My mother and sister-in-law were able to get a table without a reservation, and we saw multiple people get turned away. We definitely lucked out, glad we did. My mother-in-law really liked it and approved it by not putting any salt on her dish, which is extremely telling. Two of my favorite things combined: food and games. I loved trying their creations and guessing what I was eating. I found their restaurant on the Michelin website, and "it's not what it seems" was so intriguing to me. The restaurant it outside of Florence city-center, so you need a taxi to get here. The taxi cost me about 20 euros. I had a reservation at 7 PM, and I was one of the first groups to be seated. I later discovered that if you're in the same room, you can hear the waiters talk about the food to another party. Get an earlier reservation to avoid the secrets being spoiled. I got the house wine, which was GREAT. It's not printed on the wine list, so you can ask for "vino della casa". I'm not a wine drinker, but I could handle this and I actually really liked it. I chose the experience with 9 items. They started us off with bread and homemade burro o'lio in a paint tube. Everything was so delicious. I don't want to spoil anything, but you can get very full off of those 9 items. Service was exceptionally amazing. Everyone was so nice. They spoke English well. I suggested we go for bistecca alla fiorentina, or Florentine style steak. This typical Tuscan offering is the region's signature dish and for good reason! We hopped on Sabino's scooter and took a gorgeous ride through Chianti to get to Da Padellina. When we pulled up, a Porsche 356 1600 Super was parked in front. Porsches are really not my thing but this vintage beauty captured my attention. Not fancy, the restaurant's history is long and shows on all the walls. Sabino and I dined upstairs overlooking rolling hills. We split a huge slab of meat (you get to choose it before they cook it) and it was carefully explained to me that the cooking method for bistecca alla fiorentina is very simple: fire, salt, pepper, olive oil. Basically it's all about the meat, which is served very rare. We also got sides of beans and potatoes and plenty of red wine. Those in search of a proper Florentine steak will surely find it here. Two words to sum up my meal at Da Padellina: Buonissimo Bistecca! Definitely one of the more memorable meals I've had in Italy.

For our first time in Florence, it was an amazing find. The food was extremely fresh and delicious. The waitstaff was also patient with us as we don't speak any Italian! I think I had the best prosciutto and barratta that I've ever eaten in my life! My husband ordered the tagliatelle with goose ragu (phenomenal) and I had the seafood pasta (very good but the tagliatelle was definitely amazing!!!). We also had the octopus starter- fabulous. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Florence that has a car!
