I just wanted to let anybody know who was interested in using Operations Paws for Homes what my experience was like. In October of 2014, my Mother passed. In March of 2015 and in June of 2015 each of my two dogs passed. I had been my Mother's caretaker and I was sure that I was ready for another dog after my two dogs died of cancer. For almost a year, I was in touch with Heather who I e-mailed so many times about dogs on their website. Never could bring myself to get back into it, but she was so patient and their rescue group is so patient that this past August we finally saw a dog out there and she was heartworm positive and she had been removed from an abusive situation in South Carolina. Knowing all this my heart was being tugged at to call and we met with her foster Mom and Dad who lived close to Ocean City, MD. They agreed to meet us close to Annapolis and when we met her (3 year old Chocolate Lab), we made the decision within 15 minutes. Picked her up the weekend after in Virginia and she is the most absolute sweetest dog I could have ever asked for. I loved all four of my previous dogs, but this one is just the best. Everything the foster Dad told us is even 10 times better. I bet they would not even recognize her now. The care and love that Operation Paws for Homes has for their dogs is amazing. I would highly recommend them for anyone. They are a loving group, foster parents, you name it they are it. OPH is a phenomenal dog rescue. They rescue All breeds and dogs of all ages. They bring up dogs from down South that were living in high-kill shelters. If it weren't for OPH, many of these dogs would have no hope for getting a second chance at living a happy life full of love. The volunteers also gather donations of all dog-related items( crates, blankets, towels, dog beds, collars/harnesses, preventative medication, jackets, toys, X-pens, leashes, dog food, tarps,dog sweaters) and fill their van to the top and take these donations with them down South to help out the shelters we have relations with. These Southern shelters are in horrible shape and we feel the need to help those shelters as much as we can. When someone applies to adopt a dog-we do a thorough look into that person. We do not want that dog to be returned to us or worse. Some people may say we are picky- I say we are thorough and follow our well trained gut instinct. If we see red flags, the application is denied. These dogs deserve the best and their right person/family will come along-it just might take some longer than others! I came across OPH at an adoption fair they held at Petsmart. I had no idea that this agency would surpass all of my expectations. Originally, I had my eye on a dog that I met during the adoption fair. However, due to the dogs strict dietary needs the agency suggested that I chose another dog. They sent a list of dogs that would fit my family. I was so disappointed, but figured they knew best. I came across a dog named Count Rugen that had the goofiest profile picture. I requested a meet and greet and within a few days I was able to meet him. The 4 month year old puppy melted my heart the moment we met. The same day I was able to bring him home. He was terrified of being in a new environment. Although I had no clue what to do, OPH provided valuable information that made the transition so much easier. After having Count Rugen, now known as Peanut, for a month the agency checked on his status to ensure we were still a good fit. I am so glad I trusted OPH to match me with the perfect dog! He has become a great addition to the family! I will definitely adopt through this agency in the future and continuously recommend them to all of my friends! read more

We were introduced to the rescue world through Operation Paws for Homes and adopted our pup RIGGS (OPH name Rooker) from them. The entire organization is 1st class and extremely professional and kind. They not only took the time to educate us about why and how they do things, where their dogs come from but what they do above and beyond most shelters and rescues to assure their dogs have the best medical and behavioral vetting possible. We love our little guy Riggs so much and can't believe without OPH he would have not made it out of a shelter. It's incredible to know that they are completely volunteer based... knowing how much time, effort and love they put into every dog they save. To say that we love OPH , Operation Paws for Homes is an understatement! This rescue brought us our fur child who we dearly love. He was a puppy from a high kill shelter in the south who had little chance at life if not for OPH. The application process was professional and speedy. A meet and greet with our family and this pup was set up and it was love at first sight. We brought him home, he had very normal issues for a dog who had been through a few transitions in a short time. Their volunteers were there to answer every email and text. We had such a great experience adopting Gunner that we went back for a second dog. Again OPH did not disappoint. We got a discount for being previous adopters and again the process was professional and easy. OPH has given us two very important family members. They help bring up dogs from high kill shelters WEEKLY. Saving dogs every week from areas where spaying and neutering is an inconvenience. I have always adopted from rescues but after a bad experience I did a lot of research before adopting again. I went to a few events and talked to different rescues and filled out a few applications. OPH quickly responded and were very professional. Some others never even responded back. I had an older dog and needed to find a pup that would get along with her. The adoption coordinator helped find a dog based on what I was looking for. Met one dog and she was too energetic for my 15 year old dog. I felt bad but they explained the reason behind the Meet and Greet. Soon after they found a dog they thought might be a good fit. I drove to Pa to meet this puppy. I love that the dogs are all in foster care until a home could be found. I met Wiggle who was a cute perky pup. Wiggle now Riesling is a great dog. I thank OPH every day for bringing her to me. Thus organization impressed me so that I started to volunteer and be part of a wonderful organization. read more

