This is awesome.... Went to this place on a recommendation from a winery because they actually served their wines. But I have to say they have not disappoint. The place was packed because it was one of the few in town opened for lunch that day. The place is small and it seems like family run. One chef in the kitchen and maybe 6-7 tables altogether. Pasta dishes are absolutely delightful. The Tagliatelle al sugo di Cinghiale is my personal favorite and it makes for a very nice pairing with local Montepulciano wines. read more

We just arrived for a four night stay and this was one of our host's recommendations. We started with melon and prosciutto which was outstanding. Next was pici pasta in a tomato garlic sauce. Again- very delicious- if you love garlic. We finished with rosemary steak prepared medium rare and tasted perfect. We selected a nobile montepulciano wine which the region is known for. Beautiful setting near the highest point in Montepulciano. There is outdoor and indoor seating. Our reservations were indoor as it had been raining on and off. There are covers over the outdoor seating so that is still an option. After so much eating out, I was looking for something light. They had tomato soup which was delicious. It was definitely more chunky than what you'd find in the states. I was expecting a cup but a rather large bowl was delivered. For dinner, we split the mixed pork meat plate and I added grilled veggies. The veggies were zucchini and eggplant. I am not a huge fan of either but they were cut thin and the preparation made them an excellent choice. Our table wasn't the hugest fan of the pork plate as the meat wasn't as lean as was preferred but they loved the sausage very much. Service was good considering there were only a few servers for all tables and the place was packed. Very good experience. read more

It's located very close to Piazza Grande. This was the only restaurant in Montepulciano that was able to give us a table for 10 people. The food was excellent, but the service could have been better. Will definitely go back. read more

A cute little restaurant on the top of the hill near all the other restaurants in Montepulciano. You can pay for parking near the arch entering the square and walk up to the Duomo and restaurants in the area. It's basically the main town in Montepulciano. This will probably be one of the first restaurants you'll see past the pay for parking meter on the right. They do close between lunch and dinner for a "siesta" so try to make it before 3pm! We ordered the pici pasta cause it was a staple of this area of Italy. My friend had the pici with duck, which had a different flavor to it than some of the pasta sauces I've tasted this trip. I got the pici with Ragu. All noodles cooked perfectly and the sauces were good. No complaints. They just didn't give me a wow this is amazing factor - but I'm kind of a food snob. The mushroom pasta was really really good and it was the winner out of the 3 dishes. The tiramisu was ok - lots of cream but I like that the lady fingers on top were a little chewy to give it some substance and consistency. The ladies running this place were definitely Italians and local. It almost felt like a family run business, which we liked. They have indoor seating and a small outdoor patio. read more

Our hosts at mueble I'll Ricci recomended this little spot by the upper entrance to town. All I can say after an incredible meal is thanks and wow! They have a very nice menu but they have two all inclusive menus that are an incredible deal. Especially as the quality of the meal was superb. I had the menu del conte that for 30 euros is really enough for 2. For starters they brought out an appetizer platter. That had amongst other things 2 bruschetta one with an excellent pate, the other with tomatoes. It also had some salami, ham and cheese wrapped in prosciutto. They rehén brought out the house pasta with a tomato and garlic sauce, excellent. Finally a full plate of perfectly grilled meat. Hen you pick off the desert menu. I had the chocolate moose and it was like being in France, dark creamy and strong. You would think that's enough right? Nope, they also included a glass of contucci vino nobile (not the Rosso table wine but the nobile good stuff), a half liter of water and coffee. The service started slow as we arrived at 9 when the 7 pm sitting was winding down but was spot on afterwards. Everything was excellent. Just be sure to make a reservation! We enjoyed our dinner with great wine and delicious entrees. We ordered a sea bass, a stuffed squid and a vegetarian pasta, all were cooked to perfection. The "cherry on top" was the cantucci with vin santo for dessert! We will return! read more

Oh...my...lord...if heaven was a plate of spaghetti, then they're hiding it in this kitchen. First thing first, call ahead and make a reservation to ensure you get a seat. From about 20.00 until 22.00, it's packed inside. As Montepulciano is in the hills, the air is cooler so sitting outside isn't ideal in May. If you have to park, there is a lot immediately outside of the old gate near the Fortezzi. Try to drive further in and you'll end up in a ZTL. With that said, get ready for some amazing Tuscan food. The best thing that stuck out and me and The Wife was the pasta...I personally loved the pici all'aglione...ate the whole dish and wanted some more. But wait, there's still steak coming. I also had the steak and porcini - be ready, if you like you nest anything medium rare or higher, that's not how they cook it there. It comes out warm, red, and bloody. The best thing was that even between antipasti, first courses, second courses, dessert, wine, and water, the bill was still less than €80. Amazing. This is now a go to spot, hands down. read more

Always, always a favorite each time we return to Montepulciano! We were staying for five nights (just a week ago), and ate here two nights in a row. The four of us chose a variety of dishes over the two nights, and never were any of us disappointed. My personal favorite was the lamb chops...drool. Way on the top of the hill (intense drive up) but worth the trip. There is parking (for a fee, 1,30 per hour) at the top. The staff is friendly and the food is very good. Had the Pici al Ragu (Tuscany red sauce), cheese ravioli, and a cobb like salad. All very good. Everything is fresh and they serve a good selection of wines by the glass. Also, the restaurant across the street is very good, Ai Quattro Venti, but did not realize where it was until after lunch. No problem because this place was just as good! read more

Decided to move away from the tiramisu as our waitress suggested the apple cake for desert. Suggest reservations as we saw many folks turned away. No house wine but reasonable prices on bottles. We had one of the best and cheapest dinners here in the two weeks we were in Italy. They had multiple vegetarian options which was hard to find in Tuscany. My husband had the ravioli with butter and sage and he loved it, I had the pasta with tomato and garlic sauce and it was to die for, my husband liked it so much we ordered another serving for him. The Rosso di Montepulciano was very good. When I asked the waitress if the mousse or chocolate cake was better for desert she recommended getting the cake with some mousse on top, it was perfect. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. I haven't left a million snobby reviews with ridiculous American standards, so if you prefer reviews by people who don't have anything better to do then be highly critical then just ignore this. read more

Enjoyed it so much we are their two nights in a row. For 49 euros we each had a glass of wine and shared the pasta w shaved truffles, the grilled veg and the grilled sea bass and had tiramisu and tea for dessert. All in a small, friendly environment that felt like being part if their family. First night we loved everything but tiramisu wasn't our favorite. Second night the bruschetta and caprese were very good and porcini pasta too. Didn't love the grilled lamb which was a little tough to eat and not much meat. Going back to bostons north end is going to be very disappointing after eating here. It's delicious and great prices and so relaxed. Highly recommended. read more

Absolutely amazing! Grandma is literally cooking the food. True home-made, authentic tuscan cuisine. We had the pici with white meat sauce, lamb, carpaccio, caprese and stuffed calamary. Below average food at a tourist-only restaurant. We went here on our first night in Montepulciano on the recommendation of Yelp. Should have turned around after seeing the entire clientele was Americans, and no reservations were necessary. We appreciated the friendly hospitality and the complementary glass of prosecco, but it was all downhill from there. Both the tagliatelle with mushrooms and the pici with duck were far past al dente, with sauces comparable to those from a jar, and the lamb was cooked almost to the point of rubber. And if you're a vegetarian, you're out of luck here with regard to entrees. Wine options by the glass is limited. Prices are reasonable (7-12 for appetizers and pastas, 10-15 for entrees), but there are certainly better options available, even without a reservation. read more
