May 18th. Wednesday. 10:00am. As I mentioned this place…read morewould not be seen had it not been for the tables and chairs set up out on the foot path. It's excellent with walk in space after entering and the inside tables show off comfortable seating. (I did wonder if the small steps at the entry might be considered unfriendly to the disabled or mommy pram?) It was quiet and only two other people inside. I ordered a lemongrass tea and scrambled eggs on sourdough rye. First thing, I certainly love tea and have an affinity for even the most unloved types of tea, but... The cup that came with the tea just doesn't work for proper appreciation! The cup should be a proper tea cup... At least a mug! Instead I was given a 2inch tall 1inch wide glass cup that was difficult to pick up once I wanted to sip my tea cause it had no handle and was hot. And finally the presentation of my breakfast reminded me of home economics class... When you first learn to make a dish you worry about how it looks on the plate so it somewhat looks as if it has invisible walls keeping it at bay from each other on the plate... That's what it represented. I feel that the eggs should have been on the toast, but since I wanted butter it was left off the toasted sourdough and put on the side. I thought most restaurants here in Melbourne would put the butter on the toast (if it's sourdough) and then put the eggs of choice on that toast. I normally order scrambled and I feel I know scrambled eggs best. These scrambled eggs were a touch runny and not as firm as I feel they should be. Overall, the inside set up, service, and spacious room makes for a place I'd go back to for maybe a coffee instead of hot tea and salad (since there is so many choices at the counter in the display) instead of scrambled eggs on sourdough toast.

On the pricey end for a sandwich but well worth it. Beautiful sandwich arrived - pictured - with a side of pickle and a scoop of patato salad with dill and caper. The pastrami was the proper stuff - think Jewish style corned beef. Red kraut has perfect vinegary texture and was crunchy and magnificent. The sandwich was juicy and oozing with piquant Dijon. After a sandwich like this for lunch, no dinner is required! Nice fitout here if you want to sit in, and they do takeaway too. The sandwich was $18 and that they do catering as well as take away. 3.9

My French-Portuguese roommate, Davide, found employment here and once I learned they have a steak sandwich I told him I'd come by. Glad I did. The steak sandwich is an off menu offering but likely is a regular staple. Not your usual steak sandwich on French bread or a baguette but toasted white. So rich in flavour and ingredients. Simple, but big in bite. The potatoes were buttery and when Thomas, the owner, came to introduce himself I asked about the butter and he said, "butter, of course!" I'm pretty sure there was a not so overpowering, but rich, horseradish that was a nice compliment. Aside from the lunch I ordered some desserts to take home. An Anzac biscuit, banana bread, chocolate and mini mallow. All worth the try. The shop is small and that's appealing. Clean, inviting, and friendly staff. They knew about my visit and we chatted and it was a pleasure. I hope this review reaches some and creates foot traffic. I'm definitely returning during my time. Only drawback for me was having no Coke, just Coke Zero.

Instant drool fest ensues. This lovely little cart in the middle of Prahran market had quite a gathering of cheese lovers gathered around. Not hard to see why! Choose from 3 grilled cheese toasties (Fondue, pimento and American), raclette (meat or vego specials of the day) or on the weekend the special pasta tossed in the giant cheese wheel before serving. Opted for the fondue grilled cheese toasty ($11): oozy and garlicky, instant cholesterol booster. Added a little chilli oil to mine and it really took it to another level of amazing. Also got a raclette ($13)- vegie one for the day was with Shitake mushrooms and potatoes. DELICIOUS!!! Arteries must be congealing but totally worth it. Pimp up your cheesy goodness with the selection of hot sauces or chilli oil to your liking. Also: payment by card accepted - a definite PLUS given so many food stalls in the market are cash only. Definitely worth a visit, and will be coming back soon!!!

I must be honest and say I was a bit iffy about going to a milk bar for brunch. I enjoyed the rustic decoration and laid back environment as I sipped on my chai latte that was perfectly made to suit my taste buds as the rest of the group enjoyed their coffees. For grubb we feasted on the homemade sausage roll, middle eastern eggs with bacon and a chicken wrap. Everyone enjoyed their meals and agreed we would come back to visit again. We then trotted off to find some nerf guns to rid us of the tranquility and energy we had gained from the visit to the Milk Bar.

I wasn't in the best headspace when I went in there, rushing between open for inspections I was after a coffee and something to eat (take away) quickly. So I ordered one of their prepared sandwiches with the intention that it should only take a couple of minutes. Sadly I'd finished my coffee before my sandwich was even ready. This is the type of place that you need to be slow. Enjoy the beautiful looking (and tasting) food on offer. Don't do what I did and rush in rush out. Laze over the paper and enjoy your brunch. I'll be back to do just that.
