At the weekend you see a lot of swiss people doing there shopping here. Cafe journal is a small bar in the main shopping street (really not big). It is more a nice coffee place where you can chill out. You can eat small stuf but it is not a restaurant. It is the most alternative bar in Waldshut :) The staff is cool and nice. But very German. They understand swiss german but not everything (for exemple: a "Stange" - not in their dictonary :) ) Off course you can read some newspaper there. As said, a coffee place to chill out.

The menu is fairly short, though: there are your standard appetizers, like empanadas (which were ok, but not great) and a small range of selected cuts - you can either opt for 200g, 300g, 400g or the whopping 500g. What really makes the estancia stand out against other competition (such as Goodman's in Zurich), though, is the price. For two appetizers, drinks, two steaks and a third entree (yes, we were hungry) we only payed around 80 Euros! So, is the 45 minute drive from Zurich worth it? Definitely. Just make sure that you have a reservation; the place is insanely popular. We went there on a Tuesday night - right when they opened at 17.30h - and they could hardly find a place for us.

Sushi was mostly hard rice with very little fish. Miso soup wasn't very good. Chinese food was all deep-fried and smothered in gooey sauces. The best food was the fresh fruit and cream puffs. Cute concept with warm dishes on top belt and cool dishes on bottom belt, but the food was not really high quality. They put ice cream on the bottom belt, and it melted after a while. Perhaps ok as "Asian exotica" suited for local tastes, but certainly not passable as decent Asian food for this Taiwanese-American girl. If you like variety and want to fill up on Western-style Asian food, then this would be a good deal for you. However, I think I expected too much in terms of quality. Will not be coming back.
