Beaver Lake has 3 paved hiking trails. All beautiful! Today I tried their Green Trail which is only two miles. The lake seems small but open for fishing. You must have your AL fishing license to fish here. Around the lake there is shade and there are plenty of picnic benches. The area also hosts a Disc Golf Course which seems pretty cool. Next to the lake they have two small playgrounds, trees and from what the signa state no dogs allowed but they are allowed on the trails which is weird because it passes by the lake area so idk. Nevertheless, they do have bags for proper poop disposal. I really enjoyed the lake and the trails around it, I cannot believe no one had ever even put it on yelp. Its pretty awesome!!! The kids enjoyed seeing goats and cows and simply being in nature. We caught a few BIG catfish and I was concerned that larger catfish may taste like mud. WRONG! The catfish tasted like restaurant quality fish and didn't taste like dirt at all. I have been back MANY times since and always have a great time. The Gilbert's are great folks and friends.

We had a fantastic trip with Phil. We launched as soon as we arrived and where fishing in about 45…read moreminutes. I took out myself and four teenage kids on this trip. We stopped to pick up bait out of his pods and saw several sharks swarming around the bait site. These were pretty good sized sharks I will add. It was pretty cool to see. Check out my video! After we collected our bait we headed out. We had to go out to federal waters to fish so we went 10 miles off shore I believe. The first spot we stopped in there were a pod of dolphins hanging out seemingly waiting for us to bring them some fish up for them. Phil said that "this is the worst thing that could happen to us" so we left that area and headed to another. Phil took time to explain what to do to the kids and made sure they were taken care of with bait first. I appreciated his attention to detail and his witty banter with them. When we got to the new spot, he baited us all up and had us all drop to the bottom at the same time. It wasn't two minutes before we were catching fish. One after another we started reeling them up. As we were bringing them up, two of us had sharks come and snatch our catches off of the line. We then bailed on that spot because of the sharks. Arrived at another spot and had the same luck. It's like this man knows exactly where to drop bait to reel up fish fast. Every spot we visited was like this. Phil even communicated with another Captain about the luck we were having and he headed over to our spot to fish. He seemed to appreciate the help and in no time his group was catching fish. They didn't seem to have much luck until Phil called him over. We then moved to a spot to catch Amberjack. We caught a few but they were too small to keep. We caught our limit of Red Snapper after throwing several back, landed a big triggerfish we had to release due to season being over, and caught a few other random fish as well. All in all it was a fantastic trip! Phil and his wife cleaned and cut the fish into nice fillets for us once we hit the beach. What a haul!!! ***HEADS UP*** Here is a note about Greyton Beach though. Sharks are really close to the beach. In fact, as we were pulling up to get on the trailer we saw a 5 ft shark swimming between a group of beach goers. They were completely oblivious to it. It was literally in 3-4 ft deep water probably 20 yards from shore. I feel like the bait traps just off the beach are really attracting them to this area. So come to fish but swim elsewhere. No one wants to be shark food yo!!!

The Navarre Pier is always an exhilarating and gorgeous stop. It does not disappoint…read more We have seen sea turtles and dolphins here. It was my first time ever seeing sea turtles in the wild. Incredible! We frequently see jellyfish floating around. Some days are calm and gentle seas. Another day we witnessed a storm role in. Most recently, the gulf was rocking! Big swells and waves, so reminiscent of the Atlantic. The end of the pier is always busy with fisherman casting lines and families catching together. It's a clear tradition for many people. It's energetic and fun to watch. $1 to walk the pier is worth it. I imagine they use it to maintain the pier because this concrete beast is substantial. Take a walk down the longest pier in the gulf!

Fantastic day out on the water with Captain Nicky…read more 5 of us went out today, caught our limit of redfish, and about 40 more for a busy day on the water!! Nick took us to multiple spots and handled everything. Provided ice for beer, instructions for rookies, help landing the fish, and plenty of photo opportunities! When we got back to the dock he filleted the the fish and got us on our way. He knew where to find fish, kept us busy the entire 4 hour trip... and he is a veteran... support good guys like this!! Don't go to the all out expensive or cheap group boats, Nicky is highly recommend if you thinking of doing any off shore fishing. They had a fantastic trip, catching several kinds of snapper, among other fish. The captain helped with baiting the hooks, but each person had their own pole, and he would encourage each person and give instructions as needed. He also cleaned some of the fish for the group, and we cooked it that very night. We recommend them for a charter if you are in the area!
