I could go on for paragraphs (well, I guess I will...) about how thrilled I am with the treatment I've received. John isn't just technically excellent, he's a wonderful teacher; he explains anatomy, physiology, and neurological retraining so well, and that kept me motivated to do my exercises at home. He genuinely cares about how clients are doing, is truly happy to hear when they're doing well, and took the time to make some careful adjustments to my previous crummy orthotics to make them more useful until my wonderful new ones from Dr. Le arrived. One other thing that especially impresses me about John compared with other physical therapy I've had is that he's not locked into a plan with a preordained set of treatments or exercises. On a recent visit we were all set to do some more ligament/muscle/tendon-focused treatments and exercises, but in passing I mentioned a new sensation I had in my foot and he immediately adjusted that day's visit to focus on the nerves in my back and legs in an entirely new way. That flexibility said a lot to me about his holistic approach to treatment. He and the team--Morgan, Beau, and Hal--are all so nice, friendly, supportive, and encouraging, and are really observant and helpful about every detail of body mechanics to make sure that their clients are getting the most out of every exercise. It's the only PT experience I have where not only my initially problematic symptoms got worse, but old unrelated ones flared up as well. In all of my visits there over two months, I was seen for initial assessment twice, which really was a waste of time/money for me. On the administrative side, their sessions are 45 min instead of 55-60 min elsewhere, so you get less treatment time for your money. Not only that, my sessions have been cut even shorter because of their late start and early finish. They don't always follow up with promised emails, don't give out exercise instructions, and don't have an online portal for all assigned exercises and instructions.

I'm very happy about this. I had neglected my physical fitness for almost a decade and I was staring to see and feel it. I had never tried personal training before, but based on past experience, I knew that to make a long-term positive change in my fitness, I should seriously consider this option. When I first showed up, I discussed my goals with James, and he set me up with Brett as a personal trainer. Brett paid keen attention to my history and goals. At the time he left Portland, a year later, I was very happy with my increased fitness and confidence in my physical abilities. Brett and I also became friends. When Brett left, Tammie transitioned me over to Martin who was just starting there. At first I wasn't sure of this transition, as Martin's style differed from that of Brett's, but over the next few weeks I came to appreciate Martin's style of personal training. He too, paid keen attention to where I was coming from and what my goals were. I highly recommend him. When Brett or Martin weren't available occasionally, I trained with Tammie and Juniper. Those sessions were also great. I consider everyone at Whole Body Fitness to be very professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. Whether you do virtually or in person he does an amazing job but I do have to say I like in-person better. TJ Michael has been fantastic. He tailors all the workouts to exactly what I need. When I first started with him I had major back problems to where I couldn't even walk. Now hes helped me slowly get my back "back in shape", haha! Every week we go over our new exercise routine. It's fantastic too because it doesn't strain my back at all but it helps me strengthen all the muscles that I need it's just that I need to keep my back loose and my hips free. My wife also goes to see Tj as she wants to build muscle and keep lean. We have very different workouts which shows me he is very versatile! That brings me to his professionalism and respect. Tj likes to get measurements so he can keep track of your progress. He doesn't require it though. We both wanted to do it though and he made the whole process so easy. He was very respectful and had us help measure so we were more comfortable. He is the best! His level of professionalism and fantastic listening skills far exceeded our expectations. He also hears everything you have to say and need that you have and he'll tailor the experience to you. When you go in you'll have an initial evaluation and then he'll come up with a starting routine and he'll go over everything with you before you start to make sure everything sounds okay to you. He is the first person ii see when I feel unwell, even before my PCP. I highly recommend Dr Brett, as his fees are very reasonable, and his knowledge of medicine and nutrition is encyclopedic. If you have a health condition, you can't get a handle on, and your PCP is stuck or uninterested in helping (which has happened to me, unfortunately), I highly recommend Dr Brett. He is very helpful with weight loss, and his acupuncture sessions are relaxing . Also, his fees are also very reasonable. The office environment is clean and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about Dr.Brett!

Brett Csordis is the practitioner here and he really cares and wants to help you feel better. I was having a lot of pain on and off due to a varicose vein while waiting to get approved for surgery. Going in every week for a while got the pain under control and when I had a flare up one visit would nip it and get it back under control. You really feel the energy moving while the needles are in and I always felt better after a treatment. The office building is not inviting, behind Safeway and McDonald's, but inside Brett has made it a very relaxing and healing place.

