This beach has become my favorite east coast beach. My family and I were here in late November thru mid December and visited this beach almost everyday while we stayed at the Inns. The beach is a short drive from the Inns. The beach is very clean and the beach is beautiful to walk during low tide. During the weekdays we had the beach to ourselves for the most part. There are plenty of parking spaces during the winter time. The weekend definitely had more foot traffic but we had a weekend that was in the 70s. It was so lovely to walk up and down this beach. The sand is great for walking even with shoes on. I look forward to coming back during warmer months in the future. The views here are so calming and peaceful. read more

We stayed in a rustic tiny house. It was perfect for the two of us. It would easily accommodate a family of four. We bought a cheap Walmart grill so we could cook outside and take advantage of the fresh fish markets. Plenty of linens, kitchen had all the basics. Recommend bringing some sharp knives, bought a nice set at px. Nice and close to the beach, easy access. What more could you ask for? How about a quiet air conditioner system. The window and wall units were so noisy you couldn't hear yourself think, let alone sleep. AND INEFFICIENT! Talk about poor stewards of our environment! These need update with quieter, more environmentally friendly units. Would have rated so much higher if the air conditioner unit functioned appropriately. read more

Hands down my favorite beach to date. I have a bit of an obsession with shark teeth. You can only get to this because if you have a military ID card or CAC. This is great for population control. I especially love their bungalows, which have been rebuilt since the hurricane. I would recommend wearing water shoes because sharp object do wash up on the beach. My favorite activity is to track the low tides to go look for shark teeth. You can find them 1 of 2 ways. Either just look up on the sand, or bring a sifter/ shovel and dig in the surf. read more

Fantastic stay here in the LtCol House. Highly recommend. Clean house and comfy furniture. Plenty of space for everyone. Wish there were two bathrooms, but we managed just fine. I came out here for a get together. My first time here!! First of all, the drive there from already being on base was pretty far! I kept thinking to myself "when am I going to get there??" Lol. Once I crossed over that short short bridge, there was an MCX to my left and parking to my right. There was plenty of parking from what I saw. Maybe if you keep driving down, there may be more! I'm not sure since I parked immediately. Walking onto the beach, the sand was very hot! So keep you sandals/flip flops on until you get to the damp areas in the sand. Lol. The view was peaceful! Waves crashing in calmly. The breeze in the air. This is definitely a gem on base. It was very relaxing. I can't wait to go back. Great for family and kids!! Water is pretty shallow. read more

If you're looking for a beach and don't have military base access or know someone who does then this beach is not for you. It's located on Camp Lejeune with quite a bit of a drive from main side. So if you're almost on E on the gas tank fill up because there's no gas station by the beach. They do have a small convenience store with beers and snacks and stuff. The beach is separated from the grill area by a road and sand dunes, so if you're trying to bbq and chill on the beach at the same time, that can't happen. If you have kids the far left area of the beach has calmer waters and is more kid friendly. Don't ask me why or how because I've yet to figure out why the right side has rougher waves than the left. You can also drink on the beach as long as your alcohol is not in a bottle. The place is clean, there's showers there and bathrooms and a fishing area by the bridge or again over on the left side of the beach. It's a great place to hang read more

I love Onslow Beach. I think it is closed now for the pandemic. But some very SAD news. All the on- each cabanas have been removed :( I would stay there every year. Its the only place in the US that i know where you are directly on the beach. Across the street is the cabins which are nice but not on the beach. The storm destroyed most of the cabanas, and it was decided to not rebuild them as they might get destroyed again. But those cabanas were there for years and years. read more

The beach itself is beautiful. It's clean, which means the visitors and faculty take good care of it. There is a small mart, like a gas station with no pumps, literally right next to the beach, which is super convenient if you need to restock on cold water or whatever the case is. There's what gives it two stars. The lifeguards however are the worst lifeguards I've ever encountered. As soon as I walked up and put my stuff down, there was a lifeguard quickly walking up to me about my service dog. I told him she was a PTSD service dog issued to me by the VA, which is all he needs to know. However, he pushed asking me why I need her (exact question "like are you blind?) , and asking for a picture ID, WHICH I AM NOT REQUIRED TO ANSWER OR PROVIDE. Asking me why I have my service dog is the same as asking, "How are you disabled? What's your problem?" You don't do that. I told you she is trained in PTSD tasks (and mobility) that is it. That is all I'm required to show you and tell you. However, he escorts me to my car for some ID, I give him a card from the American Disability Association giving him all the info he needs. Ok, it's done. Then another life guard comes up, and makes me jump through the same hoops. He goes to a third lifeguard, who comes up to me with the card I issued the first one and asks me what tasks my service dog is trained in, I tell him, just like the first guard, and he says that he has a service dog and so he needs to make sure mine is for real a service dog...well, first, where is your service dog? Because they're supposed to accompany you at all times. Second, if you had one you would know hounding a disabled person with a service dog who is just trying to enjoy a day at the beach is the exact opposite of what you should be doing. Horrible horrible horrible. Will not be back ever again, and I am strongly considering filing a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice. read more

