It's been a long time since I visited a bookstore. When my child was younger we would go every weekend. I enjoyed my day exploring the books, I was helped by very nice employees who seem to love working there and I would happily return. They had some really good prices on journaling materials and other books were also marked down. I didn't find what I was looking for but I did discover so much more. read more

This review is specifically for the Starbucks café inside Barnes & Noble. The customer service here is some of the worst I've experienced. We stopped by to kill some time before our movie, and I decided to grab some snacks before we leave. The cashier who took our order was not very friendly, and not surprising either given past experiences here. After waiting for a bit, our bakery items still hadn't been handed to us so I went to check. One of the baristas (I believe her name was Courtney?) didn't acknowledge me at first and curtly asked if I had already ordered. I explained that we had a movie in 10 minutes and just needed our bakery items. Instead of simply grabbing them for me, she responded with a rude attitude saying orders are processed in the order received. I would understand if I had ordered a drink but I was just waiting on cookies and a brownie, something that takes zero effort to grab. The interaction could have been handled much better and unfortunately this level of service seems to be the norm here. That being said, aside from the unfriendly baristas, this Barnes & Nobles is clean and well organized. read more

Always a great experience at this bookstore. I love going to the cafe and getting treats. The service there is always speedy. Plus the selection of books inside the store is pretty great. They also have a great book annex section that's always worth checking out. I've found many hidden gems there plus they also had Monopoly Memphis edition! 10/10. read more

Visited twice to obtain advice on getting material for a teen. The clerks were very helpful and pleasant. They have moderate as well as more upscale drawing materials (pads/pencils/pens/how-too books of seemingly every level). Coupled with a gift card, it had everything we needed. Ambiance is like a good library, though they do have a cafe also. The selection seems staggering. The location is very convenient for me, as it sits just on the Wolfchase Galleria property. read more

One of the employees was very rude and confrontational about my dog being in the store. My dog is a service dog, she is BY LAW allowed to be in the store. Your employees need to be aware of the ADA compliance and what is allowed and isn't. I will not be shopping here anymore. She could have been more respectful about the situation but she wasn't. read more

Vast magazine selection - which is why I visit, as I am totally not into novels Cafe is perched and elevated in the middle of the store. They have the standard cafe fare. If you've been to a B&N , you know what that is. They have comfy chairs scattered about - which 'probably' is a deterrent from people actually buying anything, since they can just grab a book and curl up comfortably - but still they're nice to have. My oasis! On my cross-country travel, I finally found a nice B&N location to pick up a few new books and hang out for a bit. While the past few years have seen more toys, games, and even vinyl records (which this store has) the books section has been receding. This location is big enough that the book section was still filled with lots of books in all the categories. I picked up "Coders" by Clive Thompson and a new book of essays by Oliver Sacks "Everything in its Place". Starbucks can be hard to find in some states, but it is right there at B&N. First off I'm totally stoked when I see a baby changing station lol so true. I'm thrilled to see that there are baby changing stations provided for both moms and dads restroom. That's totally helpful and so convenient. I applaud you Barnes and Noble Booksellers! During this visit my little one joined storytelling time . After I looked around and a found a clearance table. I racked a hauled on toy for baby. Then when the register printed my receipt I had a $1 off on a grande Starbucks beverage. Now that's awesome! read more

Although I usually buy books on amazon and thrift stores I come here for magazines and books on sale or with a gift card. Great selection and staff, wait to checkout can be a little long, but there are plenty of things to see and read. Great place to hang out if you love books. read more

I recently went in there to get a KPOP album and bought two and mind you these damn books are completely sealed and you would obviously know if they had been opened or not and at check out they told me I had to open my album book and pull everything out IN FRONT OF THEM because people steal the materials or sometimes all the stuff that comes with them aren't all there in the albums. I explained to them that that quite literally ruins the excitement and experience of buying these book because inside you get surprise photo cards and goodies and if they aren't all there THAT'S WHAT A RECEIPT IS FOR. I was highly upset with the fact they didn't even try to sympathize the fact I didn't want to do that taking away the purpose of buying the album in the first place and when I asked if I could just go sit somewhere in the store and open them the lady told me "I don't understand your logic, it doesn't make much of a difference." and prolonged starred at her because if it didn't why couldn't I? I had to sit there and open them and pull out all the materials and it completely ruined my experience and mind you I got to pull my favorite member and I couldn't even be happy about it. you think I'm gonna squeal in front of a random lady about pulling a piece of paper with my favorite little Korean man on it? Hell no. I wish I would have gotten her name, because her attitude was terrible and that just completely crushed my spirit. read more

