Great, superlatively clean and amply stocked local grocery store. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Whilst I've enjoyed their fresh cut sandwiches before boarding the ferry, the fourth star is awarded based solely on their carrot cake. Until eating Orcas Island Market's carrot cake, I thought the best carrot cake I'd ever eaten was served at the restaurant atop Sax Fifth Avenue, New York. Potential carrot-cake connaisseurs should note that cakes are rotated daily albeit carrot cake is not offered daily. We stopped here for a few odds and ends that we needed for dinner and found a hidden gem--Woody's Taproom! Wine, cider, and beer on tap in a grocery store! They had our favorite Finn River cider on tap, and for $5/pint?!? Yes please! They also had some yummy food available, but we had just eaten, so...next time for sure!! The market had gorgeous produce and everything we needed after arriving from our 16 hours of travel to get here. However, the most welcome part of our experience was the warm, helpful and patient service we received from Kayla. As we tried to do self checkout and messed up so many times (16 hours of travel + two kids intent on "helping" = many, many mistakes) she just helped with a smile, and even a laugh, as we required her to fix our errors again and again. With our exhaustion, all the errors could have taken us to a dark place, but instead we were all giggling and happy thanks to Kayla's incredible warmth and patience. Love, love, love this place! Since I am on Orcas, usually once a year every summer, of course I practically live here! They are five minutes from my cabin, and have a great selection of food and prepared foods! Cutest little market ever... And friendliest employees ever! While visiting family on beautiful Orcas Island we stopped by this inviting grocery for provisions. Wow they have a wonderful selection of food, prepared and ready to prepare. Service with a smile was the norm for this store, and as a visitor much appreciated. We were staying in my brother's extra beach home and decided we were dining alfresco because of the stunning scenery so we purchased some beautiful food to match the scenery. I was a little shocked at how reasonable the prices were too! I don't have pics of my haul but I am posting pics of dinner from my haul. Can't wait to visit this store again when we go back in March. read more

So glad that this market exists. So glad they have so many speciality, fresh, organic, vegetarian, and vegan options. Even though the parking lot is pretty spacious it can be hard to find a place during high season. It's a popular place. Location is excellent. You can walk everywhere from there. It must be a challenge to provide so much inventory for the islanders. Great work! I really enjoy shopping here. It makes limited options of island life feel so much more. read more

Great store! Fair prices (we expected much higher prices for being on an island, but most things were comparable back to home. Very friendly staff, well organized, well stocked, if you're looking for a place to stop off for groceries, this is a good choice. They also have a coffee bar, a good beer and alcohol section, and pretty much anything else you'd need. read more

The staff were so helpful and fun! I'm from Hawaii and was excited to see they sold lottery tickets (we don't). I didn't win but it was fun doing a scratch off. Everything you need for time on the island. From the ample meat selection, to a ton of frozen foods, but more importantly a lot of great, fresh produce, and for those who imbibe, a wickedly impressive selection of wines. Made: Two trips Full turkey dinner Grilled steak dinner Salads of all shapes, sizes, and contents Lots of lunches (soups, mac n' cheese, sandwiches for days) Lots of breakfasts (yogurt, smoothies, fresh fruit, cereal) I made all that, not exclusively with goods from here because I was worried about what I would find and bought groceries on the mainland, but you definitely could make them all just from the goods here. It's a fully stocked, almost full-size grocer. I was also warned about island prices, and obviously you're going to pay more when everything needs to be shipped over on a boat. But it's a Western Family store (Associated Foods?) so there's a house brand, and honestly, I didn't have too much sticker shock. I thought that all transportation considered, very few items had my eyeballs out of my head. Try going to Whole Foods and spending the same $60 I spent and I guarantee you won't walk away with as much as I did. More than a grocery store, it's a hub of activity. People here seem to be friendly but respectful, so you can visit with folks here, or just get in and get out as you wish. If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then the grocery store is the heart of the community and this is where you can see your neighbors, and pick up all you need for leftover turkey sandwiches. read more

