I've been golfing for several years and always take a few lessons a year to help get me off on the right foot and stay consistent each season. I called around and found a true diamond in the rough. The head golf pro, Matt, gave me a great lesson at a very good price for a private country club. (You don't need to be a member to take lessons) For those of you new to golf, lessons can be discouraging. You basically have someone telling you that you're doing about 20 things wrong and even when you fix 1 thing you're still doing 19 wrong so you don't always see immediate improvement. Matt kept things very smooth and never once made me feel like I didn't belong as a non-member. He keeps his instruction simple and doesn't incorporate too many changes all at once. In fact, during the course of our 1 hour session he made 3 changes to my swing (stance, hands, release) but did it in a way that didn't overwhelm me with multiple new ideas. Each idea built on the last so there was continuity and thought in each step. Also, his visual aids are simple and easy to understand (I once had a pro in NJ put me in a piece of cardboard with a hole in the middle to understand swing planes...). My final thought is that the lessons are on the full grass driving range which, for me, is a huge plus over a crappy old golf mat. Hitting on grass gives a much more realistic approach than hitting on mats.

A little ghetto, basically like visiting someone's backyard decorated with lights. So wasn't that impressive. There are two lots of handicap parking. You start at the big tent, where there is a little gift shop in the back, a section where kids can write letters with crayons to Santa and put it in a mailbox, tables where you can sit down and eat, and a bar for alcoholic drinks and where you order pizza. And then you bring your pizza ticket to the woodfired oven station outside to actually get the pizza order started. The staff were nice enough to deliver the pizzas inside the tent, so we didn't have to wait outside in 30° weather. Pizza options were either pepperoni, cheese, or vegetable. About 6 inch diameter size, super small for $10 each, way overpriced. The bottom of the pizza was burnt, otherwise it tasted fine. After we ate, we went outside to walk around to look at the lights. Basically trees covered with lights and face cut out photo props. In the back of the backyard, there were a few fire pits where you can roast marshmallows. Only two of the fire pits were lit. There is a kids maze in the back outside that is basically a path lined up with box like shapes covered with white sheets and Christmas string lights. The coolest part of the kids maze was a door to the Grinch's closet and his hoard of presents. Porta potties were not lit so hard to see inside. They had some nicer porta potties by the entrance that were heated, but the woman's toilet was clogged, filled up to the rim of the toilet. The best part of the whole thing was the Brown Dog coffee company's food truck that was stationed outside of the tent. We got hot chocolate, coffee, and ground coffee beans from Honduras. They have a sticker to put on the hot chocolate mouth opening of the cup to keep it warm. Staff were friendly. I'm still glad we got to check it out so I know now to never come again.
