I WOULD NOT SEND MY DOG THERE FOR SURGERY!!! I did have a consult with DR.THOMAS GIEL who was a complete A$$!! I've never been treated more poorly by a physician in my life. I happen to be a physician's wife and although that doesn't warrant special treatment, they do know that I know the medical field bc I manage a medical practice. I was treated w/a med by him I'm allergic to 5 min after telling him. Terrible bedside manner as well as physician!!! I've now had surgery for a complete tear of my rotator cuff by Dr. Christian and I could NOT HAVE BEEN MORE MISERABLE!!! Do NOT GO THERE!!! It was a living hell the entire recovery process!!! If I could do it all over again I would definitely choose someone less arrogant, pompous and more sympathetic to my pain and suffering!!! read more

The front desk is very nice. The doctor that I came across I don't feel confident about. I went in for my left knee that is in pain from over exertion. This knee was dislocated last year so the Dr. Should have been aware of my history. I came in with blood pressure 158/91. I asked if it may be due to poor circulation in that knee but they told me to wait to hear from the Dr. First, he tried to tell me my dislocation happened to my right knee based off their reports. The reports were incorrect. It was my left. They only did an x-ray... that only gets the skeletal... not tissue, possible blood clots, etc. He doesn't see anything wrong he just felt it was inflammation. He recommended two things that will make my blood pressure highER. I asked him which is best because my BP was high already. He responded as if he didn't read any of my vitals before coming in. Needless to say, I'm in the ER . Great front desk. Not so sure about the Doctors. I hope they realize that you think you can have people constantly coming to you that invoice/income doing patch work... not me... if I'm not confident in your practice, I'm gone. read more

Ortho Memphis is definitely five stars . Twice I have injured both feet and was a "walk in". Was not there total time a hour and a half . Problem was dx and cast and sent on my way . Employees and Drs are great ! This place is wonderful when accidents happen especially at inconvenient times . Memphis has needed a place like this for a long time . I've unfortunately been a regular customer of this place on and off for almost 10 years. I've used several doctors for a number of different surgeries and procedures and have found all doctors to be professional, attentive and patient. I've used Dr. Weiss for rotator cuff surgery and knee surgery. He does an outstanding job and I never feel rushed or talked down to...he listens to concerns and questions; is willing to step aside if he thinks there's a better alternative or a better surgeon for the job. The office staff is friendly and relatively efficient. You'll still have a wait but it's not much different then most offices these days. The group is pretty extensive and regardless of what part of your body needs attention, there's a specialist for you. read more

Had shoulder surgery performed by Dr Deneka, following a motorcycle accident. Dr Deneka was very thorough in describing the risks of surgery beforehand and seemed to include me in the decision making of treatment. Surgery went well and recovery is ongoing. Scaring from surgery appears to be minimal, with no other complaints. My assigned Physical Therapist was Jeremy Bradford. He was outstanding! He is professional, attentive and he pushed my PT at just the right pace for my progress. He has a great table-side manner and has an uncanny feel for how he can challenge your progress without it being too much. Definitely recommend both of the professionals! read more

