I have two boys and this place has been great to sell their clothes no longer needed. The process is smooth, you bring them in a bag (I use those large canvas bags) and drop them at the counter, you complete a small sheet of your info and then you wait while they JUDGE YOUR CLOTHES ! Im kidding but only a little. I shop for my guys in footlocker, polo, zara, gap, old navy, and bloomys usually so the brads I tend to give are good. Usually I do one large bag at a time and I am out within an hour. I do wish the return was greater. They usually take about 85 percent of what I bring in and i get about 30-40 bucks back. I actually do it because i still love their clothes and want them to live on, I also like the business and people, and lastly the money is always good for a nice linch or starbucks reload. Totally worth a try, super easy and gives another family a chance at some great pieces without the price tag. read more

I love this place! As a grandma with 4 grandchildren, I have been able to find high level clothes for all of them. The clothing is mixed quality which allows for many different character shirts as well as designer dresses, sweaters, and pants. In fact, my daughter has been told that my grand-daughter is one of the best dressed children in the school. The staff goes over and above to help you find things you may like. Great selection of baby items and kid clothes. Baby gates, strollers, tons of shorts and t shirts.

Prices are good. Sales are good. You just have to look closely at the clothes. More than a few are stained or have pulls. Not always in the best condition. They also have a good rewards program. read more

Convenient location not far from 80. The staff was very courteous (which counts for alot) however, the store was not up to par in my opinion. There was a good selection for such a small store, but the quality of the clothing was lacking for me and the value vs the prices were a little off. read more

Mixed feelings here about Once Upon A Child as a whole. Firstly I am not/have never been a big fan of thrifting. Probably comes from spending many Saturdays as a child with my Great Grandma, Grandma, and Grandma's sister being trekked around consignment & thrift stores (Red, White, & Blue in Paterson, NJ/Salvation Army, Paterson & Clifton circa 87 to 93). So many damn corduroys and tweeds ugggg! But why? It's summer. Sorry bad flashback. My spouse on the other hand loves thrifting and re-purposing and garage sales. So she's come back with some great things at times for the kids so I peak in every year or so at the store. They have 2 locations. Fairfield, NJ and Randolph, NJ. In short: Fairfield: Employees are DMV/TSA/Post Office hybrids in regards to mannerism. Yet the quality and care they put into the clothing before they begin tagging for purchase is great. Majority of items are lightly used and a lot still new with original tags. Randolph: Employees are North Pole Elves/Mrs. Crabtree/Doubtfire hybrids. Just super kind and sweet. BUT the clothes look like they came right out of the hamper or the trunk of an old chevelle rolling around in the back with a tire and a milk crate. Just dingy a lot of them were. Also Summer items are already being replaced with fall. Probably just my timing being off so no fault of theirs. And the shoes.... so sad. I looked in 2 bins and these shoes looked more for donation than resale. They did not even bother to wash or hose them. Looks like they take it right from the seller, no prep, and tag for new buyer. Has to be some better QA than that. I found some ok things but I really had to get granular and dig through. I will let the misses enjoy the thrifting side of things from here on and stay in my lane.... read more

I don't get all the bad reviews. I hope people understand that when they get offended and swear they'd rather give stuff away than sell here they're literally supporting another business like goodwill, etc and making zero $$ in the process. All those other non profits put insane prices on all the things they got FOR FREE. Once upon a child franchise is also creating jobs and helping out families who need cheap stuff. Yeah a lot of times workers could be nicer but they are working for minimal wage, anyway that's something to take up with the manager. I will be bringing a big bag for them to go through and be happy with whatever I get, still better than literally nothing. read more

We drove over an hour with toys from my childhood. My mom called before we got there and they said it was alright to bring them in to be looked at. They demand us to bring every single toy inside to be looked at . Once we did they took two seconds and said these are to old for us we want toys from the last 5 years . Really disappointed with this location. It was messy. Every costume I picked up was ripped or stained. the same with the coats I was looking at - they either had bleach marks or holes. The shoe selection was truly awful. I picked one pair that I thought was okay until I got to the register and got a better look- they were clearly chewed on by a dog !!! Teeth marks all over them. The clerk not only belittled my reaction, pretending she didn't see the 9 holes in 1 shoe - then she insinuated that we were trying to steal the bows that were in my daughters hair .... they were hers. The Fairfield location is further from me, but I won't waste my time coming back to this location. read more

