In 1858, David Mizell Jr. bought an eight acre homestead and a community sprang up around it. Rapid development of the area occurred in the 1880's, when the railroad laid a track connecting Orlando and Sanford. In 1885, a group of businessmen started the Winter Park Company and incorporated it. In 1885, Rollins College started. Rollins College is still a wonderful part of this community to this very day. Winter Park is a great place to live or visit. It has great restaurants, shopping and neighborhoods. The community is vibrant and there is a lot to do. I also enjoy going to the farmers market on the weekends. Winter Park is definitely a great part of the Orlando area. I would definitely recommend a visit here and I will give it an overall review of five stars.

It's the Public Works Compound. They allow the public to bring old half empty paint cans & other things like that a couple times a year so you can properly dispose of it. I've been back in there a couple of times and they have this quote posted on a gas station for city vehicles that pretty much sums up what they do. It says: "Nobody notices what we do, until we don't do it." It's so true. Most residents of Winter Park, and the same goes for everybody I guess, take the basics for granted. We forgot that it takes hundreds of city employees to maintain the basic infrastructure we all use every day. A couple of the big ones are the police and fire departments that do things all day and all night to make sure we can go about our normal routines safely. They do all kinds of things that we never hear about as far as drug busts, catching bad guys, saving lives, etc. The most underrated are the men and women that call this compound their home base. Public works, building maintenance, streets, waste water, forestry, and water distribution. They are the ones that can attest to the "Nobody notices what we do, until we don't do it." All in all, this city is arguably the best in the entire Central Florida area and the people that run the city deserve a little Yelp love.

They called out the Captain, who went through 80 hours of training just to be certified to be able to install a car seat! Yikes! Anyway, while he was working on the seat one of the guys took my toddler into the truck and rang the bell for him. They even brought out one of those plastic fire hats for him. He LOVED it and all the people were very friendly and personable. I've seen the department out in the community often and they are always very kind and professional.