Unfortunately, I have to say my experience at OrthoMemphis was the worst I've had. I went there with a herniated disc; arrived half hour early as requested to fill out paperwork. I could not sit in a soft chair with the back pain so I stood. Then I was not taken into the exam room for another 40 minutes after my appt time. After standing for 70 minutes, my pain had reached a high level and my left side locked up so that I couldn't walk. When the nurse came out to call me back, she didn't look up to see where I was, (too busy reading) standing and WAVING to get her attention. So I had to call out across a room full of people. "Can you help me, please?" She yells back, "do you need a wheelchair?" Yes. She gets me one. I asked to lie down right away in the exam room. I was tearful by then and every move produced more sharp burning pain. I let out an involuntary scream of pain as I stretched out on the table. The nurse became very flustered. "I don't know what to do to help you." I asked for a pillow and then she left me alone in the room for 5-8 minutes!! Dr. Dowling came creeping into the exam room and kept his distance on the other side of the room. He had a silly smirk on his face. He did NOT introduce himself to me. He did not ask me about my pain, nor what pain meds I had, nor my history with regard to the herniated disc nor anything about me! It was bizarre! When I attempted to talk with him, explain my situation, he said, "I know your story." ??? When I asked him about whether this pain was going to get better, he said "you'll get better in 6-8 weeks. (It had already been 5 weeks of disc pain at that point.) The information he did give me was vague and ambiguous. It felt like he saw it as a big chore/imposition to have to be in the room with me. He said he would do a nerve block in a few days. When I came for the nerve block (different location) the clinic staff at the place were nice and helpful. Again I had to stand for quite long (35 minutes) before going in so my pain was high once again. When Dr. Dowling came in, he again asked me no questions, kept his distance from me and was vague in answering my two questions. After the nerve block, I was sent home without any further pain medicine. I figured, I guess I should feel a lot better after the epidural. Two days later I was carried out of the house by paramedics and taken to ER. I WAS hysterical by that time with Excruciating pain! All I can think is that the doctor had decided at the outset that I was one of those histrionic women, just making a dramatic scene and that he was therefore going to ignore all of that behavior and me, so as to not further encourage it. The next day after the ER, i got a call to schedule Physical therapy. I could barely walk--the pain was so intense and Dowling thought I could do PT!! I will NEVER go back to that Clinic again. I'm sure there are some excellent doctors there, but I didn't have one. read more

Dr. Giel is horrible. He looked at me, never touch me or ordered and testing. He said, as I said without touching me, that I had a fluid pocket. This was 6 months after the initial injury. Now it is 18 months later and I'm having problems walking and doing anything standing. I've gone to a different orthopedic doctor, come to find out the Bulge is actually my muscle hanging off. This arrogant doctor has left me so messed up. Now I'm looking at major surgery and a very lengthy recovery. Do yourself a favor and at least get a second opinion. Don't wait like I did. This doctor comes highly unrecommended. read more

I was told by my doc at Baptist Humphrey's Clinic to see an ortho for a pain in my neck/shoulders. I had been examined for a minor head injury and cleared and was told to see an ortho for the residual neck/shoulder/back pain. I went to Orthomemphis and was turned away and told to "go to the ER" because the pain was related to a head injury, even though the head injury had been examined and cleared. I will not be back here for any reason. I think they were busy and just wanted to send me on down the road. Very unprofessional. read more

On 1/23/14, Dr. Sam Murrell performed the following Spinal Surgery for me to remove the extreme pain in my neck and left shoulder and the numbness in my left arm to my fingers: C5 to C6 and C6 to C7 anterior cervical discectomy and instrumented fusion. He did an outstanding job as I have no pain or discomfort any longer and can perform all work and social activities as desired. He is a great surgeon and he made me comfortable throughout the process with a quick diagnosis, list of possible remedies, surgery, and follow-up visits. I could not be more pleased with the job he and the Orthomemphis staff did for me. read more

Been coming for a year following surgery. Always at least an hour behind. Even if you are the first appointment. Bring a book or two.

I have seen 3 Dr.'s at this practice. Dr. Brown was excellent. Never had to wait a long time. The other 2 were at the Spine Center, whole different story. Wait times 2 hrs for both appts. Surgery consult was a waste of time, the Dr. had no recommendation or suggestions for me. Just kept saying "you decide what you want to do, you are the one in pain." No guidance, seemed like I was wasting his time after I waited 2 hrs to see him. I have decided to get a second opinion. I have requested that my medical records be sent elsewhere. I sent in the requested release form. I waited 2 days and tried to call to find out the turnaround time. After several prompts and holding, I was always sent to a voice mail and told to leave a message and someone would return my call promptly. Three days and 3 messages later no one has returned my call from the medical records dept. I also left a message for the Dr.'s nurse asking about my MRI disk that was not given to me. She never bothered to return my call either. read more

I went in for a painful right big toe. Didn't have an appointment so I went to the walk-in clinic, filled out the paperwork and was in to see the Dr. 30 minutes later. Had my x-rays immediately, Dr said I had a stress fracture and put me in a walking boot. Service and Dr were great but the billing was horrid. I checked my EOB a few days later and my Dr charged me $319 for Surgery- Bone/Muscle. No surgery was ever done. He took x-rays, touched my foot, told me I had a stress fracture and put me in the boot. Where was surgery portion? I've had to get my Health Advocate group to help remedy this claim/overbilling. I would ask cost of services if you go here. read more
