What a great experience! First off, they saved our trip. We were going to Orcas for a wedding and did not realize we wouldn't be able to use Uber/Lyft. The first time I called I think I spoke to Doug (I was in a panic), even though he couldn't get me a car he was so helpful and friendly, offering info for other ways to try to remedy our situation. I ended up calling back because he had mentioned having a car for part of the days and I fugured it was better than nothing. This time I spoke with Megan who was also super friendly and helpful. She said, hang on I think I can make something happen for you. She got a car for the whole trip! Secondly, the whole process is a breeze! You pay ahead and get a confirmation email with all the info you could need, a map to get from the ferry to your vehicle (a very short walk), and a code to get in the car. They even have a sticky note with your name on the window. No waiting around in line, signing a bunch of stuff, like a corporate rental company. When you drop it off you just fill it up and leave it where you found it. I don't know if all the vehicles are like this but it was a hybrid so spent barely any money on gas! I rented through Orcascars.com for a surprise flight to Orcas Island with my partner (now fiancé). Orcas was incredible throughout the process in supporting our big day. We picked up the car at Rosario. I had been confused on the pickup location (which was my own misunderstanding), but after a few minutes learned there was a separate lot away from the one we were looking at (this was in the instructions, but I just hadn't realized that it existed on the other side of the dock). I texted Orcas Island Car Rental when I couldn't find the vehicle and they got back to me right away. Once we located the right vehicle, it was immaculate and the pick-up process was a breeze. Perfect service! Quick response to questions and prompt emails. The car was clean and water bottles awaited us. This will be my go to rental for our yearly summer visit. The Deer Harbor supervisor refused to allow the car to be there waiting for us. I had to take a taxi to and from the car. Ate up 2 hours of my trip and $60 in taxi service. Why Deer Harbor did that to us, we cannot understand. My review for Deer Harbor will reflect our experience. This was out of this rental company's control. I will call the Harbor Master to make certain this does not happen to us again next year. If this is Deer Harbor's new customer service, do not moor there. HOW IT WORKED I'd needed to line up a car on Orcas Island's community of Eastsound on Friday November 15th for pickup early Saturday the 16th. A colleague of mine had seen a car go by with a OrcasCars.com logo on the car's back window, so I did a Google search for them as we'd sat at lunch. Using my smartphone, I was able to get my reservation done right there at the restaurant. (Tip: have your insurance card with you because you'll need to photograph your card and your driver's license in step 2.) After filling out and submitting the simple form for the dates and times I needed, I received an emailed Docusign PDF contract which contained upload links for the photo of my driver's license and insurance card. After about a half hour, there was an email explaining where to pick up my new Elantra in the morning. The next day at 0-dark-6:30 I was at the Orcas airport, and sure enough, a red Elantra was waiting in the parking strip to the right of the little 'terminal" building with a lockbox hanging on the right-rear window. The email had a code to use to unlock the box and inside was the key fob for the car. The box went into the glove compartment and off I went. Gas was full, interior was clean and two bottles of water were waiting inside the front door pockets. What's more, the rate was no more than what I'd pay in Seattle at a nationally-known company. All this is fast and smart, and modern, but that isn't the best part, nor is it even the point of posting my review here. ABOVE and BEYOND CUSTOMER SERVICE A little background to set the stage: I'd been travelling on very little sleep for several days so Saturday began for me on a very sleep-deprived November morning. Fast forward 10 hours later, your humble and even more tired and bleary-eyed reviewer is transferring luggage out of the OrcasCars rental. It's almost winter, so it's dark again as I unloaded my gear, using a little "AAA" flashlight to double-check everything looked clear and off we went. I .txted the number provided in the pickup and delivery email I'd received Friday that the fob is in the glove compartment so that they could lock the car remotely. All's good until about an hour later at the ferry dock when I started thinking, where's the GoPro case? Had I seen that recently? Maybe not. I quickly pawed through the equipment cases and suitcase, feeling the rising panic, nope, not there. You Have To Be Kidding Me. Called the hotel, 15 minutes later they called back, nope, housekeeping hadn't found a thing. Here comes the ferry, bye-bye Orcas and, apparently, my GoPro kit. During the journey to Anacortes I .txted the OrcasCars number advising that the GoPro was not in my luggage and could they please check the car for it? Remember, this is about 6:30 PM on a Saturday, that's not what anyone would call normal business hours, but about 90 minutes later, I received a .txt that said: "Hi, gotcha and we will be on a lookout for the camera. Once we have it we'll coordinate getting it to you. Thank you again for renting with us and no worries about the Gopro!" Well, that's pretty cool. Maybe there's hope. Got home and some badly needed sleep. Sunday, I advised the OrcasCars .txt number that my search was negative in the luggage, and OrcascCars responded, in part, "...we have our Island manager going out to check the car and if it's not there we'll help you with reaching out to the businesses and locating it." Within the hour came the message, "We have the GoPro!" "Please send us your mailing address and preferred method of shipping." I did, then OrcasCars advised, "We'll have your camera on the way ASAP, no worries. Thank you for your trust and for renting with us! We'll keep you posted on the shipment details." How about that, helping on a Saturday night after hours and on a Sunday. Name a single national car rental company that will go above and beyond like that for you AND is that honest about a very valuable and desirable package--- when they don't have to be? How would I know the difference if they just kept it? I bet you can't think of any car rental company that would provide this level of CS. I can't. This is obviously a company that is looking at the future and realizes that people remember service like this and return for more business. And they recommend them to their friends and colleagues. Like I said, fast and smart. I'm impressed and grateful at their generosity honesty and grace handling my own oversight. read more

