The Inlet Inn is located in Downtown Beaufort, right on Front Street. It is close to the shops and…read morerestaurants. The Inn offers free parking. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful during my stay. I stayed in a 2nd-floor waterfront room again, and although I didn't use the balcony as much as I had in summer, the views out the windows were still lovely, and I got to see a few sunsets. My room was large and had a king-sized bed, a couch, a table with two chairs, a good-sized flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffeemaker. A dehumidifier was in the room, but it was less humid this time of year, so it didn't need to be emptied. Shampoo, soap and lotion were provided. The products were good quality, and I remembered to bring my own conditioner, and I am not sure why it isn't provided. I was pleased that the wifi was working on this trip, as that has been an issue on each of my previous visits. The tv lineup also had more selection. They may have switched providers for more reliable service. The heater in the room kept the room hot, it got a little too hot at times and it was just set on 63 but that made the room closer to 75. The lowest the wall unit went was 58. I couldn't find a way to shut off the ceiling fan. The bathroom could have used more attention with the cleaning. The showerhead had a lot of buildup and didn't appear to have been cleaned for months; black mold on the shower tiles and the floor could use a cleaning. It could use a deep cleaning or remodel, as the toilet was outdated and used a lot of water. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 9:30. You could get tea or coffee, OJ, and a bagel or yogurt. It came fast this visit on the days I called for it. I left early on my last day, so I wasn't there for breakfast. They used to include the yogurt too. With the high room prices here, I hope the bathrooms are updated and cleaned, and that the breakfast options improve.

When walking into our 3rd floor room with a vaulted ceiling and stunning window seat, I said, "WOW,…read moreWOW!" The views, I wanted to stay forever. They have an inviting library lounge with a awe inspiring widow's walk overseeing the dock and inlet. We saw dolphins! This stunning motel style inn has doors that open to the outside. The Inn is not without faults, bathrooms need updating, the elevator is extremely slow and the abysmal continental breakfast is sad, very, very sad. Since paying nearly 300.00 off season, one would hope for a few more polished extras. A better breakfast and perhaps serving wine in their lounge during happy hour, would push this into a luxurious 5 star Inn. I would gladly pay for the extras just for the convenience. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Even though we arrived very late in the evening the innkeeper was friendly and gracious and welcomed us with lots of information and a well appointed room. We stayed in the master bedroom upstairs which features a lovely balcony with rocking chairs and a hammock! The queen sized bed was very comfortable and they were fresh flowers in the room. The bathroom was huge! We took full advantage of the boat size jetted tub. The only odd thing was taking a shower with no curtain or glass, she explained they were saving money for that very expensive feature. We had the standard breakfast that was more than enough to keep us going for a good long morning of activity. We started off with lots of fresh fruit and yogurt and granola, then ate homemade biscuits. Both mornings we had scrambled eggs and some kind of potato. One morning it was hashbrowns the next it was spicy potatoes. The first morning it was sausage and the next she served ham. Both were delicious. The inn provided us with a beach bag for our excursion containing Sunscreen, towels, and bags for collecting shells. That was a lovely touch. It sounded like she had a kayak available for guests as well. I might be wrong about that so double check. All in all a delightful stay. Just the kind of rest and relaxation we were looking for.

New Bern has become a regular favorite out of our visits to Beaufort, Edenton, Oriental and Wilmington (used to live there). All of those places are worth a visit. Don't get me wrong. We have stayed at neighboring B&Bs near The Jarvis. So far, there is no comparison. We have also stayed at the chain hotels there. If you go to New Bern, The Jarvis is a place you should consider first. You'll get extremely personalized service from Ian, the innkeeper. He slightly reprimanded me for fetching my own coffee on our last morning there. The Jarvis is a destination venue for wedding parties. We expected the sleeping hours might get a little loud and we were prepared for it. However, it was remarkably quiet in the wee hours and the bed may be the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We both came home well rested. I won't go into the cool amenities, but you need to check out 'The Cellar Door' in the basement. We spent a couple of fun hours there during the rain storm that hit while we were there. Highly recommended! We will definitely return.

And yet, of all the places I have been, few can match the charm and service of this wonderful couple and this establishment. "Charming coastal" is indeed accurate as another reviewer noted, but so is kind and engaging. At least, that is how I found the host Kim, who is the hostess during your stay. The rooms are modest in size but well appointed and comfy with a wonderful balcony to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The highlight of each morning was the breakfast together. The breakfast is served at 9 sharp and is served with the other guests. It makes for not only a delicious breakfast, but Kim uses it as an opportunity to help direct, guide, and suggest places nearby that meet your interests. This is great as it means you get insider tips and ways to optimize your stay by taking the guesswork out--particularly when you have a small window for activities (we were only there for a few days). In the evenings, Kim hosts a happy hour which includes helping guests secure reservations and dinner plans settled before you go. This is not just a recommendation by Kim--she actively calls and secures the spots and confirms them with you. True concierge service! Setting aside the wonderful host and the rooms, the location is superb. We were there over the weekend, and there is a delightful Saturday market literally ACROSS the street filled with vendors of all varieties. Warming: it is easy to spend. ;) The entirety of the downtown is merely a block away with shops, restaurants, and bars galore along with the cruises, sports fishing, and recreation just a short walk down the road. Bottom line: I adored this place and have already recommended it to friends and family here in Durham (where we live) and beyond. If you can swing it (it is worth every penny) and want to give yourself or your partner a weekend to remember, I cannot more strongly recommend the Inn on Turner.
