I always like to go in for a browse as they often have some interesting pieces on display. The gallery is a lovely light and airy town house, and you are left to browse uninterrupted over the three floors in their tranquil house-like setting. The whole building smells of wood stain and the paintings are hung salon style on the crimson walls. There's a nice choice of watercolours, oils, prints and drawings, from small scale mounts (£100 and under) to huge, imposing modern oils (up to £10,000). At the moment their most dramatic modern piece is a James Boswell, 'The Dark Bride', and if I had a spare £7000 It would be in my hallway right now. If you are serious about collecting you can ask to be added to 'The List' which is a seven-weekly publication that announces their new acquisitions. On the second floor there's usually an exhibition on, so if you're not interested in buying it's still worth a look. I've only ever seen the same three people working there, all highly informative and friendly. As soon as you've rung the doorbell they welcome you in, taking your bags and coat so you can browse freely.

This little shop attracted my attention because of its name (How many shops called or using the…read moreword fossil in have you ever seen?) and once inside, my eyebrows disappeared into my hairline and didn't come down again until I had left 15 minutes later.. and the shop is small enough to take in in about 3 minutes. The riot of colour, a mural style painting with lots of American images on, dominates the wall above the stairs to the basement level, with the rest of the walls on the ground floor given over to the exhibition of watches and sunglasses - all chic and far too expensive for the likes of me. The middle of the floor has displays for leather goods - purses, wallets, bags and the like. The basement floor has two main features - it sells the same stuff as the ground floor just in different proportions.. lots of American paraphenalia buried under a clear glass bottom step (See pictures) and a large petrol metre (fake? who knows). A great little place with good music playing in the background and light colours on the walls, putting you at ease. An excellent little shop.

I was surprised to find out the Fossil sell bags as well as watches, and rather nice ones at that. I used to love the watches with moving pictures in the background, mainly because they seemed high-tech and interesting, but I have kind of grown out of them now, seemingly so has the brand. Watch out for the sales, when there is loads of good stuff to be found at bargain prices, it is a wonder to me that anyone bothers to buy anything at full price.

Her little shop mainly sells leather and fabric bags of all different shapes and sizes, not statement pieces but considered designs that can be dressed up or down. They each have a hand crafted personal feel, with printed linings and a choice of handles. Prices are around £60 - £200 but compared to some designer bags the quality is much better, and these are bags that will stay strong through the seasons year after year.