Made an appointment to sell, was told I couldn't leave while my stuff was there. Wandered the store for an hour and a half waiting to be called. No one ever did. Finally I went up to the front and they said my stuff had been looked through a while ago. They took 40 items out of 3 loaded bins and gave me $30... Didn't show or tell me what they even bought so I'm assuming they paid me merely cents for some of them. Left with 3 heavy bins, don't feel they even really looked through, and why couldn't they tell me they were done?!? Total waste of time :( read more

Used to love this place.... so this store opened in 2014 just as I had my first kid. Loved the high quality, selection and prices! I sold some items as well and did fairly well. Now I have three kids and honestly won't waste my time driving there unless I literally pass it. They are super picky about what they buy from customers but then you see low quality on the floor. It's almost like their staff donated their kids stuff? Not quite sure. For a family with 3 kids I am def looking for deals but quality! Also their shoes have become gross! I used to get such nice pairs there and recently the bins are unorganized and smell!! Wish they could revamp to how they used to be! read more

I went to this store today in hope of selling a brand New Old Navy girls denim Jacket with price tag $29.99 on it and a beautiful excellent condition girls GUESS dress coat with leather trim. I originally paid $100.00 for coat and only used 4 months. They offered me $5.00 and change. I couldn't believe the price. I looked around and saw UGG boots that looked worn and filthy an clothes all over place and floor. Halloween costumes on a rack all torn. What a junk place. I would never try to sell anything there and never purchase anything there. I would give the coats away first then get ripped off. read more

Zero stars if it was an option. I called a week ago to make an appointment to bring stuff in to sell, on the phone the girl was very nice but was apparently useless - she told me everything but the terms to things they do/don't accept. They do not accept certain equipment if they already have enough In the store, although the girl on the phone told me the amount of equipment I could bring in was unlimited, that as long as all of the pieces were they and in good shape they'd take it. She told me they allow four bins/boxes/containers of clothes - forgetting to mention they do not accept onesies under the size 9months and they do not accept sweaters or pants unless they come as a set. Granted, some outfits do come as sets but that is not always the case. I was not told that they do not accept play gyms, what Children's store is unable to sell play gyms? They took a third of a box out of the four boxes I came with. The trip was pointless even after asking the girl on the phone if there were any important things I needed to know because I am coming all the way from Piscataway (a 55 minute drive). Extremely disappointed and will not be going back. read more

Love this location, there is always tons of things to choose from. We go in often with two growing little ones, the owner has always been there when we are there, he's great! Really nice and helping, patient since I'm normally toting two kids around, and we dare definitely just a mess. But, we always leave with heaping piles of clothes, and a couple new toys too because they're always priced so well! This store has been a literal lifesaver for our wallet. Kids grow so quick, and out grow clothes before things even get a chance to be worn often, it's more cost effective to buy this way, I remove tags and immediately wash them, and everyone is happy (: read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Called ahead of time and was told that they would take "gently used items" and only "sets", so I gathered some of my daughters closed including a swing that was gently used and almost in perfect condition considering she only used it for a few months. They denied half of my clothes with no reason, as the associate who "examined" the items packed up and left no explanation for the day. I was later told by another rep that the only reason they would deny making an offer was if the clothes were damaged or stained. I simply replied that it was odd that that's the reason considering some of the clothes they denied were brand new with tags including a pair of shoes still on shoe hanger with price tag on it. I proceeded to examine the clothes/items they had for sale and some were in terrible condition, shoes with worn out and black soles and clothes that looked like they were more then just "gently used". If they had just said they weren't in need of that type of clothing or items, that would be a sufficient answer, but you mean to tell me that of the $300+ of clothing they wanted to offer me $15.50 for 22 complete outfits, I took my goods and left. For that I might as well donate the items to my local church to people who actually need it. Not to mention the children's swings, activity chairs etc, most were in worse condition then what I was trying to sell them. Hands down worse service EVER!!! They deserve no stars but I'm giving them the courtesy of one because the woman I spoke to on the phone, although not quite accurate in her statements, was very pleasant. read more

I don't know why there is a negative review. I've been to other stores similar to once upon a child and this one is by far the best. It's actually CLEAN and so are their products. It was nice that I didn't need to pick through dirty "used" looking clothing. In fact, I bought several gifts for friends since a lot of their clothes had new tags on them and were at least in style, unlike other stores I've been to. For the poor review, have some common sense-they are picky for a reason and their store shows it.