For my family this is the best thing about being stationed at Camp Lejeune. This beach is so beautiful and it offers picnic areas, rental houses, an RV Campground and our favorite: off-road access to miles of pristine, unspoiled beaches. For active-duty, retirees or DOD employees, all you need to do is go to the CLJN game warden office and get your FREE off-road permit for your four-wheel-drive vehicle. Then you call the number to make sure the beaches are open. Upon confirming that, pack the cooler, grab the family and head down there. We like to drive until we don't see anyone else, then set up camp for the day. It's so great. If you're not DOD, befriend someone who is, and has a 4x4; not hard in Jacksonville! Remember, max speed is 15mph. Stay away from the dunes. Don't expect to go out there and do donuts and stuff. Note, the beach is often closed for training. Remember, that is the primary purpose of this area. Make sure you call first and check the recording. read more

The actual beach is mediocre. What brings it below mediocracy is the rules. For instance; there is a no breath holding rule. Its basically the beach version of a public pool where you can't even splash. Don't go if you have pets. The pet beach is confined to a small section at the end of the beach before the training area. Go to North Topsail. On the up side there are a lot of life guards; all much more equipped to save a life than your average civilian life guard. It's a great beach for families as well as it is closely monitored. read more

Four days with two dogs. Dog friendly cottages are a mile from the dog friendly portion of the beach. Apparently we were the only ones following that rule. Faucet handles in bathtub had to be wrenched on and off if you wrapped a washcloth around them. No bulb over oven. Vacuum cleaner didn't work had to broom sweep floor. Water heater only held enough water for one shower. One had to wait for tank to fill before another shower. One outlet in the kitchen fun for use of coffee maker, microwave and toaster. People around us super fantastic.... but then we are in USMC country ooh rah!! read more

After eight years of not seeing the ocean (eight years ago being Bondi Beach, NSW, Australia mind you) I ran from the parking lot to the beach like a little kid! I have no regrets. I'm writing this review from a dual perspective. My husband and I just spent Memorial Day weekend with my son and grandkids at Onslow Beach. We rented two units -- an Osprey and a lodge. The Osprey was fantastic -- loads of towels, nicely furnished kitchen with coffee maker, washer and dryer in the unit, loads of options for sleeping (2 queen beds, 2 singles, a fold-out couch), nice clothes closets, huge dining table with 6 chairs (could possibly borrow two more?), air conditioning for the hotter days, partial view of the ocean, just across the road from the beach. It was lovely!! No, there's no dishwasher, but you can always buy paper plates -- or, by chance, have you heard of washing dishes by hand?? Now, in the other extreme, my husband and I had a lodge just down the road from the grandkids. It was cramped (claustrophobic); one normal-size person could barely squeeze down the hallway. A tall person would have bumped his/her head on the celing in certain areas. There were tons of cabinets, but no clothes closet, nor any provisions made for hanging clothes. There were three hooks outside the bathroom, but I presume those were for the towels, since there were no hooks or towel bars in the bathroom. There was no room for them! The kitchen wasn't bad -- had dishes, cookware, dish soap, eating utensils, coffee maker. Although there was a breakfast bar, the "dining table" was a fold-down type stuck in a corner. The loft area (presumably for kids, since there was a ladder to reach the area, was so low that bigger children would not have been able to stand up. There were no beds, only mats on the floor. The air conditioners sounded like jet engines taking off. Both of them stopped working during out stay there. Fortunately, the weather was cool enough that we survived without them. The beach area itself was lovely and clean; the staff at Onslow Beach was friendly and helpful. The neighbors were quiet and considerate. The facility had most anything we needed, even a Marine Mart. We simply took a short drive to the commissary to get the food items and supplies we needed. Be aware, however, that there are no places to eat directly at the site. You have to drive 15 or so minutes to Camp Lejeune eating places -- or go into one of the nearby towns to find "real" restaurants. All in all, the grandkids had a great time playing in the water, while Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed watching the kids and picking up shells. read more
