If Yelp would let me choose zero stars I would. This is one of the worst professional experiences I've ever had. I paid for 6 months of membership with this company as I have a home based business and was excited for guidance on how I could be more effective with my tax strategy. I was charged for a phone call that I was told was included in my membership. I explained that I was told (and have email evidence to prove it) that the call was complementary and part of what I had already paid for in my fees. Once I was charged I repeatedly asked them to reimburse me. They would only reimburse me half of the phone call fee (which by the way was 10 minutes long). Much of the information I got from otb was incorrect and misleading once I verified it with another cpa. We then experienced tax fraud and to cover my bases I emailed to make sure my files with them had been shredded as I was no longer a client. Here is the email correspondence in order. read more

If I could rate a ZERO, I would. I am a CPA, complete incompetence, no knowledge of taxes whatsoever, no customer service they don't even pretend like they CARE. DO NOT USE THIS FIRM if you want your taxes done correctly. And good luck trying to have a conversation with anyone that is competent - they will never call you back, but will most certainly send an invoice for the pleasure of terrible service. HORRIBLE FIRM. I had to file amended Federal and state returns due to, again INCOMPETENCE... then pay another tax preparer to help sort out the mess....and then on top of it get hit with state penalties and interest for a late filing...THIS FIRM HAS COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. One star is one too many. I actually don't even know where to begin with the nightmare of a company this is. Specifically, the unstable and volatile owner Courtney Epps. PLEASE - save yourself the mess and cost of dealing with them. The big promises she makes about her knowledge and experience are all hype. I used her for about 2 years and I am praying that nothing more comes back to bite me because there were so many strange issues, missing information on returns, payroll screw ups, typos, charging for services they never completed....I can't even list them all. My new bookkeeper and accountant are literally flabbergasted at their quality of work. They've never seen anything like this. And forget communicating with them...it will be nearly impossible and when you do finally get a response it's almost always unhelpful and often downright rude, especially if it's from Courtney or Toppa Epps. Crazy must run in the family. It's shocking that this business is even still afloat. T. TOTAL. TRAINWRECK. I suspected she was unstable but, against my better judgment, I made a concession. She appears well studied and knowledgeable, wrote a book, and has lots of resources online. After paying $5775 (up front) to have 2019, 2020, 2021 amended and being uprooted from QBD to QBO with hardly any support, as well as having questions dodged by transferring us to different departments, we became suspicious of OTB Tax's credibility. Our biggest mistake was not researching her business before paying the above sum because once we did, we knew our experience was a trend among her other clients. We learned, per the reviews, that losing just under $6k is still better than letting her deal with the IRS on your behalf. After a month of no solid answers, no direction, and no idea who to contact on staff at OTB, we demanded them to cease any further work on our behalf, requested a refund, and offered to pay for their time prior to the termination date. After notifying Courtney and the staff of the termination, Courtney proceeded to invoice us for 3 years of payroll amendments at $750/ each and explained that she couldn't finish the amended corporate and personal returns until I paid the invoices for payroll amendments to be completed. Keep in mind, I had demanded them stop work on our behalf and it took her a month to realize I had not been completely invoiced to perform the work. Her corporate return amendments were so expensive, I thought the payroll amendments were included. I had no idea I had not paid for all the returns, but thank God I didn't or I'd be out another $2250. I explained to Courtney I would not be paying another red cent, but she allocated our credits toward 2019s payroll amendments so she could continue working and would not be providing a refund. Even after she tried to force us to accept her work, she held our Quickbooks Online account hostage until we signed her prepared returns, which we didn't. Stay away!!! ZERO STARS After over 3 months and 4 phone calls of trying to have the initial consultation I paid for with Mrs. Epps, she ultimately dismissed me as a potential client, actually saying she "couldn't believe she'd wasted an hour of her time speaking with me". Meanwhile, I'd wasted not only the time spent waiting for her to call on all 4 occasions, since she was late to every single meeting, but also wasted the 3 months thinking our conversations would be productive, when I could have been building a relationship with another tax professional that whole time. Sadly, she was rude and dismissive on all our calls. Naturally, if I had extensive knowledge of taxes & accounting, I wouldn't be seeking to employ a professional, but she acted like I was the most ignorant person she'd ever encountered. Save your money, do not pay $100 or more to be mistreated. I highly recommend you find someone LOCAL who would appreciate the opportunity to do business with you. read more

