One Step Beyond is a program that began as an idea born in the heart of a mother, that her daughter deserved more than what society was currently offering. She also believed that this was something bigger than her and her daughter and wanted to make this idea, dream, and hope a reality for as many individuals that make up this amazing population of adults as possible. With the help of dedicated individuals OSBI became that reality and has been able to expand not just in numbers and locations and opportunities but grown and cultivated growth in the hearts, minds and lives of the members it serves. The members that attend feel at home and comfortable when they are there. Many of the original group of members from 15 years ago when OSBI began, still attend and are proud of be a part of that. They love deeply and fiercely and if you are blessed to build relationships with them you have received a priceless gift that is more precious than you can imagine. The staff that work at One Step are some of the finest group of people I have ever met. This is not simply a job to them, they recognize the great responsibility and privilege it is to participate in coming alongside of the members and helping them be the best they can be. They have built relationships, they have built trust, they build confidence and self reliance and so much more. It is easy to see it in their faces and actions that they really love making a difference. My son has been attending One Step Beyond for 5 years. This program has given him opportunities that have been invaluable and I can't believe the progress he has made since attending One Step. His social skills have improved dramatically. I believe this is due to the positive social opportunities he is given on a daily basis as well as his participation in the vocation and music programs. Through the vocation program, my son has received the training and skills necessary to work and he now works 3 days a week in the community with the assistance of his job coach from One Step. This has boosted his confidence tremendously. Through the music program he is given the freedom and encouragement to be creative and express himself. This has allowed him to develop positive coping skills as well as communication skills. Overall, our experience with the Coordinators, Directors, and Direct Support Staff has been wonderful. My son receives encouragement and positive reinforcement from the employees. When I have had a concern or a suggestion, I feel that I have been heard and that my concerns or suggestions have been addressed. Will not take anyone who is very much disabled. They have to be able to be on their own completely all day and do what the place says WHEN they say it. Mostly just sitting around collecting govt. money it looked like. TOO big and TOO many people around doing nothing. The internet looks great but it was horrible. They seem nice and looked good until our son tried it. THey called after 15 minutes before we even got home out of breath freaking out that we needed to come get him because he was running around and they couldn't have that he would not sit and wait for an activity at 10am! THis was at 8am! WOW, I wouldn't wait either. THey know nothing and do not care about the handicapped. TERRIBLE. I'd give it negative if I could. read more

This is an amazing program.I retired from the Dysart school district 5 years ago.It was the one and only program I applied at. I knew it was where I wanted to work. I have worked at One Step Beyond for the past 5 years.It brings joy into my life each and everyday.The members are amazing . I have worked at One Step Beyond for 9 years now. I enjoy the people i work with along with the growth and direction One Step is heading. This program offers a lot of different opportunities for growth and independence for the members as well. I agree this field can be challenging for some people and its not for everyone but One Step does not compare to other day programs due to the services it provides. Wonderful place for adults with developmental disabilities. Their day program offers life skills classes, recreational classes, music & dance classes, bowling, weekly outings, culinary classes, and classes that teach you to work and take you to work. It's a place for adults to make friends, build healthy relationships, and learn a lot. They take pride in keeping their members safe and always being there for them! This is a wonderful program for those individuals with intellectual disabilities. They offer many programs like art, music, continuing education, dance, and job readiness in culinary ANF vocational. They strive to make the individual as independent as possible. Give them a look and you'll be amazed. They also have an accredited catering program that serves up some awesome food made to the client's wishes. read more

This is a really special place. I have seen firsthand the work that they do for adults with intellectual disabilities in our community and it inspires me.
