But what we have discovered is that DTOJ spoiled us. I have participated in dance schools since my daughter who is 35 was 6 years old so I've been in and out of many dance studios. DTOJ and Brea Dance Studios are two of the best ever. One in California and one in North Carolina. But I can say that the one we have tried so far in Virginia have been disappointing. Part of that I believe is because DTOj treated us so well.

The Onslow County Museum is a fantastic museum. The museum is large and more thorough than I ever…read moreimagined so give yourself enough time to explore, especially if you like to read everything. The exhibits are spaced apart so the museum is open and you don't feel like too much is inside. Admission was $2.14 with the sales tax. Parking is free in the parking lot and the museum opens at 8am, Monday through Friday. I didn't get there that early but it was an option. Restrooms are available and they are clean. Before visiting the museum, I had never heard of Richlands, NC. I am working my way through the state museums and this one was just a little detour from my route to my final destination. The museum takes you back to earlier times, when you enter you see the 38 foot long large canoe and just wonder how they got that inside and how it was moved during the time it was used. You can read about all of that on the informational cards. Local history was the focus on the museum and you will learn about everything from healthcare to food to education to the military to transportation to the people who made the county what it was. The children's area has many hands on exhibits about Exploring Mesoamerica: the Maya; Inca and Aztec. I highly recommend visiting this museum.

President's Day weekend had me in Jacksonville with bestie and while doing bestie things…read more(geocaching, eating & laughing) we stumbled across the museum & asked the bestie had she ever been here? Even though bestie is a lifelong Onslow County resident (most of it in Richlands) she had never stopped in. I figured, we had time so why not? It was the best $2.17 I've ever spent. I learned of OC history, some war history, beach history and always my favorite - Women's History. I sensed that they don't get alot of visitors, which makes me sad as museums are the greatest things left to us by the wealthy and talented, and even though it's a small space, we spent about an hour viewing all the works of art, exhibits of things gone past and history of the OC. They even had a little free craft's kit for the artists of our future.

At the end, you can choose to walk around the farm or drive home. During the ride, I was blown away by the amount of unique decorations and Christmas sets they have! The reflections of the lights in the water is gorgeous. There's also speakers and Christmas music throughout. Once you enter Christmas town, there's a fake snow machine! I cannot imagine the time, energy and labor put into creating this magical light show! If you are in the area during Christmas, I highly recommend coming with family and friends!

I happened to be in town for work and had a few hours to kill so I wanted to fit a quick golf…read morelesson in to help me get a head start on the season. I've been golfing for several years and always take a few lessons a year to help get me off on the right foot and stay consistent each season. I called around and found a true diamond in the rough. The head golf pro, Matt, gave me a great lesson at a very good price for a private country club. (You don't need to be a member to take lessons) For those of you new to golf, lessons can be discouraging. You basically have someone telling you that you're doing about 20 things wrong and even when you fix 1 thing you're still doing 19 wrong so you don't always see immediate improvement. Matt kept things very smooth and never once made me feel like I didn't belong as a non-member. He keeps his instruction simple and doesn't incorporate too many changes all at once. In fact, during the course of our 1 hour session he made 3 changes to my swing (stance, hands, release) but did it in a way that didn't overwhelm me with multiple new ideas. Each idea built on the last so there was continuity and thought in each step. Also, his visual aids are simple and easy to understand (I once had a pro in NJ put me in a piece of cardboard with a hole in the middle to understand swing planes...). My final thought is that the lessons are on the full grass driving range which, for me, is a huge plus over a crappy old golf mat. Hitting on grass gives a much more realistic approach than hitting on mats.