DO NOT work with this company!! I would not even give Courtney 1 star if it was possible! I was quoted a price for both businesses and personal, payroll and a few other miscellaneous items by Courtney. I was told I had to pay up front (never signed a contract) in order for them to start my taxes. It wasn't until after I paid several thousand dollars that she came back and said I owed her another $1500 for our second business filing. We asked for an itemized statement of what she had actually completed, that she completely refused and would not file the taxes we have already paid for. She claims she made an extension for us, yet when we look on the IRS website for the 2019 transcript, nothing shows filed. Needless to say, I have sought legal council due to the fact that she is holding my taxes hostage and refuses to comply with the demand letter that the attorney sent. After looking on the labor and licensing board of SC website, I am unable to even locate this firm, or Courtney Epps herself. The extreme lack of professionalism is appalling. read more

Courtney did our taxes for 3 years (2015-18). She came off knowledgeable and caring even sharing the story of her family losing their home to the IRS as the reason she's so passionate as a CPA. She started off responsive and on top of things and after the second year, not so much. We kept receiving notices from the IRS for multiple filings she had done. We went from owing one amount to substantially more after receiving notices from the IRS that we underreported. This happened for all three years. After having someone else review our taxes, they were perplexed on where the numbers came from when reviewing the expenses we provided. They noted the missing, inaccurate, and incomplete information for every single year. In one year we were penalized because she listed our rental income for one of our properties as an expense. On the same report, she completely failed to log expenses for our other rental property. We were essentially just a number. When this info was brought to her attention, she claims that in her 17 years, she's "Done thousands of tax returns and never had one issue with a tax return I've done." No apology, no seeking to make it right. She just completely absolved herself of any oversight or wrongdoing. She even states her lack of concern for losing us as clients since she wasn't receiving all that much money from us even though we paid what she asked for. I would never do business with her again and strongly advise anyone wanting to save themselves the hassle of being under the IRS microscope from doing any business with her either. read more

Terrible tax place, terrible customer service. The owner is the worse. Had our taxes done with them for 2 yrs and they managed to file them both incorrectly. Overcharged me for tax return this year which the owner herself promised to make right. Haven't received a refund for that! She and her staff missed appointments so many times. She gave me poor excuses EVERY SINGLE time. I believe true services were not rendered. Told me they would file PPP for me and charged me and did not file and they did not refund us for that. Owner lacks customer services, professionalism and I believe experience in the realm of taxes. I wish they would allow for no stars!!! read more

I am honestly still in complete disbelief at how poorly I was treated over the last two months or so. I take some responsibility because I should have known from the very beginning. The first time Courtney called me because of multiple incidents that I felt unsupported at the least by my tax preparer, she was extremely rude, took zero accountability for any of it, including things I had proof of, like how late she was to our phone call. When I had a call scheduled and was unable to get a hold of ANYONE until over 2 hours after the call time because they "had a staff meeting run over," and I had an extremely time sensitive matter relating to the PPP loan because of a mistake that they originally made, she continued to blame me and tell me that this was my fault. The list goes on and on. She attacked my character and called me names, and I NEVER said anything like that to her. The conversation sounded like I was arguing with a child. Despite all of the bad experiences, from the beginning, I still stayed through the process and continued to pay them for assistance on my tax return, LLC, SCORP, and PPP Loan because many of my friends told me she had saved them a lot of money as a home based business. After all of this, you couldn't pay me enough to continue to work with them. I was on the phone with another staff member at one point who was literally threatening to fire another coworker while on the phone with me. She was also having someone read her email to make sure it "wasn't too mean." This is not the type of company I would ever want to work with again. Employees were constantly leaving during the process too. There were just so many red flags, and as I read more reviews on Facebook and Yelp, I know that it is clearly not just me. I am very disappointed I have wasted so much time, money, and energy dealing with this company. And now I'm going to go write 5 positive Yelp reviews for other companies I love. read more
