The Times-Herald was established in 1871. It's a local newspaper that covers the Forrest City area, as well as Saint Francis County, Arkansas. It's definitely worth picking up a copy (for just $1.50) at various newspaper racks located around the region.

The parent company owns multiple 'Business Journals' in a number of cities (ie, the Denver Business Journal, the Atlanta Business Journal), but the Memphis version is no worse for being, essentially, a franchise. The MBJ does an excellent job of reporting local happenings. Memphis reporters consistently write well and the paper provides all the information you could ever want should you be in marketing, sales, or PR. If you're not in those fields, only the occasional story about your own particular field will be of interest. If you're not in business in Memphis, it's likely you won't find the need to ever pick this journal up. If you are, though, it's indispensable.

They publish a fantastic reference book every year called the Book of Lists that contains listings of all of the top businesses in a variety of industries with very detailed information on each. We stopped by to kill some time before our movie, and I decided to grab some snacks before we leave. The cashier who took our order was not very friendly, and not surprising either given past experiences here. After waiting for a bit, our bakery items still hadn't been handed to us so I went to check. One of the baristas (I believe her name was Courtney?) didn't acknowledge me at first and curtly asked if I had already ordered. I explained that we had a movie in 10 minutes and just needed our bakery items. Instead of simply grabbing them for me, she responded with a rude attitude saying orders are processed in the order received. I would understand if I had ordered a drink but I was just waiting on cookies and a brownie, something that takes zero effort to grab. The interaction could have been handled much better and unfortunately this level of service seems to be the norm here. That being said, aside from the unfriendly baristas, this Barnes & Nobles is clean and well organized.