Melanie's profile caught my eye on the website of Bakar fitness. I have always been on the petite side naturally and one of my goals was to be able to gain muscle and be strong. I never thought it was possible for me to be very strong being a 5'3 and naturally skinny person. Melanie definitely proved me wrong! My proudest moment was when I was able to deadlift 185lbs (I was myself 107lbs). While the number of pounds gained/lost definitely shows progress and reflects great milestones in one's personal health journey, training with Melanie has helped me look at health beyond numbers. Training with Melanie has had cascading positive effects in my life. I have become more disciplined when it comes to my health which in turn has improved my diet, reduced my anxiety, helped with my insomnia. Melanie is definitely unique in her approach. I have had several trainers where training means 1 hour of working out with them every week. Melanie is not your average trainer. She cares deeply about her clients and goes above and beyond for them. Outside of our 1 hour of training, to give an example of how Melanie came through as a coach for me - She gave me a nutritional program and kept me accountable. I broke my wrist from a bike ride; Mel helped me train my lower body in isolation for multiple months which helped me stay healthy physically and emotionally. I also had a shoulder surgery from a sports injury. I experienced a lot of atrophy and stiffness after the surgery. Melanie has supported me over the last 2 years to build back my strength and range of motion. I can do pull ups again! I have gained a lot of strength and muscle with her programs. Melanie is not a trainer that just cares about the number of pounds dropped/gained or to just get you high numbers for squats or deadlifts. She is very cognizant of injuries, she puts a lot of focus on conditioning and stretching and taking care of your body like it is a temple.She is extremely educated about anatomy. These qualities differentiates Melanie's programs from just another personal training experience. People often think having a personal trainer is not worth the money. Why pay someone when you can google exercises/programs. Having done my share of googling programs and investing in a personal trainer like Melanie, I can definitely say I am better off with Melanie. I look at health differently now and investing in having an expert like Melanie has definitely been the right choice and the returns have been more than worth it.

All hail the home visiting Dr. Chase Gentry. I told a friend that my entire body was messed up but…read morethat going into the chiropractor or going in for a massage, just didn't seem essential enough during a pandemic. Thus, it's been over a year since anyone in our household has been adjusted and we were all paying for it. Constant *crunchy* sounding joints during movement and stretching. Constant complaining of nerve pain, muscle pain and headaches. Neck and shoulder stiffness making it impossible to find a comfortable sleep position, disrupting the ability to fall asleep quickly or soundly. That same friend told me about Dr. Gentry at New Spine Chiropractic. He has an office but also, does home visits. He wears an N95 mask, sanitizes everything after he sets up in your home. Basically does everything possible to take all the precautions for Covid safety. If you have more than one person needing services, he offers a discount. That could be relations or even just friends or neighbors. He worked on my husband first and then me, leaving us both questioning why we ever thought chiropractic maintenance wasn't essential enough. We could have avoided months of pain and complaints. Especially with the home visit option. Dr. Gentry popped things back into place, that I didn't know needed to be or could be popped back into place. I've had hundreds of hours of service between chiropractor, accupuncture, massage and physical therapy. Yet he had methods and results that I haven't seen before. The results being immediate relief that melted me like butter. For instance, the outside of my shoulder area, where you actually apply your own pressure against his arm position and *pop pop pop pop pop pop." My upper ribs were all out and pulling everything up, causing more issues on my shoulders and the worst headaches. Those were all fire work sounding adjustments as well. My lower back had some gnarly pops, too. He used some gadgets after (names escape me) that were fantastic, as well as a pinch and pull method of quick massage. Adjustments only happening after he took my vitals, as he would in clinic. Did I mention I'm almost 6.5 months pregnant? He made sure to do enough pressure and adjustments to help my quality of life with pain, yet not so much pressure because ... well... pregnant. His way of thought is getting you adjusted but also, helping you change your lifestyle so that adjustment isn't always needed. He showed us stretches to keep up on, to help with the specific problem areas that we have. We are definitely having him come back, I know we'll need more appointments until we get anywhere close to being able to manage this with fewer adjustments. I have spine issues from an old MVA, that I was told were permanent, so I don't ever expect to be chiro/massage free. However, the additional stretching and diet/vitamin suggestions were both informative and a sign of his overall genuine care for his patients well being vs being appointment hungry. I couldn't echo my friends recommendation more strongly, when I say that you can't go wrong with Dr. Chase Gentry. His knowledge and skill is top notch. Whether in-home or in-clinic, you'll be treated with the same professional care. Last thing, for in-home visits he left us with a bill/receipt to submit to our insurance after for reimbursement. In-office visits, insurance is done through the office. Easy peasy, lemon squeezey.