Best car rental experience I have ever had anywhere in the world. I land at east sound airport, walk 40 yards to my car, punch in the lock box code they emailed me earlier, get in, and drive away. Super clean, new car. To return I simply parked in the same lot, threw the keys in the glove box, texted them that I had dropped off the car so that they could lock it remotely, and headed to the plane. The Orcas Cars rental experience was a quality experience - good communication and a clean, well cared for car. The one star rating is for their deceptive business practices. They offer a $50.00 inter island ferry pass that is supposed to allow you to ferry between the San Juan Islands without having to wait in fee lines and pay per ride. We took advantage of this offering only to learn that it does not exist. It is simply a scam to enhance revenue from unassuming tourists. I contacted Orcas and requested a refund, thinking they would provide a refund upon being caught. No refund, no communication. Unfortunate. read more

Great service and what a nice surprise! I'd always heard car rentals weren't avail on the island, so we were so happy to see the flyer at the airport. I was a little nervous at first because it's all online, meaning there's no rental car office or person to talk to. Seemed weird, but it all worked out pretty quickly and easily. Basically you go online, plug in your information and docu sign, and then the car is unlocked for you remotely. We ended up in a nice new Hyundai Elantra, same car my fiancé drives at home, so that seemed like fate too! read more

We recently had a fantastic experience working with Tucker and his team at OrcasCars.com. Back story - we came by boat, and planned to spend some time at Deer Harbor before moving to Rosario Marina in Eastsound. OrcasCars dropped off a car for our use on a Tuesday at Deer, and then when we were ready to cruise over to Rosario, they moved the car so that it would be waiting for us right at the marina. Tucker dropped us notes throughout to ensure great coordination. Outstanding service. Simple process - open the lock box, grab the key and go. I was only able to rent a car at the tail end of my vacation unfortunately because they didn't have anything available to rent on the days I wanted to make reservations for when I called them. When I went to pick up my rental though, it was where they said it would be in the message they sent to my phone. The code they gave me for the lock box worked fine and they had free water in the vehicle waiting for me, which I felt was a thoughtful gesture. My trip to Orcas Island was good and the rental car I used near the end ran well and looked nice. I just wish I could've had the car throughout the full extent of my trip. Also, having to take a picture of my insurance policy and a license was a bit of a pain. Despite this, I look forward to coming back to Orcas Island one day and I will most likely rent from Orcas Island Car Rentals again if they have a vehicle available. read more

I recently visited Orcas Island on vacation and rented a car from OrcasCar.com to get around the island. The whole process of signing up was really easy, I just used DocuSign for my signature and then all I had to do was send a picture of my insurance papers and license and I was done! When I got off the Kenmore Air seaplane at Rosario Marina, I found the blue car that I had rented was exactly where their email said it would be, so I texted them that I was looking at the car and viola, it was remotely opened for me! Another thing I'd like to point out is how incredibly clean the vehicle was, completely spotless! The only downside was that the chocolate in the snack back was really melted by the time I got the vehicle due to it sitting in the heat for so long - luckily it did come with napkins. They also require a picture of your insurance policy prior to even be able to rent a car, so I had to send that to them before I could be approved. Otherwise my experience with Orcas rental cars was positive. I had a blast visiting Judd Cove and Moran State Park during my trip and look forward to my next visit to the island. read more

Brilliant new model of car rental on Orcas Island over the Labor Day Weekend! All of us who love Washington State's San Juan islands, also know that trips there are accompanied by long long waits in parking lots hoping to get on a ferry if you weren't lucky enough to get a car reservation. Holidays are impossible - you lose a half day in both directions on holidays, and even on summer weekends, arriving way early for the ferry then sitting in your car for hours. This time we left our car in Anacortes where there are 4 paid parking lots ($11 a day) and walked onto the ferry, only needing to arrive about 45 minutes ahead. The rental car communication with us in the prior days had been so great that we knew all we had to do was walk off the ferry on Orcas Island and up some steps and we had a car waiting for us. We had lockbox instructions that worked perfectly. We also appreciated the state park pass in the car. The car had less than 500 miles on it so was in pristine shape. When it was time to leave, we didn't have to sit in a car ferry line for 3 hours - instead we were able to park the car, they locked it remotely after I texted them, and we walked onto the ferry having waited for only about 45 minutes. We walked off the ferry again in Anacortes and got into our own car that had been parked there for 3 days. We couldn't have made this trip without this amazing service as car reservations were sold out in both directions given it was a holiday weekend. 100% worth it given how much time we shaved off the normal 2-3 hours of waiting for ferries on both ends! I hope this company grows and grows. I've been telling everyone about it! We will be faithful users of this service going forward! Nicely done! We are big fans. read more
