Optimum Pension House is one of Dumaguete's newer hotels.
Getting to the address can be a struggle as it's a fee distance away from the main highway. Thankfully, most trike drivers are familiar with its location so you probably won't get lost trying to find it.
As you enter the hotel, you'll notice that the reception area is kinda dark. The area behind the reception desk is also a bit messy. Don't let that bother you because the rooms are really new. Room rates range between php650 (single occupancy without water heater) to php980 (double occupancy with water heater). Family rooms are about php1100-1400.
We got room 106 which is located at the ground floor. The room is small but looks and smells clean. The bed is soft but not that soft that you'll sink to the middle once you sleep on it. The pillows, mattress, and the blanket all smell fresh. No stains and other icky remnants can be found on the bed on and the sheets. There's a work desk so you can do whatever is is you need to work on of the office but note that there are only two power sockets. The first one is for the TV and the other one is free. You might want to bring an extension cord with you so you can charge multiple gadgets.
There are bath soaps and shampoo provided but that's that. You need to bring with you other toiletries as those are the only ones provided. The bathroom area is a bit small too but there are two showerheads. During our stay, the portable showerhead was a hit and miss - at times it works, other times it doesn't. Also remember to request for rooms with hot shower as not all rooms have it.
Optimum Pension House is a good place to stay when on a budget. Dumaguete is a great city and you're better off spending your cash on the food and the experience anyway. Save cash for shopping by staying in this hotel. read more
