I'd say this is a 3.5 star review. I came for a 60 min shiatsu massage and an hour in the private onsen, for $200 (120 for the onsen, 80 massage) The massage was worth every cent. So good, I'd definitely go back for this. The onsen wasn't anything special, except that I live in the city without a bath, but I probably could've paid the same amount for a cheap hotel and had 20 hours in it. It was rather large, but tiled just like a spa at any basic hotels pool, was warm, but stunk like sweat so much I considered walking out early. Fun Fact - if you have a bath as well, they'll give you clothes to put on for your massage. Otherwise wear comfy clothes - shiatsu you keep them all on! read more

Now that I live in an apartment sans bath I am super happy that I have Onsen Ma to come to when I feel the need to have a soak. For starters we immediately slipped our feet into slippers that were provided and then welcomed with Green Tea while we waited for our bath to be ready. We had the private bath which included a dressing room equipped with toiletries and lockers, wash area, sauna and of course the large Japanese bath. The experience was so relaxing that we plan to come here at least once a month in the colder months. I highly recommend Onsen Ma just for the experience alone, or if you are like me and don't have a bath at home - this place is a must. read more

One of the downsides of city living is that you don't usually have a bath tub to soak in which is especially therapeutic in the midst of Melbourne winter. The solution is to find a communal bath house such as this one. There are separate bathing areas for men and women. Each area has, what I call, the scrubbing area with a stool, bucket and assorted soaps, shampoos etc to give yourself a thorough scrub. After this you can then drop in to the ~40C pool and let your worries soak away. There's a sauna room next to the pool with hot dry heat to help in detoxing; follow this by another scrub and then another soak in the hot pool. Rinse and repeat until you are warmed through to your core. The men's pool would hold maybe 8 people before feeling a little crowed and apparently its a little bigger than the other Japanese bath house in Collingwood. Along with a soak you can also get a Shiatsu massage. I never feel particular satisfied with Shiatsu massage but I did appreciate the diagnostic aspect that gave me an insight in to my health after having my pulses taken. You will need to book an appointment if you want a massage otherwise you can just drop in for a bath as needed. For $30 bucks you can enjoy a scrub and soak and even the social aspect of chatting to other while you soak your worries away. read more

Hidden away down Meyers Place is a small door... walk inside this door.. Turn left and head up the stairs. As you do so you might just notice Melbourne slowly slipping away. As you reach the top of the stairs it feels like you are already starting to relax. Things you need to know * There are three baths (His, Hers and a Private Room) * All are all stunningly beautiful. Even just staring at the roof is relaxing! * For the full experience you will need more than an hour (at least a half hour bath and half hour Shiatsu is the only way to go) * You can rush it and just have a bath or a Shiatsu * you will need to take your shoes off at the top of the stairs After having a Shiatsu, I was so relaxed I was almost asleep so I was really quite grateful that someone had the foresight to provide a few nice chillout corners so you can return to the real world at your pace, instead of being thrown out the door. Had a relaxing afternoon at Onsen Ma. Went with a girlfriend. We opted for public bath at 30.00 each instead of the private at 100.00 and we had it to ourselves. Great way to relax and catch up. There's a sauna as well if you want to opt for that too- all inclusive. We also had a hour shiatsu massage each. Lots of little restaurants or bars in the area for a drink or dinner afterwards. The place was beautifully presented, the decor all looked great. I was the first to arrive for the day... So candles and incense was lit awhile after, I could smell it :) I couldn't take the onsen today and only lasted 20 minutes, the bar felt a little slimy tbh. I asked if I could have my shiatsu earlier and the girl called the masseuse, he kindly came in earlier which was really lovely. He asked lots of questions about my health and then got started, it was far more relaxing than I had thought. Despite the constant racket downstairs from construction, he was able to relax my entire body; definitely a pro! He apologised for the noise but it wasn't his fault. I was disappointed they didn't refund any of my money considering I used the onsen for a third of the time and because of the noise. To top it off, there were posters on nearly every wall advertising $98 onsen and shiatsu between 11am and 1pm. I was there at 11am and was charged $120, they was disappointing. read more
