They have loads and loads and loads of cocktails. Seriously, the list seemed endless. Eventually we settled on a classic martini and a sour grape martini. Yum yum yum - they'll put a spring in your step. The bar was busy enough, and the cocktails seemed to only take seconds to be made (maybe I was far too busy admiring the bar tender... ahem). Before I knew it, we were siting with 10 glasses between us and very little money - it got to that point where we actually combined our purses, just to share "one for the road". Oh dear. Needless to say, by the end of the night, I seemed to have convinced myself that it would be a good idea to try their "cocktail master class", and as I was leaving, I told (read: screeched at) the barman that I would be back for it. Definitely would come back to this place and for sure will give the other gastropub a try. Love the cool vibe and outdoor feel even though your inside. Thankfully, that isn't the case here, as the Metropolitan is exactly as you'd imagine it to be from it's name. sleek, shiny, shallow, but with a brilliant cocktail list and a buzzy enough atmosphere, even if it is often full of people chattering about property prices. I did like the added touch of the charity shop picture of the week in the toilets. It gave a wee description beside the painting telling you about it and the artist. I think it should also say what charity shop it came from too, I think that would be a nice touch. The music was a bit eh... aye, em well different?! Not my taste, but hey each to their own. It was a good atmosphere but then I was in a good crowd. I would like to come back and try their food menu. I could smell good things from their kitchen as it hadn't long closed when we arrived. Hip, casual atmosphere, good beer on tap, and great food that's way above the average standard of pub grub. We both had the baked haddock, which I was expecting to be some slightly tarted-up variant of the usual fish & chips, but it turned out to be a visual delight as well as tasty, and provided the perfect fuel to fire up the brain cells for the quiz ahead. We did have to wait a while for it to arrive, but the place was pretty packed so that wasn't a surprise, and they were very apologetic about the delay. It was definitely worth the wait, although if I hadn't been so hungry I might have taken more time so savour the taste instead of hoovering it up. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable too. If you like a pub atmosphere and good quality nosh, you could do a lot worse than Sparkle Horse. Although it was our first time tackling what is said to be Glasgow's toughest pub quiz, our team the Sparkle Dorks were victorious over the regulars (although it was a close call!), which means we'll need to return next Monday to defend our title. Oh dear; I'm not good with Tuesday hangovers... Finally, a bit of trivia - I remember reading somewhere that towards the end of its former life as the Dowanhill Bar, they discovered a hidden room deep in the bowels of the place with its own entrance where some guy had been living for years unbeknownst to the bar staff. On a matter of days two new pubs have opened on the street not far from each other, this is a good thing as Glasgow does need a little more variety. Life Glasgow is the latest addition on the street based where the old Campus bar used to be. This is yet another sports bar with more than six televisions in front of me. The bar has a fresh look to it, I can even smell the paint, there is a stage in the middle of the bar for entertainment, there is the usual draft drinks on offer but nothing new apart from mangers ice cold only costing £3.30 a pint and that's pretty good for this street would work out 55p cheaper than o'Neils bar just up the road. Food available just your typical pub grub sandwiches, panini's & baps but there is a snack & sides section on the menu that looks pretty cheap but wouldn't expect much for the prices. A few down sides that I spotted was that the bar was empty just me and another customer, the other negative that the bar tender had poor English where I had to ask twice what she said. The walls are rather bare making this bar too minimalistic. I hope that this bar will be better than what was here before, will be back in a week or two to check up & adjust their rating, up or down.

Not to mention a big fluff of candy floss stuck to the side of the glass. I would definitely go back for a few more of those! The food wasn't great. I ordered mussels but they'd run out and made the huge mistake of opting for the carbonara. It was really gummy and stodgy and I left quite a lot of it, but the garlic bread was nice enough. Long story short I'd go back for the martini but definitely would skip the food next time.

Burgers are great. Of course, not everywhere gets them right but you can't blame places for trying. We tried Cova's burgers last night. I got the gentle buffalo chicken burger. A large, tender chicken breast with pesto, mozzarella and salad that was delicious and just the perfect size. My partner got a beef burger with onion rings, barbeque sauce, cheese and bacon and said it was excellent. I asked to swap the standard side of fries for a house salad which was no problem and was fresh and crunchy but I must admit regretting this as the fries looked great. Cova is housed in a really nice building. Its interior is good looking with high ceilings and comfy booth-style seating. It would be a great place to bring a group of friends for burgers or cocktails after work. The bar is seriously well stocked and it's one of the few places I know of in Glasgow that will sell spirits and liqueurs by the bottle. It's also one of the few places that has a whole page of its drinks menu dedicated to tequila. Perhaps tequila is getting fashionable at last. I'd definitely come back to try the barbeque section of the menu, as well as the poutines. It looks like they rotate deals throughout the week, so if you keep an eye out you can probably get a good price on something most days. That said, it might be worth booking ahead - I was surprised at how busy it was on a random thursday evening. There was even a little awkwardness when we showed up as our waiter asked the people sitting at our resevered table to move. Fortunately the waiter handled it very well. All in all I liked this place. I'm sure I'll be back soon.

We both had burgers, Mary a veggie burger and me a beef one. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was served quite quickly, and the atmosphere in the place was jovial. The provided Wetherspoons magazine was interesting to read. It's amazing how many branches they have across the country. At one point in the evening, a glass smashed close to our table. However, in less than a minute, a staff member was on hand to clean it up. The toilets are kept very clean as well. Great work Spoons, keep it up!

It's quite dark and fairly moody looking but has a good friendly atmosphere. Also they stock Caorunn, one of my favourite gins, so a star to them for that! Would probably nip in here for a quick drink if waiting on a train rather than going to Bonapartes in future.

The staff members were kind enough to bring me a whole jug of iced water because it was literally roasting under the sun! That's service right there haha The price was about £12.95 I think. I drove past this place a couple of times and me and a couple of colleagues decided to give it a try. The decor is light and airy with a feel of being at the beach (well for me anyway) lots of light blues. It is small and I can imagine could get pretty busy. We arrived and got a lovely window seat. The staff were friendly, helpful and fun. I ordered the cheeseburger minus the bun and it was delicious I especially liked the chillislaw. The tomatoe sauce comes in cute little jars. We all enjoyed our food, the only downside was the price as I feel it was slightly over priced for what we had. Over £10 for a burger. But that aside I will defo go back again.
