All these years shopping for clothes at big departmental stores had me forget what a memorable and…read morepersonable experience it used to be growing up when we all had our favourite stores for different kinds of clothing. De Mof has been around for more than 100 years and have preserved the personalised experience for all their patrons. The owner is a nice gentle old man who goes out of his way to find exactly the right fit for you. I went in looking for a new belt and ended up getting extra holes in my current belt along with a new one. They stock a lot of designs and sizes, too. The layout is tasteful and you can see that they have personally designed the interior. There are also 3 fitting rooms inside. I also bought a pair of jeans, and the owner personally followed me with different designs and fits. He also suggested the perfect fits after I tried all of them. This is what service should be - not a bunch of teenagers walking around folding jeans you tried. In the end, I settled with a pair and the owner adjusted the length on the spot. Turns out he's also got a sewing machine for immediate alterations! The cash register is old style and I couldn't see any technology during the check-out process, except for the PIN reader. Even the receipt is handwritten. They have an 8 day return policy, but I doubt I'd be returning my purchase. I sure will go back to buy more, as should you.

This is a great, unique good quality men's shirt shop (they also sell sweaters.)…read moreThe shirts are mostly unique prints and patterns, for example a Van Gogh print or Koi fish. There is a large selection. They also have some polo shirts. The owner was super helpful and friendly. I bought a really cool Pucci-style print shirt and smart striped polo shirt in a deco style. They are open 1-7 everyday!

The Shirt Shop, I always thought was named Shirtz or something because that's what's on the label. Came here years ago after noticing their unique line of dress shirts/party shirts/unique patterned shirts right in front of the window. The shirts are everything from fancy to cool to hip. I got one! Woohoo. I got a Shirtz. Depending on your choice each shirt can cost 100-300+ Euros. Sizing can be limited at times. Meaning Men's 42+ (when I visited, I recalled the sizing for smaller than Men's size 40 was very limited). The boutique store is small in itself, literally just an aisle downstairs. Dressing room is upstairs, the other aisle spaced section, with some more but limited options like shorts, t-shirts, bags, etc... I thought the staff to be quite helpful, answered my questions on refund policy (not that I used it, but nothing wrong with inquiring), stock in sizing and customizing. All in all not a bad experience just to look.

I'm so upset that we don't have Pull & Bear in the US. I follow a ton of European clothing brands…read moreon insta so brand has popped up in my feed a few times before. When roaming around Dam Square for the first time, I made sure to stop in and, of course, didn't leave empty handed. If you're from the US, think of this store as a trendier version on American Eagle with some Brandy Melville vibes. The prices seem to match up too. I was able to purchase a fragrance that I fell in love with at 8€, a belt bag for 10€, and a cute necklace for 4€. Not bad for my first shopping haul in Amsterdam. I think the store itself has 2 floors (I didn't go upstairs) with most of the selection for women based on the first floor. You'll find shoes, accessories, and bath items on the first floor as well.

When I questioned the assistant on why ID was needed for my Visa debit which is PIN protected and a payment with a Maestro does not require ID she blithely shrugged and said that is just how they do it. I informed her that Visa require merchants to accept a properly signed card (which mine is) without ID but there was no attempt made to offer an alternative or at least explain this pointless policy. It wildly confuses me that this is the policy in such a busy part of the city with such heavy international traffic who do not necessarily use the prehistoric Maestro card that the Dutch seem so fond of. I shall not be returning to this store until this invasive policy is changed.
