Second of all, 10 stars for Ryan Anson. I guess I should wait until I get the photos back, BUT Ryan was a total star at our wedding. In addition to putting up with the normal stresses of wedding on a hot Calistoga day, Ryan dealt with kids, multiple locations at the site, timing changes, lack of shade, and flirty single friends of ours with complete professionalism. Ryan was a total rockstar. Always there when we needed him to capture something and with, what's very important to us, a sense of humor about it all. He didn't treat it like "just another wedding...stand here and okay put your hand to your cheek. yawn" instead it was more of, "okay bride, if you want to milk the cow sculpture in your wedding gown, i'll shoot that!" Gene X. of Orange Photography is one of the most talented photographers I know. Not only can he photograph weddings, events, and body builders well, but he's also captured beautiful landscapes on Treasure Island, as well as cool sunsets in SF. But most of all, I love the photo booths that Gene sets-up for friends' birthday parties and events. A lot of us have fallen in love with these photo booths and always look forward to parties where they're present. The backdrops are always different and unique, and you can take photos of yourself and friends (with props) throughout the course of a party, only to appear during the party on a big white screen, and later on social networking sites. :) If you're ever looking for a fun way to capture a party, I recommend both Gene X himself, as well as a photo booth-set up. More importantly when I was able to submit my email on the website to be informed when the album was put up to be viewed. The first time I was informed that it was ready, the link didn't work. Not only did I use the Orange team for images for work, but I called them to handle my wedding photography. I was my own wedding planner, as I've been planning events for years, and knew they were up to the task. I'd seen Gene X's portfolio online, and loved his artistic, photo journalistic style. They were very easy to work with on the day of the wedding, and I don't think I noticed they were there, other than for the few posed shots that I needed them to take for the family. What was captured to film was exactly what I had hoped to have, a collection of moments, some that I would never have seen had it not been for Gene and his second shooter. They caught a lot of the details which I'd specifically asked for, to help me build out my event portfolio, and captured those special moments where you can truly see the emotions of the people involved. After the event, I was surprised by how quickly the online album was made available to us, and how much thought and effort went into this as well. The final printed album turned out beautifully, and captured the flow of the event exactly as we had hoped. I highly recommend them to be there for your big day. read more

I do not enjoy giving two star reviews, however, in this case, I have "experienced better." The party I recently attended had Orange Photography set up outside, at sunset, facing the Bay Bridge. It was a beautiful scene and I looked forward to having my picture taken with such a perfect backdrop. Unfortunately, the photographers couldn't figure out how to take a photograph with the lighting directed to our smiling faces AND capture the Bay Bridge at the same time. If this was a technical challenge, then they should have had the foresight to set up in a completely different location. It was a bit of false expectations and based on what I overheard, I was not the only one disappointed that the resulting photograph which while is a lovely photo of myself with friends, it looks as though we are standing in front of a black wall. When it came time to book a wedding photographer, there was no question that we were hiring Orange -- there was never any question. Gene is a friend of mine, but even if he weren't, I have enormous respect for the team's collective talent. (This isn't me being nice -- you only have to check out their website to see evidence of that talent!) For City Hall weddings, it's about $350/hr, which includes post-processing, digital files, and a CD of your images. We decided on 3 locations: City Hall, the Golden Gate Park carousel, and the 16th Ave steps. Given that neither of us had ever had professional photos taken before (unless Sears Portrait Studio counts, and I don't think they do), we really had no idea what we were doing. The Orange team guided us through the process, told us what to expect, and made the payment process easy. Natalie and Jessica were friendly, prompt, and very informative -- they answered all of our questions and kept the ball rolling. On the big day, Gene and Billy took photos at City Hall, and Gene finished up at the carousel and steps. It was smooth, easy, and relaxed. (Although I have to say, being told to kiss Adam so much cracked me up. I felt like a little kid was playing with Barbies: NOW KISS! *mashes faces together*) We got our photos back in three weeks, and they're beautiful! (As someone extremely not photogenic, I was going to be happy if there were two photos of myself that I liked. There were far more. Now that is talent!) We're thrilled with the finished product, and will not hesitate to recommend to friends/go back to Orange next time we want professional photos taken. read more

