Was told by a local this is the best pizza in town and it lived up to billing. They do not take reservations and are often packed, but worth the wait. 1) Order the small salad. It is massive and can feed 3 to 4. 2) The toppings mix will be unusual to Americans, so we took basic margherita pizza and added salami and mushrooms. Salami just like pepperoni. I think there was maybe 3 people running the entire restaurant. Clearly they want you to enjoy your meal and they are in no rush to flip tables. Onkel Tom's is a great spot if you're craving good pizza in Grindelwald! We ordered their 9.4-inch thin-crust pizzas--the Funghi and the one topped with sheep sausage and figs (or pears depending on the season). Both were absolutely delicious! The crust was thin and nicely crisp, while the toppings were flavorful and well balanced. The sheep sausage with the fruit was a particularly fun combination. We paired the pizzas with a Swiss amber beer on tap, which was nice and crisp and perfect after a hot summer hike. At around $20 for a 9.4-inch pizza, it is definitely on the expensive side, but this is Switzerland, and given the quality, I thought it was reasonable. We stopped by for an early dinner after our hike and got seated immediately indoors, although there was already a wait for outdoor seating. The restaurant gets busy around dinner, so I'd recommend making a reservation or putting your name down and coming back later. Service was good. The restaurant has a nice, inviting atmosphere, with plenty of outdoor seating and some indoor tables. This place is worth standing in line for at 4:30pm to get a table. It's extraordinary and one of our favorite memories from our whole 5 night stay in Grindlewald. Must eat if you are visiting the area. Better than our 5 star dinners the nights previous. The drinks were amazing. The slow speed was divine. 2.5 hours was our dinner and our activity for the night. Would have loved to try to pizza. Went here later in evening. Came in 8:50 pm but were told that the kitchen was closed ( officially they do it at 9pm). Tried to come back for lunch the following day at 1:50 pm with exactly the same results. In both instances the hostess was kinda "I don't give a damn" rude. Won't go back to try a third time. Love this place. So quaint and cozy. The lines can get long at times because it is popular. The pizzas were delicious. Not the classic neopolitan style but still thin and crispy crust. Tried the Funghi and the Sotto Voce. They actually tasted pretty similar, I'm guessing because they have the same sauce and same cheese. Both were excellent, hard to pick which I liked better. Recommendation by a local and definitley worth it. The "waiting space" fits 3 people and if you go in the busy season it WILL be a full house. My party was just 2 people and we waited over an hour. This was our favorite spot in the Grindelwald area without a doubt! We stayed just down the street and it was our first time to Switzerland. We came to the Hütte in our 2nd night and we loved it! Family owned and we felt at home. Nestled in between beautiful mountains we got to sit outside. Our waiter was helpful in suggestions and friendly. We both got a pizza and it was so delicious. Despite the unusual restaurant name (Uncle Tom's Cabin), the pizza was absolutely outstanding. The service was a quite slow for my American patience. We were there for 2 hours which should've been just 1 hour. The wait for the pizza was almost an hour. The wait for the bill was 1/2 hour. read more

Both times we waited 15-20 minutes in a tiny cramped hallway only to be told the first night that we had to put our name on a list for a possible table in an hour and on the second night that their list was completely full. Such a Delicious restaurant! We were on our way to the First Cliff Walk and happened to find this place on Google maps. Thank goodness! It's fairly difficult to find a reasonably priced restaurant anywhere in Switzerland, so to find this place was a complete shock to us. We arrived about an hour before their lunch session was over. There was only about three other parties at the venue, so the seating was pretty open. Since we visited during the winter season we were wearing our heavy winter jackets, but luckily they have coat racks to hang your items. The hostess, who was also our server, was very sweet and accommodating. She provided us with an English menu and answered any of our questions in regards to the food or drinks. Our food came out within 15 minutes and oh man was it delicious! If you love thin and crispy pizza, then this restaurant will be your obsession. Every ingredient on this pizza tasted fresh and the spicy oil served alongside gave the pizza a wonderful kick. We spent roughly about 36 francs for the medium Pizza along with a beer and alcoholic cider (which is a pricey compared to U.S. pricing, but definitely reasonable compared to local pricing). Ah, the delicious smell of fresh pizza makes you wanna sit there all day long. We visited Onkel Tom's on a cold evening. We were seated immediately by a very friendly staff member (I believe she's a owner). We had a great conversation with her. We ordered Rustica Pizza and oh my God, it was to die for! I have never had this delicious pizza in my entire life. The pizza had a very thin crust cooked in a wood fired oven. I would rate this pizza million times better than what we have in United States. Traveling through Switzerland we tripped upon this quaint pizzeria. The owner, is hands on, has been in business 25 years. Only about 6 tables inside and 6 tables outside. Great wine and beer list. We shared an Onkle Tom's small salad, this was very good, we have been missing a good salad since leaving the stated, we then shared a medium 1/2 Rustica and 1/2 with the figs and spicy goat sausage. What an incredible experience!!! The smell immediately upon walking in was amazing. It was small and decorated very nicely for christmas. We were greeted with a warm smile by the server. She was so incredibly friendly and was responsible for the entire restaurant, we were amazed! She was very helpful with recommendations and explained each type of wine and pizza. Had the small Buffalo cheese platter that was amazing perfect for one or two people. Then I got a pizza and went to pizza it was this is the first time I think I've ever cut pizza with a fork and knife and I loved it. Wow. This was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Very fresh ingredients, sauce was perfectly flavored and they have a wide variety of pizza flavor options. This quaint place had minimal seating but we were luckily enough to find two seats joking another's table, however well worth it if you have to wait. They are closed from 2-4pm so pay attention to clock. The service was phenomenal and the atmosphere was super cute. I'd eat here every meal if it were possible. This is a great place located centrally on the main drag of Grindlewald. It is frequented by both tourists and the locals. The service was exceptionally friendly. The menu had a nice selection of salads and just pizza for the mains. The pizza itself has a very thin crust cooked in a woodfired oven. I recommend the Palermo pizza and the mixed salad. They also make their cakes in house for dessert. I enjoyed sitting outside on the porch. If you are lucky the local regular Gunther will be there enjoying his wine to chat with. read more

my husband and i just came back home (nyc) from a lovely trip to switzerland. During our stay i particularly wasn't fond of the food choices especially in Grindlewald. Being that it is such a small town, you aren't left with a variety of choices. Just your traditional german/ Swiss german food. However when we came upon Onkel Toms, we struck gold. So much that we came 3 additional times. The menu is small, but you don't need much more. The salads are AMAZING, its a secret recipe for the dressing, but man is it good. The pizzas are FANTASTIC. The desserts are just as fine and the best part is, the lovely service. We had the times of our lives in Grindelwald , thanks to Onkel Toms.
