Dr. Kestenbaum was extremely thorough diagnosing issues that have affected my eyesight for years but no other eye doctor had even looked for! AND if you want to wear contacts but have yet to find the type that works for you THIS IS THE PLACE! I had tried for over 20 years to wear contacts ... The all-time worst service I paid $700 for glasses in October that have been back at least 8 times to be fixed. The lens fell out last night they fixed it this morning not even 12 hours later it came out again. After seeing he made the channel deeper so it won't happen again They refuse to take responsibility for poor design and replace them. On my last visit they agreed that frames are poorly designed and have agreed to replace them. So I changed my review to 4 stars because it shouldn't have taken as long as it did. Thank you read more

I am extremely disappointed with this store. A few months ago I went in to show how scratched my lenses had become. They were less than two years old. The man behind the counter barely looked at the glasses and almost threw them back at me saying "They're scratched"! Genius, I knew that! He claimed he could do nothing at all to help me in an ungentlemanly way. Nasty. Flash forward to today. I visit a different optical store where the optician advises me that my lenses are defective and I should have been able to return them for new lenses. I am fuming now because I can't believe I spent so much money for defective lenses and the very worst customer service. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being ripped off.. Dr Zalaznick is very understanding and an excellent eye doctor. I have used her for 20 years and actually followed her to her current practice. Dr. Z was my follow - up eye doctor after I received the lasik eye surgery. She is extremely thorough and honest and is very easy to talk to about any eye problems, concerns or questions I may have. She also examines my husband and daughter. I recommended her to many people. We are all pleased with Dr. Zalaznick. 5 stars, fantastic doctor! read more

I agree with Han K. They are marking up prices if you have insurance. I was told a price for frames of $99, when they thought my insurance discount was 20%, then when we found out insurance discount was 40% they raised the price of the frames to $219. The doctors are great, but beware when purchasing eyeglasses. read more

I had a sudden visual problem that I was really worried about and so I went to the optometrists at Optix Family Eyecare. They were able to get me in to see an optometrist right away. In addition, the optometrist I saw, Dr. Battaglia, did a very thorough workup of my problem and reassured me throughout the entire visit. She even called my primary care doctor (who is usually very busy) and got me an appointment with him that day! I am really appreciative of how much time she spent with me and how professional and comforting she was at that visit. I will definitely be returning for routine eye care in the future. I was referred here by my parents who both come here for their glasses and love Judy. I was not impressed and walked out after 2 hours super annoyed with no glasses. My eye exam was standard but the woman who helped me look for glasses was not helpful at all. I asked to work with Judy after my patience had expired with the first woman and Im pretty sure no one ever told her I was there. Not the customer service I would expect when I am making a big purchase at a place that knows my family. I will be finding a new place to buy glasses. read more

I am a very hard to fit keratoconus patient who needs a doctor with technical knowledge and patience. Dr. Kestenbaum fits the bill. He is patient, never rushes you out of the office and is always available in an emergency. Dr. K once was on his way out the door to catch a flight and returned to the office once he heard my latest contact lense mishap. He even laughs at my bad jokes when I get nervous. He never gives up on trying to get you the best fit possible. Best of all, he schedules his appointments in a timely and considerate manner. There is little waiting time. Dr. K is also the owner, so there are no revolving door doctors like many of the chains. There is no comparison, he is the best. His staff is always happy to "unbend" your glasses. I went here due to the Yelp reviews ( which I have since re-read with a jaundiced eye), plus I live a few blocks away and have walked passed this place for years. I was unhappy with the optical place I previously used, and was in search of a better option. My husband and I got exams, and I must say they seemed very competent and used some new technology I had not previously seen. That was the good news. Now for the bad. I have NO vision insurance and I pay directly for both eye exams and frames and lenses. After the exam I was directed to "Peggy", who has been referenced here before. I must say she was extremely competent in choosing frames that were flattering. However, she did NOT communicate pricing, and gave no information on options. I chose one frame for "progressive lenses" and one that would be my distance prescription for sunglasses. Peggy did the usual measurements for the pupil distance using the hand held device, but did not mark the lens on the frame for exactly where my pupil would sit so that the "progressive" lens would have optimal placement. Later, when I had my prescription filled at another place, the optician measured, and re-checked his findings three times before he was satisfied. My husband wanted the three frames he already had just changed over to his new prescription, which was one pair of reading glasses, one for distance, and one for sunglasses. The bill just for the glasses came to a breathtaking $2470. I paid for my exams, obtained my prescriptions and decided to go elsewhere. I asked friends for recommendations, and I did get my glasses at another place. The only difference is that I did not buy a frame for my sunglasses, as I had a Coach frame that I wanted to use. I got Crizal lenses, anti-reflective coatings, the whole nine yards. Total bill for five pairs of glasses $580. Quite a difference! Bottom line, I would recommend this place for exams, would not for filling prescriptions. Prices, in my opinion, are WAY out of line. read more

