Dorothy Lay Hospice was such an incredible help for us. We as a family were very hesitant about…read moreplacing my dad anywhere other then a hospital. My dad was at his last few days and could no longer be at home because of pain (he was sick because of cancer). The wonderful doctors, nurses, personal support workers, & volunteers all made such a dedicated effort to make sure my dad was comfortable and in no pain. Along side the patients bed, there is a window nook area where guests can sleep, a pull out sofa for another guest to sleep, as well as two extra chairs in the room. For entertainment of the patient and family members there's a TV with hundreds of channels. Within the hospice there's also two different kitchens, living rooms, a library downstairs, a spa area (never used it because my father was very ill and slept day in day out). When you arrive to Dorothy Lay by ambulance they place your family member right in their room. There are only 10 rooms in the Dorothy Lay hospice and we were told by many people that it was a blessing from God to not be put on the wait list. After getting placed we completed paperwork for my father & the nurses gave medication. They check on patients every hour, even throughout the night.! It was an extremely difficult time in our lives but we're so blessed to have had the opportunity to go through DLH.

They would frequently submit the claims incorrectly to the insurance company and then hassle me about it. (Insurance would mail me the forms when they weren't filled out correctly and then I would have to fax them to the dentist for them to fix.) Other times they would say it didn't go through electronically so they would tell me what I owed later, only to hear nothing from them for months and then get a nasty letter in the mail saying I owed them $$S immediately. Payment just always seemed like a big back and forth process. (so much simpler with my new dentist!) Last straw for me was, after being a patient for almost 5 years, I show up 10min late once and was treated extremely rudely and told I would only get half a cleaning. They made no offer to reschedule the rest of the cleaning and I never went back.

In 2012 or 2013, I was experiencing severe pain in my lower back. I expected to have these spasms…read moreabout twice every year and it took about six weeks to calm down and make life bearable again. On this particular occasion, it wasn't showing much improvement over the six weeks and I was desperate for relief. I found Back Clinics of Canada on the internet and scheduled a free consultation, bringing my X-rays with me. I met Ron who explained in detail what was going on and how he could help over 20 sessions. I agreed to move ahead on the spot though it was not inexpensive. However, life without a functioning back is no fun at all so I rationalized it as an investment in myself and my future happiness.. The first three 22 minute session were noticeably painful but by the time I left the clinic I was no longer in pain. By session six I could feel a real improvement and I looked thereafter forward to each session. It was fun to talk with other patients while in the heating area and to hear about and see their progress as well. Almost everyone I spoke with had a similar experience as mine, real improvement after half a dozen sessions. After session 20 I was given some exercises to do. I did some but not all of them but I also did older back exercises that I was familiar with. The long and short is that it is now six or seven years later and I have not had a single lasting spasm during that time. Occasionally I overdo things and my back will hurt for a day but I've never been close to the situation I was in for many years before doing the program. The exercises are key and I believe they've helped me strengthen my back to the point where I won't have severe back pain again. So while the program is not for everyone and is costly, it's a great option for those who don't know what to do next. Surgery is something I would never want to have and knowing there is an option that can actually reverse back pain and keep it that way, is something I am truly grateful for. That's my story and every word is true.

I was so nervous and afraid and they listened to me and explained the entire process without making it sound completely terrifying. I felt totally taken care of and listened to! You are assigned a counsellor who is with you the whole time. My counsellor was caring, funny and put me completely at ease. She held my hand through the procedure and helped me with breathing and relaxing. The Doctor & nurses were very good and made sure I was comfortable. I was surprised at how gentle the doctor was and how little the procedure hurt! For what it was, I couldn't recommend a better place to go. These women are ANGELS and I am so so so thankful for them and for what they do every day!!!!
