All sandwiches came with either crisps or salad and the soup had plenty of fresh bread on the side. A selection of drinks from hot chocolate, coffee, chocolate milkshake and tea was lovely too. As always the stroll around the farm shop afterwards is always full of lovely local produce and I always find something tasty to buy :-)

The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life. It happened to be on one of the corners I go past regularly so I thought I'd treat myself. The decor around the place is humorous and makes you feel welcome the moment you spot it. I'm pretty sure it's family-run (a couple and their daughter) and the cakes are certainly home-baked. They're not the neatest and tidiest creations, but they're huge and very tasty. Genuine home baking and all the more charming for the fact that they're not perfect in appearance. They do meals as well - full breakfast , etc. - but I didn't have long so settles on a cup of tea and a very generous slice of raspberry sponge (topped with real raspberries - lots of them). Even with my vast gut and ability to devour confectionery, I struggled to finish it! I spied two women opposite who'd gone for some kind of meringue creation - the top and bottom meringues were separated by around 8" of filling. The scones are the size of two fists. My cake and cuppa was £5.30 which, to me, isn't cheap. But I'd still go back. Given that it's probably the best food within a reasonable drive or a hell of a walk *and* it's got everything else going for it, it's not that bad.

We had coffees and cakes, and they were really lovely. I especially loved the rich, velvety chocolate and seville orange cake slice, as did my 3 year old! Next time I am at Mugdock, I would definitely visit here for lunch. They have a lovely menu of sandwiches, paninis, bagels and flatbreads with a great range of delicious sounding fillings to choose from. They also do a little kids meal deal which is good value at £3.50 for a drink, sandwich and crisps. The seating area is cosy and comfortable with plenty of space and a good number of highchairs available. There are also little nooks with child-sized sofas for your little ones to explore. I can't believe I haven't found this little gem earlier, and am looking forward to my next visit already!

She and another member of staff served us during our meal and I have to say the service is second to none - really first class. There is just so much choice and really interesting, imaginative, meals and snacks too. Large selection of soft drinks, herb and fruit infusions, excellent coffees, wine, beer and cider - just about anything you could wish for! I can personally recommend the exquisite grilled halloumi cheese and salad with balsamic dressing - utterly gorgeous!! The place is very clean - tables were cleared and wiped thoroughly as soon as they were vacated. The tables and chairs are chunky wood, there is a wooden floor as well. There are mini-spots set into the ceiling and framed articles from magazines praising the cafe on the walls. There's a full-size disabled toilet in addition to the usual ones - again, everything was spotlessly clean and looked after. Then you find yourself looking at a delicious array of baked goods as you make your way around the corner... giant strawberry tarts, huge millionaire shortbread, and countless (ok maybe not exactly countless) other cakes and baked goods. Judging by the other food they had on display, I couldn't imagine that you would find much if any of it to be disappointing.