I recently went to a nationally known retail chain for my eye exam - after three times and a refund I found myself sitting back at Optix. I am convinced that they are exemplary at their care and service. Laura (eyeglasses) and Sharon (insurance) were relentless in getting things right. AND I ended up with two pairs for less money and less grief than my last experience. If you can't see that they are the best then you need new glasses and need to go to Optix!! read more

If you have places to go, this place is not for you. Wait time is quite a long time. I walked in at 10A and I am still here waiting for my eye exam (its 11:30A) assuming and hopefully I will be done by 12:15, 12:30 the latest?!?! Besides the wait time, the place is clean and the staff is professional. The staff makes sure they cleaned the surface area with antiseptics prior to the client using it. I haven't waited at a place to be seen for more than 15min for a long long time. Maybe at least 10+ years. Efficiency is definitely not there. The staff here is always incredible, I've been going here for about three years now and have not had one bad experience. From the receptionist, to the doctor, to the individuals who help fit me for glasses that I like, everyone is always fabulous. Today I had my appointment with Dr. Chin and she was super friendly and helpful and did a very complete examination of my eyes which I really appreciate. She went through a thorough examination of my comfort level, allergies, past medical history, and examination of my vision. Moreover, Shelby was the BOMB. Seriously ask for Shelby to help you find glasses when you go. She made my visit today. Even though I wear glasses 60% of the time, I never really liked how they looked on my face. Shelby helped me find a pair of glasses that I actually liked, which is very difficult for me. She found me 5 pairs of glasses in less than a minute (and I actually liked all of them). She was super honest about which ones looked good on me and helped navigate in my price range. Super friendly staff, can't say enough good things :) read more

This place is awesome! I came in recently for an eye exam and the staff was incredibly helpful and professional. It turned out I needed reading glasses due to my job requiring me to spend so much time behind a computer. Hilma was extremely patient while helping me to find the perfect pair that fit my face comfortably, but did not make me look like an old man. Peggy was the optometrist that worked with me and i am extremely satisfied with her work. She appeared to be very knowledgeable with the frames in the store and was very helpful in my choice. She explained the various options and eliminated any perceived problems I thought I had. Optix has a wonderful and skilled sales and managerial staff, and terrific doctors! The doctors took time to do a thorough examination. They explained every step of the examination process from what they were doing to why they were doing it. The staff there was very helpful in making sure I got the right frames that not only fit my face correctly, but were stylish and comfortable! Peggy helped me through most of my process of selecting frames and she was very knowledgable! She helped me find great frames (I bought 5 pairs!) at incredible prices! I've always been a ray-ban fan and she found me frames that I can wear during normal life activities, as well as frames to wear while at work. I work a lot of construction and the frames I got are holding up wonderfully! Jan was also a huge help when it came to the lenses. I needed some special OSHA lenses to make sure I was compliment with on the job safety, and he made they perfect! I absolutely love coming here! I feel like I'm treated like family when I walk through the door! Great experience getting my contacts and new glasses. The entire team was a pleasure to deal with from my eye exam, getting fitted and choosing the right contacts, as well as getting new lenses for my glasses. Even after having an issue with my lenses and asking for a change, they said "of course we can do that for you". I live in NYC but my parents are on Long Island and believe it or not my mom has the coolest frames all the time. So i said next time I am out I want to go to your optical store, i cannot find glasses i like in the city. I went and between Evan, the manager and Marc- the new guy- i received great 2 on one service with lots of expertise on what frames fit my face and honest opinions. I seriously have the coolest glasses now. To boot I went at around 1 pm on a Sunday and they had my prescription made and ready by 4:30 so i could go back to the City with my new glasses. Optix was great and now my glasses are cooler than my mom's. read more

These guys are amazing. I bought a pair of glasses there and by accident stepped on them, crumpling the frame. They were able to straighten it out. They look like new. Best of all, they didn't charge me for it. That's the way to get return business. read more