I agree with Misty -- this location is great. You walk in, the place is clean, smells of books and yummy coffee, since there's a little coffee shop smack dab in the middle, complete with little tables where you can enjoy your coffee with a cup o' joe. They have a great selection of super-cute cards and stationery which I'm a sucker for. You'll also find big, squishy chairs scattered through the store that you can sink into with your read. It's such a welcoming place. Love it. I also love the amazing selection of books on sale, in every genre, as well as an adorable kids' section. And, if you're into manga, they've manga'ed out a corner in the back. It's graphic novel paradise. read more

This is a great Barnes and Noble. The store is spacious, well stocked and always clean. Plus it has the new book, coffee smell that is so wonderful when you walk in! The children's area is large, creative, colorful and playful. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was here today to pick up summer reading books for my children and they have tables set up for various age groups which made it so easy. I love the cafe area. I have gotten their coffees and deserts. They serve sandwiches too, that look and smell great. Why come here for adults: The selection is large and the cafe area is a great place to check emails and meet clients. They offer free WiFi and there is plenty of room to spread out with your laptop and paperwork. I come here often to meet clients. They offer a writer's club every other Saturday at 10:00 and various book clubs. Check the website for updates. There are always good "finds" on the bargain table as you enter. It's fun to see what is on sale. Why come here with kids: The selection is diverse and the play area is fabulous. Kids can sit on the benches and read their books or play with the train set. There is even a miniature stage which allows them to be creative. They offer two story times each week- Tuesdays at 11:00 and Saturdays at 11:00. I have been several times and Tuesdays are not crowded which makes it nice for the little ones. They always have a craft and the website details what book will be read each week. my favorite study spot! as of this week, they renovated the cafe section so most the desks around have outlets now! they also redesigned the cafe bar and everything looks amazing. The cafe has a huge selection of food (muffin, sandwiches, cheesecakes, cookies) and starbucks drinks. the baristas are always so kind (and if you're a regular they'll remember your order ) but they'll sometimes be kinda pushy on you to get trenta size drinks though. nonetheless this was the perfect place to study all summer. also high recommend their flatbreads. buffalo chicken is my favorite. read more

I'm not sure how much a Barnes & Noble differs from location to location, but I really do enjoy visiting this place, both as a resource for purchasing books as well as just hanging out. Bookstores are generally pretty comfy for those of us who like to read, and this location is no exception. These days, I mostly purchase things like manga and graphic novels, which are often hard to find as they are somewhat niche in nature, but this particular location has a very nice selection. The pricing is retail, which means it's generally a couple (and in some cases, a few) more dollars than what you'd find on Amazon, but it's nice to be able to come and pick out your volumes directly. The ability to judge the quality of a purchase is damn near invaluable and worth the premium (and gas money) if you ask me. Stocking can be a bit slow sometimes, but I'd imagine requesting certain volumes wouldn't be too big of an ask. Can't deny it's a bit annoying (and prevalent) to see certain series have later volumes but not the first few. In terms of service, I would have to say it's been fairly good so far. I can only recall one specific day when the line was backed up quite a bit, which if you come in for large hauls at a time, this can be somewhat annoying. The bathrooms are actually nice and have been both clean and odorless each time I've visited. This is always a plus for any public building. I'm not a fan of Starbucks, so I can't speak much for the quality of the service or fairness of the pricing, but I would have to note that the seating area where it is located is often populated and folks look pretty content. All things considered, I can't think of a better option in terms of a bookstore within the Memphis area. It's location is quite attractive considering you have the mall and an ungodly amount of restaurants nearby, so definitely drop by if you're a reader! read more

I love barnes and nobles. I Grew up studying and reading in big bookstores. Seeing as this is the only one in the area, keep it in business please!!! They have a great selection of moleskine products (but not planners-gosh darnit), books, holiday supplies, etc. the Children's section is cute just like any other BandN. I basically live here. As a grad student, and a person with a serious book habit, Barnes and Noble is my second home. This particular location has the cafe smack dab in the middle of the store. I like it, it's the best spot for people watching when you take a break from reading or studying. They have a pretty good selection of Moleskine notebooks, which I happen to be a sucker for. I come here at least once a week. The cafe has decent food, and the coffee is always good. This B&N is perfect to wander away a few hours and find some good reading. read more

