So glad we did! We walked into the visitor center and had no issues booking a tour. We took a causal stroll around the grounds before heading to the beautiful mansion. There we had Kit show us around the house and gave us the history of the Rowan family, who owned built the house in 1795. She was so kind and informative! You learn about the Rowan's and their cousin, Stephen Foster, who was inspired by the house for his song " My Old Kentucky Home." We appreciated that they also include the history and stories of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the grounds. This is a must visit when in Kentucky!

We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

I had to Google it to find the real name. Located directly behind Bardstown old jailhouse which is now jailhouse inn a bee and breakfast joint. If you follow the ally next to the inn you will walk right into this place. Very small but beautiful landscaping and who knows how old some of these graves are. Most of them have no names or writing on them at all and they are spread out in a random and sporadic order. Overall this is a really neat and fun discovery that's just another hidden gem on the historic Bardstown Kentucky downtown area.

It sits beautifully and gigantically on the middle of a roundabout with several shoppes and places to eat surrounding this. Even as a kid when visiting my old Kentucky home the thing I remembered most was the "big building that had a circle around it". Just makes it shout that it's important. Note city halls should do that. Defiantly hard to miss. From what I could gather this mainly serves as the welcoming center now but still has some branches of government work held here. The outside is beautiful with plenty of places to sit and a couple cool monuments to Bardstown heroes and famous alumni. Overall I still love driving by or around this building. Very cool site to see and I look how I can go inside it now that it's a visitors center. Cool piece of Kentucky history and architecture here.

If you go to the massive center piece bardstown welcome center (former city hall) and walk across the street to where lt John Fitch memorial/grave is. There is a bush behind that monument, walk behind that bush and you will find this cool and unique piece of Bardstown history. I had no idea the first steamboats affiliation with the state of Kentucky or the city or bardstown so this was a cool find that makes for fun and good photo ops.

He survived Pork Chop Hill in Korea and Ia Drang in Vietnam, where his bravery and selflessness led to his being played by Mel Gibson in the 2002 film, "We Were Soldiers," based off a book written by Moore, "We Were Soldiers Once,...And Young." Moore was a 1945 graduate of West Point who had fought in Korea before he was sent to Vietnam in 1965 as commander of a battalion of the 7th Cavalry. The Battle of Ia Drang, in 1965, was the first major U.S. engagement of North Vietnamese Army troops. The 43-year-old lieutenant colonel, saved the lives of most of his men despite being greatly outnumbered (10 to 1) by the NVA. Before the Battle of la Drang was over, 305 Americans had been killed along with an estimated 2,000 North Vietnamese troops. American officials declared the Battle of the la Drang Valley a victory.