This is the main grocery store on the island located on the main strip in Eastsound. Everything you could need is found here. They have a nice deli with fresh foods, a coffee stand that is open in the morning, and everything in between. I was able to get lots of tolietries and essentials that I forgot to pack. Staff is friendly. There is plenty of parking. Also, if you go, be prepared for island prices as everything has to be imported. read more

Great market! Was able to get everything that we would normally get at any other grocery store. The store is well stocked and is always being cleaned when we are there. My only complaint is that the staff aren't super nice. I don't expect them to be super happy, but basic customer service etiquette would go a long way. Fabulous market with a good choice, I was really surprised. I found some items that I have to usually track down and they just had it all in one store. I gotta go to multiple ones to get it all. They carry the wonderful Ulis sausages (for this huge selection, you usually have to go to Pike place market), I found delicious Ace guava cider and they good the good belly mango. They also have great fresh produce and meat, the dairy section is huge and staff is friendly. Awesome! read more

Very nice grocery store with everything you might need while visiting the island including liquor. Similar prices compared to Safeway EXCEPT their bacon price was outrageously high. I think I paid $13-15 for a simple pack of hormel bacon. Clean store and restrooms also. read more

This is the small grocery store of my dreams. Seriously, if this store could be cloned and plunked down within driving distance of my Seattle neighborhood, it would be my go-to grocery store. I am something of a foodie and truly enjoy cooking while staying at my vacay rental on Orcas Island. Island Market has never let me down in my need for both usual and unusual recipe items. I was blown away to find not only organic chicken, but chicken that is organic AND air-chilled - in a small store on a rural island! And lastly, be sure to stop by the fish counter for the house-made tuna poke. It is the best poke I've ever had. P.S. Being from Seattle, I don't find the store prices shocking. I spent 5 days on Orcas and went here everyday. Sigh. But...they had everything we needed! Cough drops? check! Vicks VapoRub? check! Fabric deodorizing spray? (don't ask) check! Wine? check check check! I compared the prices to the SF Bay Area and they weren't too far off. Liquor (not beer/wine) was definitely more expensive, but that is WA state, not the store. Well, it's a market! And it's clean! And pretty well stocked! The produce they carry is seriously amazing. I mean it was all fresh and all looked good. I had to come here later at night one evening when my son was sick to pick up some Pedialyte, bananas, and blueberries. Have you tried buying blueberries off season before - especially a box of blueberries that actually look good?! It is a nearly impossible task, but here, I found them. In fact, I found a huge pile of them. I will be honest, I was surprised that there was such a big grocery store on the island. Obviously the locals need food too, but I can't imagine that there is a lot of business in the off season. The only thing that they didn't have that I was hoping to find were swim diapers (Apparently nowhere on the island sells these, which I thought was weird considering how much of the recreation here focuses around water - do kids just poop in the ocean?). The only downside is that you will be paying island prices for your food. It's not to the likes of Whole Foods, but it's not cheap. Pedialyte @ home in Seattle at my local Safeway is about $4.50/bottle. The same bottle here was $5.99. read more

This is the only "large" grocery store on the island, and it is owned by the same people that own the little market and deli over on Orcas Ferry Landing. The location is good because it sits at the exact mid-point of the island...easy to get to from the State Park. It has a large selection, especially for such a small island. And, yes, it is more expensive, but it's on an island...everything here has to be brought in by boat. They also have a good Washington and Oregon wine selection, and plenty of local goods. Get the tomato soup if they offer it! The squash soup is good, also, but the tomato soup is just what a person needs on a cold, rainy day, sometimes including sleet! My husband and I also tried a cauliflower curry and a type of pasta vegetable dish, both vegetarian and offered at the deli. I was grateful that there were vegetarian offerings when the fried chicken seemed to be one of the most popular offerings at the deli. This store was a lifesaver when so much on the island was closed offseason. We were able to pick up basic ingredients, but I also was thrilled by the very healthy kale and other veggie offerings. The offerings were much healthier than I usually find in island stores. The tomato soup was a definite favorite although we could only get it once. We joined so many other people in loving tomato soup in weather that included wind that could blow a person down the street, sudden hail, and driving rain. My only regret is that I didn't buy two large containers of that soup, maybe even three. The hot tomato soup offered at the Island Market has me loving tomato soup again. I'm determined to make my own version soon. read more