I have worked with a few photographers, and was fortunate to work with Gene of Orange Photography as one of my "firsts". Having a good picture taken of yourself depends not only on the artistic skill of the photographer, but also on the ability of the photographer to put the subject at ease. LOVE! Gene did my wedding in October and he is the best. My plan for my wedding was to throw the most kickass party ever, where we also happened to get married. Done and done. But sometimes when a party is awesome, the photos don't really capture it, but this was thankfully not the case! I think my wedding actually ended up looking more awesome on film. Gene captured the whole thing from the sweet sensitive parts to the party down moments. He is cool and manages to be everywhere at all times but yet totally unobtrusive. I think someone else said he is a photo ninja and that is true. The only changes I would make were that since my wedding was not super traditional, I didn't do a million posed photos beforehand, and I didn't end up with any solo shots of myself. I am not really a "solo shot of myself" person, but in retrospect, you spend a lot of effort and time to look a certain way on that day, and it would have been nice to have one or two shots. I didn't think of this until recently and I'm sure if I would have suggested it it would have been done. Price-wise, you CAN get photos done for cheaper, (even though my budget was not large) but with Gene you are paying for his talent, cool artistic aesthetic and sense of style, which varies with each photographer you will ever work with. Gene and Orange are also very philanthropic and I know they have done events for low or no cost for nonprofits, so I am happy to support talented artists who have solid business practices and really deliver on their product. read more

Amazing! My husband and I worked with principal photographer, Jack Huynh and let me tell you despite the high expectations I had based on this past work, he far succeeded them. People have told me that they are the best professional wedding photos they've ever seen and I would have to agree. Orange photos are spectacular. Not unexpectedly, but when spectacular art smacks into your retinas it's a surprise even when it's not a surprise. The images we got blow our wedding photos put of the water. It's not even a fair comparison. I wish I could claim that the Mr and I don't derp with wild abandon whenever a lens is within a half-mile radius, but these shots make that claim unnecessary. I was a company holiday party that used their photograph service. They take great photos but very unorganized. The lineup to obtain the photo was a 45min wait. Once we got to the front, they told us we could only get email version of the photos. Not a big deal but the size of the photo is only 25Kb which mean you can't even print them out on your own. A few things you can do to improve: 1. Everyone is waiting for the photo, why not just print them out instead of having us scan through the ipad for 5min trying to find our pictures 2. Give everyone a number so that they can find their set of prints without scanning. 3. Don't tell us that we can get the pictures online only to find out we have to pay $25 for each digital copy. 4. Cut the line off when you don't think you can help us anymore instead of us coming to the front then letting us know we can't get a copy because it is getting late. 5. If you're going to let us email the photo, give us a decent size of the photo. Update: Gene from Orange Photography contacted me and provided the high res photos. Also, explained the situation of the event. Just hope they improve the process. Updated the rating. read more

This review is long over due, my husband and I had a small civil ceremony at SF city hall nearly one year ago. Since most of our friends and family could not attend we really wanted to make sure we had photos to capture the event but had a very limited budget. The team at Orange was absolutely amazing; they let us view several of their photographer's on line portfolios, we ended up going with Nikki. We liked her mix of classical and playful photos. Nikki interviewed us a few weeks before the big day to get an idea of our style and what elements we wanted her to capture for our wedding. After our meeting she went to city hall to scope out the venue so that on the day of our wedding she new exactly where to go to take pictures that looked timeless and highlighted the beautiful architecture . Nikki managed to make the most of our time without ever making us feel rushed. My friends and family still can not believe the number of photos she took in just 2 hours! After the wedding the images were available to view on line in 5 weeks and 6 months later Andria contacted us to mail out the disc of digital negatives.