After going to several expensive boutique eye care places in the past and coming away with frames I didn't really like and lenses that did not correct my vision properly, I asked my eye doctor for a recommendation. He recommended Dr. Kestenbaum at the Optix Family Eyecare Center. I could not have been more pleased. I love my frames and I finally see correctly! I have very poor eyesight and need to be fitted precisely. I also need a place that will make sure the lenses were correctly made. Although I spent a lot in the past for glasses, I never got great results before Optix. I will not be going anywhere else in the future. I could not recommend Optix more highly. DISASTER! ZERO customer service & outright LIES. Let me start by saying that I am not one of those people who cannot be pleased. I have been wearing glasses for 55+ years and am familiar with the process and have never, EVER experienced anything like this. Have been to Optix in the past & was satisfied but that was before the doctor retired (& now only his name on the door). Since then, it's become a nightmare. This a long story so if you're interested in just how bad they are, read on. Fancy, glitzy place with coffee & cookies for everyone. Went to get an exam & order glasses on Oct 21. Was examined by someone who is not even a doctor (which I didn't find out till later). After exam, went outside to order glasses. Laura did not want to explain anything about what the insurance covered and what they didn't, and even got annoyed when we tried to get information. I was told that I owed almost $600 over and above what insurance covered(I wear progressive lenses). Again, tried to get a breakdown of the costs to no avail. I just paid what they asked for & asked if they could be ready for Nov 4th and got "we'll try but it takes 14 business days". Got home to a message that said they forgot to add something & when I picked up my glasses I owed another $50. Glasses were not ready for when I asked for & in fact, not till Nov 9th (almost 3 weeks later) did I get a message that they were ready. Went to get them & I was seeing double! They tried to adjust them but couldn't get me to see clear (& after all these years, I know the difference). Was then told I should go back for another exam with a doctor (which is when I found out a doctor didn't do the first exam). Had to make another appointment for Nov 19th, went back & the doctor made some adjustments to the prescription & I was told I should pick glasses with smaller lenses which I did. Asked this time if I could have them by Thanksgiving, got the same line. Needless to say Thanksgiving came and went with no glasses. Started calling the 1st week in December when the story gets really interesting. First, the insurance lab hasn't sent them out, asked them to check and was told someone will call me back, which never happened (they were supposedly calling every day!) Then the lab broke the frame and had to be sent another one, then the snow delayed the shipment, then still no word, until I was finally told to call the insurance company myself & find out the reason for the delay, which I refused to do, telling them I ordered from you & you should find out. Wanted for Christmas - nothing. wanted for New Year's - nothing. Was told on Friday before New Years that they were being sent and should be in Wednesday (which I'd been told before)! First week of Jan, with still no glasses in sight, told them I was coming in for a refund & would go somewhere else. They said "do what you have to do". Went in Jan 6th for the refund & nobody could authorize a refund. Told them I told them that's what I would do & somebody miraculously appeared that could approve the refund. While I was waiting, somebody was calling the lab (standing right in front of me) to check on the status & was told that the lab had now broken one of the lenses! I asked how could I let the insurance know that I never received the glasses & was handed a post-it with an 800 # and was told to call & re-instate the benefit. Went out to the parking lot, called the insurance & explained & was told by agent that they log their calls with dates, times & remarks & that my call was the first call they had EVER received on the claim (who knows who the guy standing in front of me was talking to). As far as they showed, the glasses (the 1st pair) were made & Optix had been paid for them (along with what I had paid). Over 2 months later & they showed nothing about them being returned or another pair ordered! They were under the impression that I got my glasses, they paid for them & all was good! Asked about re-instating the benefits & they said only the provider could do that, not the insured (in fact I was told, the insured should never have to call the insurance). Asked if I should go back in & she took pity on me & said she would do it. Came back & said they were rude to her but that it's all taken care of. At any rate due to the insurance requirements where they can't split the benefits (the people that do the exam have to make the glasses, so since Optix did the exam & was paid for it, I couldn't go anywhere else for glasses without having to pay for another exam), it's taken till today for me to get the benefit re-instated (not Optix's fault but still something I had to do because of their incompetence). I finally had to file a "grievance & complaint" with the union to make that happen. Who knows, maybe now, 3 months later, I'll finally get a pair of new glasses. Reading the above, I don't think anybody can accuse me of being impatient or over-reactive. AVOID THIS PLACE! (unless you like free coffee with your grief!) read more