Operation Paws for Home was professional, informative, and organized. They outlined the steps for adoption and followed through (e.g called when they said they would, reached out to foster parents in timely manner, etc.). They were able to hold a dog for us, so we could meet and determine if it was good fit (which many other rescues in this area won't do). I felt informed throughout the process and there was no stress. We could not be happier with our experience adopting a dog from this rescue. The foster mom who took care of our puppy, Kristine, is an amazing caregiver. She was welcoming and honest with us when we talked on the phone and met in person. Kristine and her family truly loves the dogs they take in and give them a wonderful start to life. Our puppy was very sick when she got to the rescue and Kristine nursed her back to health. We are forever grateful and cannot recommend this rescue enough. read more

We found our new little girl trough OPH, and couldn't be happier! I've worked with and adopted from quite a few rescues in the past, and never have I been so impressed! They truly work as a team, making sure the pup is the right fit for the family, making sure you have all of the health and training information you need before bringing the pup home, and the followup support afterwards is wonderful. Annette and Randy did a phenomenal job acclimating our girl to home life with kids, cats and dogs while they fostered her, and her manners are wonderful thanks to them! I had a wonderful experience dealing with Operation Paws for Homes. We signed up originally to foster a dog and ended up adopting him. The transaction was smooth and we were checked on by many different volunteers to make sure everything was going well in the home. The dog we "foster failed" needed heartworm treatment (which we were aware of up front) and OPH took care of everything. From arranging appointments to medical costs, they saved his life and now we have a wonderful addition to our family! OPH has pulled many dogs from shelters down South and undoubtedly saved many lives. I highly recommend rescuing, fostering, or donating through Operation Paws for Homes. My husband and I adopted our dog from OPH back in 2017 and have continued to have a great experience with the organization. During the adoption process, they were very fast, responsive and professional. Our dog's foster mom talked to us on the phone for close to an hour, answering our questions and talking about the dog before we even met her - I keep in touch with her to this day! She (and all of OPH) genuinely care about the well-being of the dogs, and do all they can to be a resource for their adopters and ensure that the dogs have their forever homes. I have been involved with the adoptions of two dogs from OPH. Both times I was very impressed. I received info prior to one adoption from one of their reps who was experienced in the treatment of Heartworm, which my dog had. She sent clear info and I knew that she would answer any questions that I had. I communicated frequently with the people who were fostering the dogs prior to adoption, and they were happy to answer my questions. After adoption, I received a follow up e-mail from someone who offered to help with any issues I might have. I know, personally, about 8 people who have adopted from OPH and without exception have had an incredibly positive experience. I have never seen a more devoted group of people who continue to give their time, money and most importantly, their hearts to save every dog they can. They do not shy away from the most difficult situation and have taken blind dogs, seniors, three-legged dogs, etc and in all cases find them loving homes. I give of my time whenever possible and have NEVER heard one negative comment about them in the four years since I heard about them. read more

After processing my application quickly, we talked on the phone for an hour talking about my past experiences, current living situation, aspirations as a dog owner, and which dogs would be a good fit. They steered me towards Bilbo, and he was the perfect! They treat dogs with medical issues which is rare among rescues, and they helped me understand how to take care of a dog after heartworm treatment. OPH was absolutely amazing during my process of adopting Amelia! Amelia had a health issue where part of her toe had to be amputated, so the adoption process took longer than expected. Her foster mom, Mikaela, and OPH kept me updated the entire time and I felt very comfortable knowing she was in the best hands possible. OPH is wonderful! They care so very much about their dogs and making sure they find a forever home. The staff were all wonderful who I spoke with and had answers to all of my questions. The foster family who took care of Bodhi (formerly Loui) was amazing. They loved him so much and made sure he was healthy, trained and ready to go home with us.
