I've had back issues that since I was a teenage and have gone to many physical therapists with mixed results. Since discovering Caring Hands and Alisa I have been a faithful customer. Plus, I was happy to have gotten an appointment the same morning that I called for one. When I arrived, I first filled out an intake form in a comfortable seating area lit by natural light and talked to her about why I was there. She listened carefully, asked what I felt were the right questions, and gave helpful and empathetic input. The (heated) massage table was in a space to the side with ambient lighting. I got a relaxation massage, and it was wonderful; she knew when to go more lightly and when to give more pressure. And as a plus, I loved the lotion she used too; it wasn't as oily as others are and had a really soothing (but not overpowering) scent. Sometimes massage therapists are too clinical or too talkative or don't seem to have much intuition about things. Sometimes the background music is bleh or there is just something indistinct about the experience that disappoints me. But none of these things were true about Alisa or about my experience at the Caring Hands studio. If I wasn't moving away I think I would make regular appointments with her! I also love the idea of getting reiki or a massage-reiki combo that's available at Caring Hands through another practitioner.

I finally took advantage of a gift certificate I received for this place for a massage. I decided…read moreto get a massage the morning of a big law school final, just to keep me nice and relaxed. The waiting room area was well decorated, and the staff was very friendly bringing me out a glass of water to start. They had few options for massages, and I asked if I should get the relaxtion massage, or the Indian head, neck, shoulder massage. The maseusse Kate told me that if I was going in to take an exam in four hours I should go with the regular relaxation massage, becasue the Indian head, neck shoulder would be too much, and I might not be able to focus on what was in my head. The total massage time was actually very close to the hour, not like some places I'd been to in the past where they disrobing, and pre-converation was considered part of your hour. I don't go to spas often for massages, but I can say that I can see myself getting gift certificates for other people to this place.

First, the clerk at the front desk called a couple days before our appt to confirm the time and told us we could come up to half an hour earlier if we wanted to, which my bf said that wasn't necessary. Then the day of, the clerk called us 20 minutes before our actual appt time to ask us why we were late. Despite that we came almost 20 minutes before our appt time, they still made us wait 30 minutes inside the massage room until anyone came in. The rooms were decorated nicely but the robe that I got was dirty with a large orange stain on it and the towels after our bath were stained with something as well. The massage was supposed to 45 minutes but lasted only 30 minutes. I was planning on tipping the ladies anyways but I was a little irked that the woman demanded a 20% cash tip (on the original price) before we left. For those who are using the groupon, that's $70. I wish we had been notified of that earlier because I don't typically carry that much cash on me at all times. Overall, I definitely will not be coming here again.
