondering why they were getting damaged.

Okay Mister Minit offers so much more than just locksmith services (mainly key cutting). They also…read moredo shoe repairs, engraving, watch services and have a large range of car keys as well as remotes. In some instances they can actually program them for you as well at a much cheaper price than the car dealers will charge you. They can let you know if they can do it or not when you go in. Basically we got a spare key for a car we purchased that only came with one key for a much cheaper price. It could not be configured to open the central locking however it works fine to use the key to open the doors and most inportantly, starts the car faultlessly. Plus the kiosk here is right as you come up on the travellator from the underground car park so convenient to just drop the keys, watch, whatever, off on your way in, go do your shopping and pick it up on the way out. And this little kiosk, believe it or not, actually stocks a lot more shoe care products than other places. Like waterproofing spray (one of my favourite items) and all the polishers and cleaners and even shoe horns (which are really hard to find). The man at this kiosk gave us great service when we went in and was very honest about what could or could not be done and the cost somparisons of each.

The store is centrally located just off South Rd and being off the main rd has plenty of on street parking. Like any second hand furniture store it is not the most organised of establishments and there doesn't seem to be any particular order. However, unlike others I found the quality of the furniture to be a lot better. There was complete lounge suites with matching couches and/or armchairs which at around $300-$400 is still better value than anything you could find brand new. The dining section was particularly impressive with some beautiful looking ample sized table sets, some which almost looked brand new. The staff were not rays of sunshine but did ask us if we needed any help or assistance with looking for a particular item.

The first thing that I have learnt through buying my first home is that there is a lot paperwork involved. Wow is it daunting. I am very glad that we can go to the professionals to get transfers of title and registrations completed. It is so important to find a good conveyancer to get the job done and also to look after your best interests through the process. A good conveyancer will ensure that everyone is doing their job; the bank, agent and the owner's conveyancer. They are like your mascot and leader through this process. After asking all of my friends who to go to for my conveyancing I was recommended to go see Michael at O'Loughlins Lawyers. I made a quick enquiry over the phone and was so delighted as he was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He offered me a great price for his services, so I decided to entrust him with my first house purchase. Now, I can tell you, if it was not for Michael I think that the whole experience would have been so much more stressful. Michael constantly kept me in the loop of each stage. At any time I had a question, he was happy to answer it. He ensured that the Bank did their calculations correctly; that the agent was on top of all the paperwork. He made sure everyone did what they needed to do on time. Wow, it was like a weight was taken from my shoulders! I am so impressed and grateful for his hard work; I thought it was so important to share my experience here on Yelp. That way when you find a house you know a great conveyancer in Adelaide. Now that all the paperwork is complete, I feel so relieved and I can focus on getting into my new home! Thank you so much Michael for all your help!