This review is pertaining to the Barnes & Noble Café which despite all the signage has very little to do with Starbucks at all, except that they sell Starbucks products. The Wi-Fi, setting, service, and overall experience is definitely sub par. They don't even accept Starbucks gift cards. Also there is only one outlet to plug in a laptop in the entire café... This bookstore is on an island. Location, location, location--put your bookstores within walking distance of something. There's not much parking, but there are always free spots available. It's in a good location if you need a single place to study at, but I prefer locations where I can escape to the bookshelves and my family can walk to things nearby. It is in the middle of the hectic life of the corner of 64 and Germantown Parkway and a few hundred yard walk from Wolfchase Galleria. However, it's only "close to other things" from an automobile perspective. There's only a single power outlet in the cafe on the far side from the main door. Total bummer and puts a damper on electronic-based long-term study sessions. Once you get past these details it turns out to be average faire for Barnes and Noble, which is a respectable and relatively consistent bookstore in cleanliness and stock. read more

I have to reiterate -- I have no clue how this store is still in business. The boyfriend found a book around Christmas that he wanted to purchase several copies of, one for us and one as a gift. Amazon to the rescue, at $15.99 or thereabouts. But wait, I said...instead of waiting for shipping, why don't we just pick these up at the bookstore? I went online to Barnes and Noble and found the book in question. There was even an option to hold it for store pick-up -- perfect! Except that, wait a minute, the in-store price was $10 higher. Huh? When we stopped by the store to inquire, the girl could not explain why it cost more to buy the book now, rather than ordering it, and could not discount the in-store price for us. The boyfriend ended up ordering 2 copies on Amazon on his phone, while still in the store. Just another reminder of why I never bother to shop here... read more

I love bookstores, they are my favorite and I can spend hours browsing the racks. I usually go in with a list of what I'm looking for when I come to the chain bookstores. I normally find most of what I'm looking for here but today I got skunked. I was shocked. They didn't have any book I wanted on my list of 8 books. I know I can have them order them but when I get my read on, I want them now. I don't want to wait for them to ship. Of course, I still browsed and walked out with some new authors in a variety of genres. But I was still disappointed. B&N would be even more disappointed if they knew I bought the ones I was looking for electronically and not from them. Oh, well, until my next search. read more

A great book store with a Starbucks bar inside. They have a great selection of books, magazines, games, toys both for fun and educational, along with collectibles. They staff is always nice and it's a great place to get just about any book you are looking for or to pick up a gift for the avid reader, board/card game, or collector in your life. Considering there are not many book stores because the internet has put most local and chains to rest, I have to say it is refreshing to stop in and roam the stacks looking for a gem to buy that day and take home to read. read more

This is a nice Barnes & Noble. I was most impressed by the customer service. I had several books for my kids summer reading program I needed to find. I found a customer service rep and she walked to me to find each book! That saved me a lot of time and headache! I then ordered some drinks at the cafe. My daughters didn't taste very good so they immediately apologized and made her a new one. I love when employees go out of their way to help a customer and make them feel special. That happened twice here today. This happy customer will definitely be back. read more

I love the place, I really do. It's got great customer service, everyone is always friendly and talkative, and I like the snack selections from Starbucks. That being said, I have a couple of gripes, one serious, one not so serious. Not so serious: several tables in the Starbucks are off balance and jostle back and forth when you touch them. That's bothersome when you're trying to eat, drink hot coffee (lol), or do any kind of work. It's an easy fix. Serious: in the last few weeks the WiFi has slowed down to nearly unusable. It can't load the most basic of pages without taking well over 4-5 minutes. Often much longer. This has gotten ridiculous. Previous to this, it was great. Couldn't have asked for a better connection and speed. But suddenly in the last 2-3 weeks it's gotten horrible. I eat breakfast and do some work online a few times a week from the store and this issue has already had me go to a different Starbucks because I know I can't trust the WiFi at this store anymore. I've asked about it, everyone seems to know it's extremely slow, but no one has any idea why. This needs to be fixed immediately or you're going to lose my business. read more
