The Schoenstatt Shrine is perched upon a beautiful hill overlooking parts of Austin. Coming from the flatlands of Houston, TX, I was in awe of the gorgeous sight! When I'm in need of some peace and silence, I head straight to the shrine. Sitting on the steps of the shrine and looking out at the beautiful view, I can't help but smile at how God's creations can be so magnificently indescribable. The first time I came to the shrine, it was for adoration. I've been to adoration many times at different parishes, but nothing compares to my experience at the shrine. I enjoy being able to close me eyes and feel the wind with the shrine doors opened. It helps me to be at peace and makes me feel as if it's just Jesus and I there in the chapel. Not only are the adoration events spiritually refreshing, but so are the Sunday masses at 11am! Every week you can celebrate mass outdoors with some of the most inspiring and genuine people! The shrine is a place to spend time with Mother Mary, a place for reflection and a place to celebrate the goodness of God. The shrine is a home away from heaven!

I'd been looking for a parish for a few weeks and, after visiting 5 or 6 others, St. Theresa's was the first parish where someone actually shook my hand and introduced themselves - and on a Monday morning, no less! Although St. Theresa's parish body and I don't agree on everything, they are compassionate and have made it a point to meet me where I am. Now I am more involved in the parish than I ever thought I could be. I didn't give 5/5 because the parish body is largely uniform. As a young, unmarried, childfree person with tattoos I very much stand out. The vast majority of parishioners are white, upper-middle class, self-admitted WASPish families.