This store is GREAT! I live in a small town (just a bit larger than Eastsound) and I wish our store was so nicely stocked. They have a wonderful produce, friendly staff (that will help you find what you are looking for, since I'm not local this was helpful), great wine selection, and an awesome deli. If you are spending your day you can have an amazing picnic with the great selection from the deli which is what my family did. It is clean and very well stocked. It is an island, so it is more expensive than the local Safeway where I shop, yes. But I fully expected that. Those grocery delivery trucks get to pay to get on that ferry too. We visit Orcas Island every year and I love knowing that I have a place to shop that will have all I need. As a mother of two small kids we are always needing something and I know right where I need to go. I LOVE SHOPPING HERE! I wish my local store would take a few notes! read more

Well, as a visitor, I am not sure I can give this place a full on review. However, it had everything we needed that we forgot. Yeah, prices were higher than my local safeway but I expected that. Plus, the vitamin water was a good price! That made me happy. I didn't check out their meat but the produce looked good and they seemed to have a good selection of things. They even had zicam! Whew! Grocery store is a nice well stocked store with efficient staff but Yelp is more about food for travelers so this is what I'm rating. Deli hot case: Basic fried food often put out at 10:30am. By 2pm tasty fried food is well done. Old food is at bottom of tray. No rotation is practiced here. Won't get you sick but could be tough, dry and chewy. Jojos best deal and ask when put out, $2/lb. Cold deli case: Salads are made in factory but often a safe bet. Meats are sliced in house Fresh made sandwiches. Safe bet $7 Soup: Made from a bulk frozen concentrate but usually tasty. $3/8 oz. Island pricing, sales bring prices closer to mainland average pricing. read more

I can always find what I need and when I get lost the staff is always willing to get me to the right aisle or section for my needs. As the *only* supermarket on Orcas, Island Market will certainly be a stop for many locals and travelers alike on any given day. Prices here are a bit higher than on the mainland, of course, but not extraordinarily so... and it's still much cheaper to stock up on goods here than eat out on the town for every meal. While staying at a cabin with a full kitchen on the island over a holiday weekend, we stopped by the market a couple of times to stock up on beer, groceries, and such. This store isn't nearly as large as a full-size Fred Meyer, but they've got pretty much everything you might need-- including fresh produce, deli section, hard liquor, and a pretty good selection of beer. Pro tip: to get really FRESH beer, the Island Hoppin' Brewery is only about a mile away from here. Get your growlers filled (or purchase new ones) there, pick up some grub here, and good to go! read more

The spouse and I chose a rather remote location so stocking up here was a must. I didn't realize that an ungrounded shopping cart even existed until shopping here. Every time you grab something off a shelf you get shocked. The cashier told me it was because of the ungrounded carts and that they get shocked all day long. They should get a lawyer!! This is a truly unsafe working environment! I HATE shopping here. Everything is twice the price of the mainland so it's a total rip-off, the selection sucks and it's LITERALLY torture to shop here. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Island Market does a fine job providing all the essentials to locals and tourists alike at prices that are not outrageous. Their deli sandwiches are dependably good, though the few tables and chairs near the deli are pathetic (take your sandwiches outdoors for a picnic on the hoof). The store is clean and bright, and the produce section is pretty impressive given the fact that it's a pretty small store serving a small population for much of the year. read more
