From the moment Glen introduced himself, he shepherded our group from site to site, finding us shady spots whenever he could whilst sharing his voluminous historical, cultural, and cultural knowledge of Berlin and Germany. He also used multimedia very effectively to explain the sites and sights. His knowledge of Berlin and Germany is matched perhaps only by his love and respect for both--the latter of which was particularly manifest when he explained the book burning site, the location of Hitler's bunker, and the Holocaust memorial. Walid, our guide for Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Tour provided a great experience, from shepherding our group from Hackescher Markt to the camp via the train. Walid provided a detailed history of the camp from is beginnings to rediscovery of its records office. This IKL building kept records of all the camps that the Nazi's operated. The Russians and East Germans also used this camp after 1945. The cruelties that occurred here and at other camps should not be forgotten. read more

I've been on many tours in many cities over the course of my life but Campbell's mix of enthusiasm, humor, extensive knowledge (and Australian accent!) made our tour through Berlin a truly special experience. It was clear how much the city meant to him and you could hear his enthusiasm in every story he told and fact he shared. He even, after having us walk through the Holocaust memorial, had us discuss our feelings about the experience and facilitated a really thoughtful conversation. A truly memorable time. We had the pleasure of taking the walking tour with Torben as our guide. He does speak perfect English as he grew up on Long Island, New York. We took the standard tour which takes place almost completely in what used to be East Berlin. Torben did a great job of explaining the history that took place in the sites that you stop at and along the way. He made the tour quite enjoyable and it made us want to go on another tour with the company to learn more. Take the tour early during your stay that way you have a greater appreciate of the city. read more

Our tour of Berlin with Darren was the highlight of our visit. With a city that appears to be weighted down by its own history it was a treat to have a guide to point us in the right direction. We met by the station near the zoological garden and bought our tour tickets alongside our train tickets, very straightforward. 20 minutes later we were in East Berlin and meeting some more tourists eager to join in. We walked miles! In all the tour lasted just about 4 hours and 30 minutes so you certainly get your money's worth! It was a cold day but dry but I believed Darren when he said that the tour gives ahead rain or shine so come wrapped up and well prepared! What I liked most was Darren's passion for his subject. A PHD student from cambridge, England, no less and knowledgable and questioning and therefore a perfect guide. We covered centuries of history and faced done uncomfortable questions...what would you have done when the books were being burnt? How would you commemorate the systematic destruction of millions of people? Would you gave stayed in east Berlin or would you gave escaped to the west? All fascinating questions and ones that made the experience of being in Berlin that bit more special. So, once you've seen the Brandenburg Gate and checkpoint Charlie and you're not quite sure what to do next, get along to see Darren. Tell him I sent you! read more

We took the "Discover Berlin Walk" tour with Original Berlin Walks recently during our stay in Berlin and I highly recommend this tour company to anyone traveling in Berlin and wanting to learn more about the city. Our tour guide was Torben. Torben was awesome...very knowledgeable and perfect English!!! This company offers multiple tours, but the tour we opted for was a tour of the main sites and a brief overview of each site. It's a lot of information crammed into a small amount of time. Torben was a great benefit to us as he has lived in America (NY) and was able to give us the German history of things and some American history where pertinent. He also told us stories about actual people at many of the sites and is quite animated which really enables you to put yourself into the story and to remember it!!! It is very advisable to wear comfy shoes and to work on your stamina prior to taking this tour as you walk a lot and at a pretty quick pace. Have your camera on and ready as sometimes you only have time to take a pic of a location as you are walking by it. read more

I was traveling to Berlin for work and only had 1 day at the front end to explore on my own and didn't know where to start to make sure I fit in as much as possible. I showed up for one of the Original Berlin Walks and Gregor led our tour. He is a native Berliner and was extremely knowledgeable about the city and it's history. In addition to providing a great overview of the history, he illuminated the social and political things that were going on leading up to historical events - the things we never hear about in history books. Absolutely worth the money. For about €10-12 (discounts for youths/students), you get to spend about four hours taking in the sights with a very knowledgeable tour guide. We took the introductory walking tour which snakes its way through all the major sights, beginning with Museum Island and ending in Gendarmenmarkt. Our tour guide had spent years studying and living in the city, and had a lot of information, both common knowledge and interesting tidbits I hadn't heard before. You can meet the tour either in the west (Zoologischer Garten) or in the east (Hackescher Markt) several times a day. read more

We had an excellent walking tour through the streets of Berlin with our guide Matti. He showed us all the spots where key moments in the war went down including the space where Hitler's bunker sat. He has a number of stories from the days of the Berlin walls including his own personal stories of how it affected his family. As well as going to many important spots to do with the war and the wall, he also showed us a number of key Berlin places and pointed out the best museums to visit. It's a great way to orientate yourself within the city and to see all the key spots as well as getting a good background to everything that went down in Berlin. read more

She had a way of eliciting our passion and asking us to question our own interpretations of the sites we saw. If history was this exciting in school I would have loved it! This tour operator is quite fantastic! The tour guides speak English very well and are incredibly knowledgeable. The meeting place for some of these walks Hackescher Markt is fairly easy to get to. The Discover Berlin tour is quite good. It is much walking around some very important parts of Berlin and gives much insight/history into how things came to be, and why they are that way. The tour guide Torban was both entertaining and knowledgeable. The much longer Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp tour was INCREDIBLE. Especially because our tour guide Kevin spent much time describing the history and fascism of Nazi Germany that allowed for such horrors to exist. By having Kevin explain to us in great detail the historical and social context of Nazi Germany did the operations of the former camp make so much more sense. read more
